    Hi Steve, very good review. We have been toying with the idea of getting something similar for use on the boat. We have solar and the engine ensures the batteries remain charged when running. However, we spend more time moored than cruising, quite often in the middle of nowhere for two or three days, so something like this may give us the backup we need. The 300 we bought following you review serves us well but it's time for something with more oomph! Take care and stay safe.

    Interesting bit of kit . Its quite humorous that they just copied the styling of the far better Anker equivalent . I use the larger Anker 767 for exactly the same thing , giving me silent 240v power to motorhome when off grid . It's a game changer . I still have the generator in winter which will charge the Anker in 90 mins to full and then its ready for two days of powering the motorhome cleanly and silently . For summer I have a portable Renergy 250 watt solar panel kit giving unlimited charging power to the Anker as long as the sun is shining !!

    I love your channel. I think its really useful for people like me who are planning to live in a MH in the future. I feel like you discuss the real life issues (of finding good parkups etc) without adding in any drama or BS, and without a personal agenda. I live on a narrowboat, which is great for me at the moment. But in a couple of years I want to try MH living and do some European travel. So my interest comes from the viewpoint of a future vanlifer. When thinking about the best size of MH for me personally, I've always known it would be a compromise, and this video made me rethink it. I'm just into my 60s, so I'm still able to get around on an ebike - so that's my short distance travel method. I already know from my four years living on the boat that an ebike works really well to reach local shops and pubs etc, and for generally nosing around in a new town. And that means for me, no tow car is needed. So I wanted to ask - have you given much thought to using ebikes for short journeys, instead of the car? In winter you do have to wrap up, and when it rains heavily you'll usually stay off the bike- but ebikes are much, much cheaper to maintain than a car - well they are free, in fact. In summer the solar recharges the bike battery no problem, and even in winter they dont take much charge from the main batteries. Plus there are some health benefits from using them. The other big question that you made me reconsider is the ideal MH size, and I can only guess because I haven't tried it out for real. For me, I feel like a smaller vehicle is generally better (and easier to find parkups for). BUT with the caveat that you need to be comfortable. After all, its your home. So my cunning plan is to rent a small storage unit for most of my tools, plus infrequently used items, and also for seasonal stuff (e.g. things only needed during winter, etc) - and that way I will keep only the essentials for the next few months in the van. It does mean paying for a small storage space, but it could mean a shorter, lighter vehicle (less than 7m) and maybe lower fuel bills? Plus a 7m MH (or less) can get into towns and car parks easier anyway, as well as being easier to find parkups for. I wonder if the really key question is this- what kind of living space do we need to feel comfortable, and not too cramped? That tells you what size MH you need, and from that you can then decide whether you have to tow a car, or if you can use ebikes for local transport- based on the MH size. Sorry about the long essay- its something that I've given a lot of thought to, in the hope that I make the right decision on MH size.

      @@theamateurboater5892 Hi I think you are spot on with your plans, we are looking into storage at the moment, we went big as there is 3 of us with the dog, but for park ups a bit smaller would be the way I would go if it were just me, I agree with you that e-bike would be better but our tow car acts like a trailer for us at the moment, we are carrying around way to much stuff we hardly use, if we can be of any help in the future with your plans let us know and thanks for your kind words and enjoy your weekend, safe travels 🙏👊👍🚌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

      @@wanderingbychoice , thanks very much for your reply, thats really interesting. I dont want to pester you with endless questions (and I do have loads), so dont feel obliged to reply to this or any other post, unless/until you're in the mood and you have a bit of time. I certainly dont want to keep you tied to the keyboard! But my biggest single fear about MH living is that more and more local councils seem to be implementing overnight parking and/or camping bans in popular places (plus height barriers)- to the point that a lot of England's nice places will become difficult to stay in a MH or van. You still have Scotland, but if the anti-MH feeling spreads to Scottish councils, my worry is that it could make full time MH living difficult even up there. We still have Europe that is mostly MH friendly, and you can spend 6 months of the year there, but I am worried about MHers turning into some kind of outcast group. I can imagine the locals on Skye might be looking at the lines and lines of vans and MHs parked up in every laybys, and they might start to feel the same resentment as the local residents who complained about vans in places like Scarborough. Maybe the problem is that there are now just too many van dwellers for the space available in the UK? And if more and more of the English van dwellers feel forced out of England, you could see a big rise in the van numbers around Scotland. Its probably the one concern that would stop me moving into a MH, if I'm beng honest. In a canal boat you can park almost anywhere for up to 14 days, so you never feel rushed or harassed. I'm not sure I could adapt happily to the restricted future that might lie ahead for van dwellers in the UK.

