On our third dive we actually had the chance to dive along the wall and swim through the towers. It was a pretty surreal feeling. “The 8th Tower” is quintessential of the Underwater Great Wall. Forty year underwater has saved it from 40 years of weathering and manmade destruction keeping it in excellent condition. When divers pass through the tower it’s almost like travelling into the past, or ...

      So I was just there to SCUBA so I don't know the rules on free diving, however for the diving they required you to have a buddy. They also required us to plan for a time slot, as well, though that was probably more for using one of the instructors and their equipment.

    One of our local television stations must have employed an executive with an Air Force connection. Not unusual, since the city was home to both Army and Air Force bases. Around 4:00 PM every day they would either show High Flight, or a commercial for the Air Force Nurse Corps ("You can even wear wings!"). It was mostly kids watching after-school programs, but I guess they made an impression, since I still remember them to this day.

    So way back in the day, some cereal (or maybe it was another product) offered tiny grey polystyrene (or some kind of injected plastic molding) of various USAF aircraft including I believe the Bell X-1, the F86, 102 and 106 but as a kid my favorite was the F104, although at times I imagined being Chuck Yeager and dropping from a B29 and breaking the sound barrier, but that's another story. Just something about the design, the feel, the look. For several years I've searched antique toy shops, the internet, for some remembrance of these tiny toy aircraft. So far no luck. Anyone else remember these?

    • @arillwiltker
      @arillwiltker ปีที่แล้ว

      @@networth00 Not at all. It is the most stress releasing experience you could ever do (maybe next to skydiving or being weightless). This dive was only 78 ft at the sand, so well within the range of a basic open water diver. This is also in Pompano Beach, FL so the water is just about crystal clear, so you can easily be aware of your surroundings. Now if you decide to dive at night or in areas with low visibility then the experience can definitely be different. But you have the option/choice to dive in those areas or not, the whole diving experience is up to you and can do whatever it is you want to do with your own diving experiences. Once you take your first breath under water, it will change your life and you will won't ever not want to be diving. It opens an entirely different world to you, as well, one that most will never see.

      @@networth00 That's great to hear then! I go out with the South Florida Diving Headquarters when I go there. Great place with some great people! There's a quite a number of reefs and wrecks that they go to quite regularly too! I promise you'll have a great time getting into it! You can also do a Discover SCUBA experience if that is something you think would work out better for you than just jumping straight into the certification, but if you have other people there that can help you through and then go as a dive buddy then you're in a pretty good position to take advantage of it! Also, in a great area too! I have drive 2 hrs to get there, drive sucks but the diving's worth it!
