Hey guys & WELCOME to Our Humble Abode! We'll be spending time in the kitchen and outside! Let's go!
Homemade Laundry Soap
It has been a while since I've posted, but life comes at ya hard sometimes. I'm happy to be back with you! I ran smooth out of laundry soap, so I had to make more. We have sensitive skin, so I use all natural ingredients. It makes so much and uses so little, so it goes a long, long way! For our family of two, it lasts about 1.5 years. See the breakdown in cost below! Y'all go make you some!
#ourhumbleabode #homemadelaundrysoap #diylaundrysoap #laundrydetergent #diy #prep #homestead #allnatural #yallgomakeyousome
Homemade Laundry Soap
3 bars Dr Bronner's Pure-Castille soap, grated (use any scent you'd like) $15.00 (I buy a pack of 6 for $30)
4 lb box Borax
$5.08 (I buy 4 boxes on Subscribe & Save @$20.30)
3 lb box Arm & Hammer Super Soda
$4.05 (Subscribe & Save)
3.5 lb bag Baking Soda (They apparently quit making this recently. I find 3lb & 4lb bags. So a 4lb bag is $2.98 at Walmart. Just don't use quite all of it.)
~$2.50
Follow the instructions in the video.
So, I spend ~$26.23 to make this which lasts about 1.5 years.

Peach Preserves
มุมมอง 101ปีที่แล้ว
Peaches are some of my favorite fruit. I have a couple of trees, but never have any luck growing healthy peaches. The bugs always get them, and I grow everything organically and haven't found anything to protect them safely. I found an orchard in Oklahoma that grows the most delicious peaches and was able to get some from the Happy Heart Homestead this year. We love to make peach cobbler, pie, ...

Vacuum Sealing Dried Goods

Did you know that there are bugs in your dried goods that make their way from the store and processing plant? Those bugs can live a long time and will jump from one box to another in your pantry. Take those dried items out and vacuum seal them to keep them fresher and bug free! Check out the link below for the vacuum sealer I found that is perfect for mason jars. Canning Squash to Fry

We love fried squash more than any other way, so here is a great way to have shelf-stable squash that doesn't get mushy. If you are going to make creamed squash or squash casserole, you can still can your squash the old fashioned way. I still do that, too! Chile Relleno Casserole