    • @wanderingbychoice
      @wanderingbychoice 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ your right to be wary about the future situation, Scotland is easier but more and more signs going up, that is why we are reluctant to get rid of the car, as we can go to campsites and have no stress, and still visit the nice places that are difficult for the van, the trouble for us is we only have limited funds to live on and we are finding it hard to keep to our budget on campsite fees, but there are still some good places that don’t rip you off, I also think that we don’t like crowds helps, not that we are anti social but prefer being in a farm field to being in a fun fair, each to their own, but I do believe that the media and TH-cam etc are guilty of overblowing the situation, but time will tell, we have some friends with boats who spend the summer in small mh, and then the winter on the boat, best of both worlds 👍👊

    • @theamateurboater5892
      @theamateurboater5892 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@wanderingbychoice , thanks again, and its worrying to hear you echo some of the things I've heard about more parking restrictions appearing. I dont have a big monthly amount to live on either tbh, so for me paying campsite fees will simply not be an option for more than a couple of nights each month. For that reason, my focus will be on making my MH as off grid as possible, so I'll fill the roof (and maybe some of the sides) with solar panels, and I'll take the lithium batteries from out of my boat. With 1000 watts of panels, you can power a MH or boat for 8 months of the year with no help needed from the engine charging, and in the winter (with very little solar) I'm hoping to use a generator to recharge the batteries (when I'm not driving). Lithium batteries are amazing - they soak up the charge much fast than lead acids, so you run the generator for half the time, and they store the power for much longer, so over a 10 year period they will pay for themselves and more. The other thing I'm hoping will make life easier is a composting or separating toilet. Urine is collected separately in a bottle with no added chemicals, and it can be safely thrown over a hedge or onto a field with no risks to nature. Or you can take the bottle into a local public toilet inside a rucksack (to avoid inquisitive glances from locals), and empty it there. The solids are in a plastic container and contain no added chemicals, and so that can be safely buried when the container is full (every two or 3 weeks). A big plus is that the smell of the solids in a composting toilet is much less awful than a cassette. I'm hoping a 6.5m van will make it easier to get into local towns, so I wont need a car, and it should also make it easier to find parkups. To keep some feeling of interior space my plan is to have a very large front lounge, and an overcab bed. So the bed is permanently made up, but I can still have a big lounge space. I can see how you feel you need the car if you plan to pay for seasonal pitches, and the MH will be parked up for a lot of the time. I think it would be absolutely fascinating to hear your thoughts on the different options MHers can choose in terms of MH length, and the advantages of each option. E.g. your MH is like a small flat, with tons of living space, but it means you have to have another transport method to get into small local towns for shopping etc. A 6m MH can go almost anywhere a car can, and get into local supermarket car parks etc, but it has very little real storage, and it might feel cramped for some people. A 7m MH might offer compromises in between the other two. Anyway, enough of my prattle. Please dont feel the need to reply to this one, I was just kind of thinking aloud and it doesnt warrant you taking any more of your time to write replies! Take care, and safe travels!

    • @wanderingbychoice
      @wanderingbychoice 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ no problem replying, I can chat all day lol, well that’s what Lorna says, we have 2 lithium batteries 2x120ah and they are great, we use a power station to charge in emergency situations and charge from our generator too, getting 1k of solar on a roof of any mh is going to be a problem though because of the silly places the manufacturer puts skylights and vents, so definitely check it out, we have in total 1100 watts of solar with our portable panels and our roof but it’s not easy to get them all out when wildcamping as it draws to much attention, so for us our 250 on the roof is enough in spring summers and even autumn, winter no good at all, if. You get a generator get a 2kw as you can use it at the same time as charging, our 1k trips if we try, I would go for a 7 or 8 meter van as I’ve not had any issues parking really it’s only when we tow the car that length is a problem because we become just over 12 meters then, emptying the toilet is not easy though, better in Scotland lots of aires and free places, so your idea is a good one, I think you have a good solid plan and you should be ok, just research everything and be prepared for it to change in an instant and you can’t go wrong, look forward to chatting more in the future, safe travels 🙏👊👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🚌
