The Real Mean Streets of Little Italy
The Last Days of Little Italy: An Original Documentary Series.
Little Italy, a historic haven for immigrant families from the old country, was once threatened by an ever-expanding Chinatown. But now the fatal blow is being delivered by the gentrifiers. Corporations, yuppies, and chain stores all moved in. How did Little Italy transform itself from a working class neighborhood of tenement buildings to the third most expensive zip code in the United States?
Part funny, part sad, the series explores the impact gentrification is having on Little Italy's long-term residents. The striking imagery captures the neighborhood before it is completely erased by sterile trendy stores and upper middle class sameness.
Will New York City lose another cultural touchstone to the forces of greed?
A Nolita Films Production
Written and Directed by Paul Stone
Produced by Claudia Montano
Cinematography & Editing by Paul Stone
Shot in New York City, Rome, Amalfi Coast & Puglia, Italy.

Woke college students pushing out blue collar people out of their homes. CNN keeps saying its Trump and MAGA
Never understood people who thought New York is great. I moved to Texas and have my own land and plenty of space and fresh air.
See you next Sunday! San Genaro Festa! My wife and I are also Italian American and proud of it 🇺🇸🇮🇹
The European character of many American cities is rapidly disappearing.
It will be either Little Ramallah or Little Caracas in a decade or two.
Forlinis was one of the best restaurants in the city. Used to go there quite a bit. It was sad that it's gone.
I was one of those guests Abdu Malahi saved that morning. There are no words to express the gratitude I have for this man. I thank his soul for this sacrifice, yet in many ways I just don't feel worthy. I will forever live with the pain of knowing someone died - this man, Abdu Ali Malahi - saving my life.
I think living your life is a great way to honor the one who saved you. I hope you found a way to manage this pain. You are worthy, you matter and your life matters.

This is sad. The same thing happened in East New York. Everyone moved but thankfully, many of us stay in touch on Facebook. It's not the same. The saddest part? Our beautiful church, Out Lady of Loretto, the first church built by Italian Americans, was torn down with with approval of the Diocese. One very sad day.

Paying $85.25 per month for an apartment in Manhattan doesn’t pay the water bill, much less the heating bill. This guys air of entitlement is nauseating.
I remember those beutiful smells, all home made.
Keep voting democrat for skyrocketing taxes, regulations and inflation that CRUSH the middle class. It's almost like it's a plan. I suppose that's another conspiracy theory though, right?

I lived on Elizabeth Street too.
I lived 15 years at 385 Broome Street ( with the Little Italy sign under my window)! The best period of my life! Thanks to all the “indigenous people” I have met on the streets of the only and unique Little Italy in the world! I miss it!!!!!
He mentioned his crew got theirs asses kicked on the west side. Likely by the Irish gangs in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. The Irish mob was known as the Westies back then (from the West side of Manhattan). Sad that the Italian and Irish enclaves are disappearing.

Salud, My Friend , I send you a big hug. I truly understand your frustration. I used to live in Pelham Bay, Bronx NY, in a "Pre-War" building. Slowly, the elderly passed on and a new younger, professional tenants moved in. No MANNERS!!! They don't even look at you. Nevermind, say Good morning, Our parents taught us to say hello to everyone. You went in the store, you said hello, good morning, whatever! If not, a slap on the shoulder; HEY, WHERE'S YOUR MANNERS!!!! I MISS THOSE DAYS TOO MY FRIEND. God's Blessings to you. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🗽🗽🗽🗽🥰😢😍😲
