    I grow up in Bourke and I had a beautiful childhood we made our fun we go and get the fruit box’s then go to the tip and get some axles and wheels take them home and my grandfather helped me make a billy cart then we would hock the dogs to it and they took me home. We never closed up at night like we have to do now. All my fathers ancestors. Came from England and started there business there my grandfathers 5 generations started the paddle steamer to take the wool Echuca to be put on another paddle steamer to take them to the ship to be loaded to go where it had to go to be sold . My grandfather got a lot of afghanis from there home he also got camel brought out for the Afghanistan, Afghanistan to pull the wagons loaded with wool. All my family are laid to rest in the Bourke cemetery . We never used mosquito coils we had a drum that sat in the hall and we go and get cow pads . Every one know one earls every other and we didn’t . I use to go walk about with the aboriginals elders I learnt a lot from them and and I taught my grand kids how to survive in the bush kids would find it boring these days but the day will come when they wished they took the time to learn

    Wonderful Stephen. Some really great ideas. Obviously you've had a few disasters. We bought a beautiful Modcon Camper Van and I haven't stopped pulling it apart, modifying it, based on some terrible experiences mates of mine have suffered. We went around Oz some time back, trouble free but I am still learning. I might add that my wife keeps saying, "How is it that everyone else buys one of these and just goes camping??" You know the answer to that question.

    • @steve.rhonda_azzopardi
      @steve.rhonda_azzopardi ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John , thanks for your comments. Yes some travellers will buy a van and push their van to the limits with no preparation or have any idea of potential problems and wonder why things go pear shape just because They think they have a new van . Continuous maintenance, prevention and preparation and knowing your van’s limits is the key to disaster free travelling. Cheers mate.

      Gidday. Can only advise travelling from Halls Creek. As you may already know roads will vary from year to year. We could travel between 60 & 80klm depending. Rough and great conditions along the road. Just take it easy, adjust tyres pressures on van and car. You can get water and fuel at Halls Creek. No water at camp ground and be self sufficient. Once you enter the gate and it gets corrugated there’s a side track along the the fence line that is sometimes smoother than the main road. We didn’t have to book at that time. There are only 10 camp sites there. Get there as early as you can. Go and enjoy cheers.

    Thanks for the video. We are planning to take that route with our Jayco Outback. How did your van go?

    • @steve.rhonda_azzopardi
      @steve.rhonda_azzopardi ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael. It’s up there with the Gibb river road and changes all the time. Like most advise take it slow and tyre pressures are important. If you have a glass door on your shower remove it and replace it with a plastic shower curtain as ours fell out. Take plenty of draw runner screws. Slicone every gap through the floor and around plumbing. Tape up vents for dust. The van handled it ok but expect a few drawers to fall out. I have installed a Dometic dust suppression unit and have done aprox 2000klm of dirt road since and it is fantastic. Get underneath and insulate all your plumbing and electrical wiring with pool noodles, hot water pipes insulation and old garden hose. Always check your brake electrical cables as they can disconnect from rocks. I would try and use metal clamps rather than cable tie’s as they will break. Preparation is the key. Look around underneath and just look what parts are vulnerable to rock damage. This road is very doable. I would take my Jayco anywhere. Good luck cheers.

      Hi mate . Have been using a cheap 5kw Chinese diesel heater purchased on eBay. Has served us well for the past 2 years. I would not be with out it . We are currently giving it a hammering over the last month travelling through Vic and SA and has been down to Zero outside. Not sure what the current supply is right now with the whole Chinese thing at the moment. The other alternative is one of the two original German brands if you are happy to pay over thousand dollars for supply and installation . A personal choice. Hope this helps . Cheers mate.

    That wheel alignment jig is a bloody ripper. I’ve spent hours mucking around with my van which is the same as yours and cursed the alignment. The axles aren’t welded on dead square. Each wheel sits in or out different to its mate so you can’t use a string. Thanks.

    • @steve.rhonda_azzopardi
      @steve.rhonda_azzopardi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely better fuel in hilly terrain. The worst in the patrol was 27litres per hundred kilometres that was a 1200 meter climb and very hard on the poor truck. On normal towing around 23 to 25 sitting on anything from down to 40klm to 90klm per hour. With the cruiser the worst is 24litres. Normal towing around 19 to 22. However you can sit on 100 klm per hour not a problem!!. Cruiser is one of the last off the line April 2021 build and payed through the nose. But I love it.

      Hi newy Joe . No I did not try any charters. At that time they had a very dry wet Season and the fishing was poor. There are fishing charters at Karumba and on the other side of the Gulf in the NT at The fishing club at King Ash Bay. I would not miss doing the Savannah Way from Normanton Via Burketown , Hells Gate, Boorooloola Then up to King Ash Bay. Plenty of rivers to fish of the banks or in a tinny. Be Croc wise. Cheers mate!!

      Hi newy joe. Thanks for your encouraging comments. I am glad you enjoyed these videos and hopefully you get to travel at these great places. I try to let the videos tell the story without my silly mug in front of the camera for most of the video as you don’t have to tell me that I’m not Mr personality Ha Ha. I enjoy taking and editing videos with minimal equipment. Cheers !!!

    Loading extra weight on the rear can lead to/make worse stability sway problems. Not recommended. There are numerous vids on You Tube demonstrating this. Lots of great tips though!

      This is correct and can be a very dangerous problem when travelling. My van is correctly balanced when packed with great consideration taken for weight distribution. The Jerrycans are only used for transporting water to the van and filling up the vans main tanks when we are camped up for a long period with out connection to mains water supply. Full Jerrycans are transport to the van in my tow vehicle and are normally carried on the van empty. This allows us to camp longer offgrid when there is access to water close by. Thanks for your comments and I hope this will clear up any concerns for you and other Caravaners. Cheers.

      @@steve.rhonda_azzopardi Gday mate. Where did you get the portable water pump with the Anderson plug? I need to get one.

      G day Andrew. This Pump was a little project I made up myself. It serves a dual purpose as a spare pump for may van should the need arise if the van pump breaks down and for refiling the van tanks when required when not on water hook up. I purchased the Sureflow pump off the net as it was cheaper than Jayco. Can not remember the site, as there are many to choose from. Just ensure you order the correct model number and flow rate , all the pump specifications and information is on a label on your existing pump in your van. I would definitely stick with the same make and model pump so if needed it will be an easy swap over, you do not want to be trying to make modifications to make it fit when you are on the road. I installed the pump in a 5 Litre plastic Jerry can, which can easily be removed from the can. Alternatively you can install it in a small plastic or wooden container or just on a piece of square timber . Anderson plug, wire cable and switch can be purchased from Jaycar or any auto accessory store. If you are handy it it is a very simple project. Hopefully this will give you some insight. Good luck with this project. Cheers Mate.!!!! PS, I wont be going into production making these. LOL !!!