My granny didn't make many casseroles, but this was one of them. Cheatin' Chile Relleno... it can be done, start to finish, in about 30 minutes. Serve it up with some rice & beans and add some sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. I have never made it as a breakfast casserole, but I think it would taste amazing with breakfast sausage, too! I just might try that next time. :-) Y'all go make you some...
Hi Humble, great recipe idea and thank you fir the vudeo n ingredients measurements!!😊
My pleasure 😊
The other recipes, you had to add the dish detergent separate and measure the powder out I like this way better.
Thank you so much for this recipe!!! They got rid of the Casa ole in my area 🥲
Same in my area. I miss it so much!
You didn’t put a few holes in the bottom? You don’t precook this crust? Or do you? Thank you for sharing
You would treat this just like you would a ready made pie crust from the store. Help this helps!
the easiest one so far!!!
What about dishwasher salt do u use it?
What exactly are you referring to? 🤔
Looks yummy
What about when making pecan pie should I pre bake it a little to set the dough before pouring in the filling?
No, you would just pour into the raw crust as usual. 😊
Just left mine to set. I bought 2 of the molds that you used and have so much extra! I hope I did it right. Wonder how I can repurpose the extra.
Did you pack it down really well? How did it turn out?
Thank you
You're welcome
About how long after turning the burner off should the jars be removed from the water? Thanks for this video!!
I usually give it about 10 minutes.
Hi friend! Thank you for making this video. I am brand new to canning and I'm so grateful for the way you explain what you're doing and the measurements of what you use. So far, you've helped me make 2 batches of peach scrap jelly that turned out beautifully. I'm canning my third and final batch right now; I only had 2 cups of peach juice left so I used 2 cups of apple juice to make an apple/peach jelly. It's a bit of an experiment, I guess. Thanks again!❤
Glad it was helpful! Enjoy!
Can u use this recipe for any vegetable ?
I really don't know! I have only used it on squash!
I sure have missed you. Congrats on the new grandbaby🎉. I bet having your grandchildren with you was absolutely fantastic. So sorry for your loss. I will keep you in my prayers.🙏. Thanks for the video and hope you will be back on soon.
Thank you so much! A week after this video, one of our sweet dogs collapsed. She was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma, so my days are filled with caring for her right now. Cooking meals and prepping for the week...multiple medications...and just trying to spend quality time with her. I really appreciate your continued kindness and prayers! We really need them right now. "This too shall pass." ❤️
This is soo good keep going!!
I watched your video on peach scrap jelly, which was very informative, my only question is how many peaches did you use to get all the scrapes you had to make what you had. Thank you
I had purchased a 1/2 bushel, and this was nearly all of them. 😊
Hi there neighbor! Thanks for the encouraging message! God bless! And "let's keep on canning."
This is awesome! Does it take out stains and strong odors?
It does very well on my husband's uniforms. I do add an extra TBSP for that load. He works in the tire industry so he gets mechanic/grease stains on them and they smell from that and sweat. Shooey! They come out beautifully!
Since this is water bathed VS pressure canned, does it last just a few months? Most people just need it to last over the winter, so this might be an easier & more efficient method.
I honestly don't know! Like you said, it only lasts a few short months in our home. 😁
Can you use olive oil???
I have never tried it, but with it not tolerating heat as well, I don't know. Maybe I should do an experiment! 😁
August 26, 2023. Hello there dear neighbor! This is the second time watching your helpful video. It was very helpful. I only had 5 peaches and wanted to make both jam and try making jelly (first time on the jelly), instead of wasting the skins and seeds. You made this adventure seem do-able, so I used your helpful information for the jelly and another TH-camr who was making preserves and jelly! My jelly and jam came out great! Thank you so much again. I am subscribing. See you on the next adventure. God bless!
I'm so happy! I love using the scraps to make jellies. I made Purple Hull Pea Shell jelly last year and it became one of my favorites. Apple scrap jelly is so good too! I am going to make some of that soon! Enjoy that peach jelly! :-)
Thank you!😊Regina
You are so welcome
You can use melted butter in place of oil for a much better flavored crust ! ❤
I will have to give that a try next time! Thank you!
Our mom used to make all kinds of jelly jams and veggies canned. Myself want to try my hand at canning some jam after watching you !!! Thank you !!
Hope you enjoy!
Love your Chanel, thank you for the recipe can you give us the link for the mold I think is the perfect size
Thank you! Here is the link to the molds. a.co/d/dHoRyDl I need to make more myself! :-)
I have always heard you have to pressure canned squash/zucchini Bc of the low acidity?? Is that why you use vinegar? I am not very confident with my pressure canner yet so I was looking for an alternative. TFS!
That is correct. You must increase the acidity with vinegar, lemon juice or citric acid. Vinegar works great in this one!
