I was so pumped for this book The first part of the book was like mush I couldn’t understand what was going on who was who I liked when the treats and deals were made Liked the island adventures but it coulda been turned into more The 7th race of dragons pissed me off like all this for nothing Then It picked up again as it got to the battles and war But the switching perspectives felt jarring And the ending came outta no where and left me with so many questions Not nearly as good of a book as the others but my biggest complaint is I feel no progress overall was made towards the ending of the war and bring to light the secrets of the world and in fact many more things were added that now I need answers too

Season 3 has also released now so go and watch it

I find the extensive sexual scenes all the way through the book so boring by the end, it seems so unnecessary, and more like a crotch book. That is disappointing, because I love then characters so much!!

Almost DNF this series because of the gaping plot holes, holes in logic, contradictions to its own lore and lack of explanation towards said lore. It got to a point where it felt lazily written. Just finished the book and the ending felt rushed in I can't say that I'm surprised. I bet there will be some part two split off like a Harry Potter or hunger Games movie to get more money. I tried to get with the hype and genuinely get into it but I just feel like other authors do this so much better. My intelligence as a reader felt insulted off and on and in my humble opinion violet soaringale is one of the worst characters and protagonist to ever lead a book. Honorable mention - Dain wasn't that bad 😂

I really enjoyed the books and thought the TV series was pretty good, but there was one main flaw to the latter: there was no on-screen chemistry between Pip and Ravi.

dedication to a temple - do you remember Samuel from the Bible? -this is when parent give up their right over their child to make it a temple servant, it can be done temporalily - e.g. for education - or for the whole life - this is common in cultures where the parental power over a child is full authority - which means it is/was quite common in most world cultures worldwide beyond the modern ones - see also e.g. the Vestal virgins

@heididischler I wanted your suggestion regarding gradest game book. I have read the brothers hawthornes and the games untold, but I am not sure that if I ahould read grandest game. I really do want to read the next part which would come by july maybe with a story and games regarding their grandmother alice. But in order to this book do I really need to read grandest games, is it worth it because as you said I also didnot enjoy the brothers hawthorne and games untold.

Crazy, I disagree with many things. It was slow-paced in the beginning - but I believe this was really important to show the brainwashing Bel experienced throughout her whole life. It also made it possible for character growth of Bel to seem more natural (first dad as highest priority, then discovering more and more family secrets, leading to her change). Bel acting so cruel towards Rachel also makes a llot of sense - for Bel, this was a strange woman. At the same time, she knew, she was lying about where she had been and did not react to Bels worries when her Dad disappeared, the most important person for her at that time. I liked Ash - I found it kinda refreshing that the romance was not that important - it was a book about family. I felt like Ash and Bel not getting together showed that Bel needed someone to trust in and count on at this moment in time, which led to her developing some superficial romantic feelings. I found that realistic. The way they handled things in the end were very cruel ( but this was also a problem in As good as dead, I did not like the ending of that either) and some very unlogical. I personally never found cover up plans good or reasonable

This was genuinely one of the worst books I’ve ever read. I’m genuinely upset bc I wanted to love it after loving the Good Girl’s Guide series :(

the brothers hawthorne was hard to get through but it’s SO necessary for the series

SPOILERS I just finished the book and I was so confused when savannah said that Avery killed her dad because I thought it was eve's half sister mellie who was also a servant who shot him in the hawthorne legacy . Someone explain please...

I loved this book! 5/5. I loved Brothers Hawthorne but I disliked the lack of Avery and Jameson romance. They definitely fixed that. I really like the new perspectives but I also love the ogs being in it. Like they feel complete and older now 😭 omg I love it. And tell me why I was actually scared in this book 😭 the ships were actually amazing 😭 the tension. But Sav better now touch our girl!

Adaptations are alwaysss bad, but I was still disappointed watching the series right after reading the book. You’re absolutely right, you highlighted the differences well and they really white washed Andie’s character. She was extremely evil in the book. Nat and one of her other characters were merged and she leaked the nudes to bully her cuz she was jealous of her. Nat’s brother was a lot more grey in the books. Max got arrested in the book, and they discounted PiP’s intelligence a lot. Like with the printer at Naomi’s place, she had thought of that earlier and ensured it tracks a history of what gets printed, which comes back later in the series. Naomi liked Sal, and she didn’t just tell PiP that he had an alibi, Pip did the digging. She stalked and found out that Max had another secret Instagram ID instead of Naomi just giving her the deets. PiP was a lot more smart in the book. She texts Andie’s friend pretending to be the other friend and gets the details about the Secret Older guy, whereas Ravi does that in the series ( That’s not too bad, it gave Ravi a little more essence). How PiP follows Howie, how Ravi tracks her phone to get to her in the climax is because she gets him to do it when she intentionally leaves it in Elliot’s car was a lot more cohesive than how it’s portrayed in the series that Cara just does it all the time. That Stanley, ( Journalist) was no where to be seen in the series.These were a few more differences that I noticed other than the ones you mentioned. For me, the series was definitely underwhelming as compared to the book but that’s almost always the case with adaptations.

Ughh Losing Hope I would put at #1. I was sobbing the first few pages because of already knowing the lore but It truly was an amazing peice. With that being said I understand 100% why you rated it what you did there was no surprises really besides the letter from Less but I have developed such an attachment to Sky and Holder I can't get myself to read Finding Cinderella I feel like I will be bored.

Hey! I just finished games untold and i conpletely agree with ur choices. The first story wasnt rlly interesting. I LOVED THE SAME BACKWARDS AS FORWARD. It was literally my fav out of all the books.

As someone who watched the show first and read the book after, I can totally see the differences. The pacing was really weird at points, going to fast or to slow or skiping things or characters. But honestly the show was pretty cool for me as a casual viewer, while the book being a bigger world with so much more stuff happening

I do not want Lyra to win, I want Rohan to win! He is the only one who would lose their family if he doesn't become the Proprietor. I think the duchess is plotting something on the island, but I think the collective Hawthornes will rally around him recognizing like for like. All the other whys are easily solved/explained away/fixed.

Trying to avoid spoilers: It was a good book. But the ending was meh, imho (dead should stay dead, you know, writing 101). Then, the next book subverts the romance expectations 110% and is super toxic. The writing and general plot is pretty good, though. Just my opinion!!!

How could you feel for Arthur?!? His plan was to get the info from Red and then have her killed. He also got the two old people killed, Maddie shot, and killed Maddie’s mom.

The show was Sooo different 🥲 I read the book after hearing that its going to adapted in a show and I was thinking of reading the book from a long time anyway and I liked the books (havet read the kas one yet) but the show was... like it didn't include many good scenes and merged many characters. Moreover the casting (I was satisfied with Pip's one tho she was perfect) Maybe due to the time limit and low budget idk but the show was just not it. Omg yes about the lack of plot (for book 2)…..I DNF’d it in April of 2023 and I just picked it up again to try to read it and, in every other chapter…..I’m like what am I reading. I also did not like Lina….I didn’t like Lina or Nash when they were mentioned in the first book. I did end up liking Nash in the second book…..I heard the third one is the best so I’m pushing through the second book.
