How to Tig Weld Aluminum for beginners!
In this video i go into detail on how i cut, clean and weld aluminum. I use 5052 1/4” material and weld it with 5356 1/8” filler. I show my complete set up and exactly how i set up the machine. I hope this video helps someone!

Lovely weld :) it surprised me - that seems like quite high amperage especially for an outside corner and pre heat. Did you use all 275 amps?
@ no I normally set the machine high and work the pedal i need to explain that better in my next video thank you for pointing that out ill place the camera on the amps on the machine
@ yeah that will be cool to see :) cheers!
Sorry about the double post but how does the ck 20 hold up to the higher amps. I love mine but my everlast is a earlier model of the 250 ex
@@ajsironworks3937 i had a 250ex and the torch is doing good honestly
@ how long did it last? How well did you like it
@ its fine ive only had one go. I really like it
New to the channel new to tig welding aluminum for about 3 months. Thanks I wanna try the balled tungsten
Good video I started using the layzr tungsten from Ck worldwide this year and like it I’m trying it for dc welding now too just ordered a pack of 3/32 haven’t tried it yet on dc but I like it on ac my favorite was blue 2% lanthinated for a all around now I kinda think the layzr holds a better tip on higher heat not sure yet for dc good video 👍
Run a second tank of Helium ,!! That shit only looks like 1/4" plt.
@@normpage4604 i have helium
@Precisiontigwelding then use it... I always kept my separate bottle of helium.. with a y splitter so I could regulate how much helium I'm burning.. depending on the thickness and joint of the material.. I welded at two shops. Where I welded aluminum all day... Will the dynasty 700.. TIG welded up to 1 in plate aluminum with it..
@ i do use it. Have have it set up the same way im not sure what your trying to say sorry?
@Precisiontigwelding .. I guess I'm trying to say why did you anneal it before you welded it , !!?
@ i just like to put a little heat in it thats all. I feel it helps keep porosity out
Interesting video! I wonder what pressure the cube would fail, a long air hose with the valve on the other end would make for an interesting test.
@@adambergendorff2702 haha i thought the same i actually took it to 130 And it did nothing. Maybe ill hook my pressure washer to it and do a video
That’s the second piece you weld like that, makes me wonder what the overall piece is going to be once it’s all welded together.
Beautiful work!
I got free tips too, a shade 13 lense ziptied to the back of your phone makes for some awesome arc shots.
Great video. Can you say again what blade you use on your bandsaw. And would just a regular 9” table top saw work well?
@@jeffcrane4537 6 tpi
I learn something every time I watch one of your vids. For anyone without a bandsaw... a table saw cuts aluminum like butter, if you use a carbide blade set at full extension, so it cuts down, as much as possible. This method produces loads of tiny, sharp splinters, so be sure to use appropriate masks, etc.
Where can I get that arm rest at that's sweet to keep steady
@@marshallmazzarelli8797 i built that

I’m about 15 hrs into tig practice in the evenings,,, finally getting some clean non porosity dimes on steel. I tried aluminum for 2 nights and about 10 pieces of tungsten with zero success then I figured out the scrap 1/8th alum I got a ton of was t6 7075 😂 apparently hard to weld I also realized as a beginner to just use new/as clean as possible metal. Grinding scrap hot rolled stuff into usable coupons was half my battle of porosity. Thanks for the vids! I’ll re watch all the alum stuff when I get some material to try on.
the froniius tig has a feature that balls it for you automatic
Always wanted to try one of those Fronius machines… can’t find one or a dealer anywhere near me.
@trevorjarvis3050 the main headqaurters is in indiana. theres plenty of places across the country selling the machines
Nice .... Looks like you're fighting heat soak at the end there..... You're starting to struggle to keep up with the filler rod deposition rate it looks like. I might be wrong. I know when I TIG aluminum I use more pulse to freeze the puddle and try to limit heat soak HAZ issues. Rad video
Are you able to do a video on how to do lap and corner welds? I can’t get a good pool started to save my life, no problem running lines on flat ally but when it comes to joins I’ve got better chance of winning the lottery 😂😂😂😂😂
@@jasonparkerghosthead sure ill try to do that tomorrow or Monday. Do u want a video like the short i just posted?
@ I like the videos so I can save and rewatch them thanks, also just got a track style amp control too, plus I managed to find a guy who makes the pressure amp control button so will do a video on that when it gets here too
@ thats what i use at work on pipe! You will like that and it will help you a ton
Awesome tips. So many questions, for example, how do you decide what frequency to use on material, how do you decide what cleaning action to run at? Do those settings correspond to thickness of material? Oh and how do you deal with big gaps? You had a gap on one side but you didn’t really explain how you dealt with that. Do you just run it as usual or manipulate the torch to help fill in the gap? Once again, thanks for the tips really appreciated. Just don’t start pushing your special tig finger or panhandling viewers for tig settings….lmao 😂
@@xmrprofessorx499 lol 😂
Awesome video.... productions like this push me more and more to dig into Tig.
That's the spirit!
Good video! Is 4" 1/8 what you recommend for practicing? I just got the 325x w/a water cooler and 20 torch last month on their black Friday special
Yeah 1/8th is a great size to practice on!
Really good tips! Just started Tig in March so this content is gold 👌
So glade it helped you
GRAN VIDEO¡¡ SALUDOS DESDE MEXICO
Thanks man, appreciate it.
kinda pointless but good video!
"pointless" - I see what you did there 😊
@@MidEngineering FINALLY someone who gets that joke.
Nice tips. But its not really necessary to ball the tungsten on an inverter machine ive herd and found myself. On a dynasty I just sharpen a 30° point then lightly blunt the end. Works fantastic for me. It actually does form a micro ball on the end but it stays pointy sharp.
Same with me even on a transformer I sharpen it to a point and let it ball itself if it does. That’s just preference I know people that ball it and don’t ball it and have great results both ways 👍
What is the purpose of balling the tungsten?
@@gsxrdrama9025 for welding aluminum the tungsten holds up better.
its not necessary, it goes back to the day of welding in WW2. some prefer it, some hate it. its pointless if you have a good welder that was made in the last 70 years

I have to tap the trigger quickly 😂

Been thinking of getting one of these machines. I have a smaller inverter machine from another manufacturer but it has no guts. It has trouble welding larger pieces of 1/8 thick aluminum. Leaning more towards the 325x instead of their 225 to cover the thicker stuff. What are your thoughts on how these handle the thicker stuff?
