Rwanda in '94 witnessed one ( if not the most!!) of the most brutal and savage genocides of the 20th century. I don't think there was another mass murder of innocent human beings that may've surpassed this genocide in the unimmaginable, just truly unbelievable proportions of its monstrosity and aberration. I mean any atrocity of this is itself cruel and brutal, but...you know...to butcher +800,000 innocent people with tools as primitive as machetes, hammers, knives, etc...is simply...monstruos OMG!! More than 26 yrs after this tragedy ended, I still cannot come even one bit close to understand how a tragedy of such proportions came to take place; and the world, especially the U.S. govt and the European countries didn't lift a damn finger to help those poor people!! Not NATO, not the Brits, Germany I mean NO ONE cared about what was happening in that country or its people for that matter!! May all the victims rest in peace and may all the killers rot in hell.
A few years ago I immerged myself in these events after watching this film. Books, documentaries, testimonies. This genocide was the worst possible living nightmare imaginable. Words cant describe. We use words like horror pain and cruelty far to often for them to bring a sufficiant impact when describing these events. I couldnt understand why no one sent troops. Why the UN didnt move. I went into a depression partly because of this story and only managed to shake of the guilt by telling myself I was just a kid when all this happened... and now I'm a grown up and Gaza and Sudan is happening and no one will move a finger once again. I'm so sorry Rwanda. The world has let you down in your greatest hour of need. Some things can simply be stopped with a phone call, but even this didnt happened. The world didnt listen, didnt look. Rwanda is still at war as we speak... May 2024.
@@zachary8491 The UN did sent troops, they just didn't sent those soldiers to protect/save the Rwandan people. The UN had hundreds of Belgian, French, Italian, German, and other UN troops on the ground there already in '94, but at the end of the day all those troops were used for was only to rescue and evacuate all fellow foreigners/expatriots out of the country. Allow me to put in far more easier and simple words: at the end of the day, when all this horrendous orgy of unimmaginable violence finally exploded, only thing those foreign soldiers did was rescuing all foreign white people on Rwandan soil, put them on choppers and flew them away from to safety. While everyone who was Rwandan, Hutu or Tutsi or Twa, simply didn't matter to them...all innocent Rwandans were abandoned to the mercy of their killers. Now the western powers and UN used a whole 'arsenal' of excuses to try anwer the "Why didn't you do something to stop the genocide"?: for the UN Belgians, French, Germans, etc. It was "centuries of old tribal/inter-ethnic warfare, old resentments and accumulated hatreds between Hutus and Tutsis, etc." For the Americans, getting involved in the then ongoing Rwandan crisis and /or doing anything to stop the genocide that was taking place there at that time just 'didn't seem' like a "reasonable, justified" idea to them prinarily because of the bad precedent US had in Africa. The US had sent US Army Marine troops to a special mission in Somalia back in 1993 (9 months before genocide in Rwanda). It ended up in total failure, tragedy and one big scandal for the US government, almost all American soldiers on board of a Blackhawk army helicopter that was shot down by Somalian insurgents were killed and their dead bodies were brutally mutilated and gruesomely dragged through the streets of Mogadishu. So as you could now immagine the US had zero interest in intervening in the Rwandan Genocide in 1994, specially after the events of the year before in Somalia.