Love the video.. im confused.....im kinda new to canning... (But was raised around it) i didn't think you could water bath squash or zucchini.. soooo i want to try this... I guess my fear is botulism!?? Dont laugh... im also gonna dehydrate some. But... This looks amazing ... And i think im shocked at the cook time and the low amount of salt and vinegar... can we add more to be safer ?? Have you had any issues ever with this recipe? Im biting my nails here but.... I wanna preserve all my squash..i have alot .. ❤ great work..u make things simple!!?! Im just a worrier ...haha
I hear ya! I am using a tried recipe and have never had a problem with it. We're still here! LOL
Great video! I love my electric canners. Yes, I quickly ordered the second one also once I saw how much easier it was to use than the stovetop version. I recently canned some pork butt and used a jar to make some Mexican style meat. It was SO good and quick to get a meal ready to eat in just a few minutes.
We just made pulled pork bbq sandwiches last night for dinner! My husband says they are better than any restaurant, because there isn't a ton of fat in it. I trim as much off as I can. I bet Mexican street tacos would be amazing, as well!
I usually roast my squash, would this canning recipe be good for roasting too? I have an abundance of squash coming from my garden right now, so would love to can a bunch up for later!
Definitely! I roast mine, too!
Which liqueur did you like best?
Surprisingly, I liked the Vodka the best! It didn't take as long to get the Vanilla Extract flavor that I'm used to. :-)
Yum! I love peaches.
NICE & EASY ONE...😊👍
Thank you!
Is it possible to electric pressure can the squash recipe and still get squash that is firm enough to fry when jar is opened? If this is pressure can able, how long should I process?
I haven't tried it, but I really think pressure canning would cook them to mush. 😔 Let me know if you try it!
Perfect 👍🏽
Thanks 👍
If I’m useing the crust for pumpkin pie do I need to bake the crust first in oven and poke holes into the crust ??
No, you would cook in the raw crust. Baking a pie crust with holes poked in the bottom is for pudding pie filling. 🙂
It works But what about rinse aid
I just use straight vinegar in mine. I have a bottle like you use for oils. It is super easy to pour. 🙂
Great video. Love your voice or accent. I saw a video of a man doing this same thing. Is this enough vinegar to preserve it? I thought squash had to be water bath for hours.
Haha! I get that a lot. My mouse voice couple with my southern accent. 🤦🏻♀️ I got this recipe from a tried and true site that I trust. Multiple people have had great success with it. 🙂
How much water, vinegar and sugar did you use?
8 cups water, 1/2 apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp canning salt
How do you fry this?
I did a video on this here...th-cam.com/video/Xh8w323UFrk/w-d-xo.html
How do you make creamed squash? I've never had it before. I like zucchini any way you can think of to fix it. My favorite way is grilled. Stuffed is great, too.
If it's fresh, I cube it and boil with some chopped onion until tender. Drain and put back in the skillet or pot. Add some butter, salt, pepper, & garlic powder to taste. Simmer to cook out some of the juices. Mash it up with a fork and enjoy!
Sprinkle some sliced green onions on top of the beans and cheese and I'll be over for supper. Girl, when you started making this casserole, I thought no, not for me. Then the more you added the better it became. Could you freeze the other half of the leftover ingredients for another time? I don't know if cheese whiz can be frozen. Anyway, this is on my menu for this coming week.❤ 👍
🤣🤣
I like your water bath canner with the clear lid. Your squash looks great. I've got to try this. ❤
Let me know how you like it!
❤ Congratulations on the eletric canner!
Thank you! I love it so much, I have a second one on order! LOL
@@OurHumbleAbodeOKC Way to go girl. It must really make a difference in canning.
You have no idea! I can set it and leave it. I use to set my bar stool in front of my canner and have to adjust the temp constantly. It's a game changer!
This is for your Miss Janet. Davis.
I want to thankyou for your perfect instructions! This is exactly what I want to show my daughter as you explain everything that I wanted her to here.
I really like your crust recipe and would like to try it out. Can you please let me know if I have to bake it or put in the fridge. Thank You kindly
It depends...You can make them and store in the freezer or refrigerator like and premade pie crust you get at the store. I hope that answers your question?
Your guinea's bring back so many wonderful memories of my childhood. They were our watch birds. Our dogs didn't guard anything, lol. If anything moved outside they would sound off. They also ate ticks and other insects. Redbuds are one of my favorite spring blooming understory trees and their heart shaped leaves always make me smile. Their blossoms are long gone now in Southern Tennessee, but you can bet I'll be making me some jelly next year. 😊
Yesss, we only have our guinea for those same reasons! LOL
Fab video!! I've made yogurt on the stove top before, but am so looking forward to trying it in my Quick Cooker. I know it'll be delicious!! ❤
Hope you enjoy it!
❤ I always wanted to learn how to make this. Thanks.
Hope you enjoy!!!
