Babolat's 11th generation of the most popular tennis racket of all times is not what I expected to be. 4 years of wait and we receive slightly more feel oriented Pure Drives without the real "drive" in them. I think there are thousands of players who'll buy that racquet just because they want to play like Rafa. And now you have Alcaraz at the top followed by Rune, Felix and others who are still using it. As long as Alcaraz is at top, it'll continue to be one of the most popular racquets. Not to mention, Pure Aero 98 was one of the best selling racquets, still is!
Would you prefer the Gravity Tour or Blade V9 16x19?
I think after these videos you will be on Babolat's 'hit list' ha I am not much into Pure Drives since 2020/21 so I dont have a 'dog' in this racquet discussion so much however some of my thoughts. You are right that you cannot really tell by another reviewer's hitting or opinion about a racquet how it will be for yourself or another player. I see often that a number of 'big-time' channels will make numerous bold claims about a racquet or even just are positive about a new racquet because its new. Speaking for myself I generally take what numerous reviewer's say as a note but not the guide let alone a conclusive remark. With youtube you have to take what you can so to speak from each video. I prefer to test them fully myself and then come to such conclusions. Even in my own videos I say in the final results and conclusion that is 'my opinion and based on my personal experience' You stated at one point 'its a gimmick to say more or less spin by 5%', well if there is not only different specifications and even materials in a racquet inducing less/more spin and different ball rpm then how is it a gimmick? I think its key to compartmentalise the performance of the racquet in analysis in one respect and then tie them altogether as one unit. The example in question- New Pure Drive which you stated has still limited spin but less free power. Well, there is some % of less power so this would be some definable quantity. Definitely correct that Feel makes a difference however I think with the way the sport is headed its not the end deciding factor when a player is trying to decide what frame to go with. It could be that a player comes down to 5 racquets and while the less feel oriented racquet produces the most power on groundstrokes and serves which is what the player is after. As for Babolat though its going to be interesting when I return to demoing. I am set to try Pure Drive, Aeros and Strikes after re-thinking things. Speaking from my direct experience as to the popularity of Pure Drive racquets firstly on the club level there is a few present but its less than Pure Aero or Strikes. On the Mens National Tour nearly no one plays with them. Its only a very few. On Womens side its a lot more but down from where it used to be. Pure Aeros are the most popular but even still are behind Yonex and Wilson. Pure Strike is nearly as uncommon as Pure Drives but still a bit present on the womens side. I doubt there is going to be much changes from Babolat. Will be nothing new until 2028 as they are not going to really change the Aeros
Gel challenger 14 or gel rocket 11??
Great review well done. What about comfort though?
I disagree with you in a few points. I had the 2018 one, the 2021 one and now i got the 2025 PD. For me the changes are really good. The slice feels a lot smoother and you have a lot more feel when doing it. It feels much nicer to play with it as the versions before. You still have more then enough power with it. The spin generation is also good and when you look at mpetshi perricard you can see he has LOTS of spin on his forehand, control inscreased also by a fair bit. I'm playing with a western grip and my spin is BIG with this racket.
Babolat wasted 4 years
Does anyone actually care that the same grommets are used from 2021? I don't. It's the same drill pattern so why does it need to be changed.
What about ezone 2025??
How does the tour compare to the Pure Aero 98? And to speed legend mp?
Finally, an honest review of the new PD. I was very disappointing demoing the 100 for a week, its probably once of the worst rackets I've tried in the past 2 years. Totally agree with your opinion on this video
I back up this experience. I’m a 2021 PD user, and I demo’d the 2025 models with all of the hype in the world and the expectation to buy one. I found these rackets mushy and unstable in my hands and I couldn’t find my backhand with them. I served better with the new ones at least. I ended up going with another recent racket release after demo’ing around. I really wish I liked the new ones though.
Thanks a lot for this honest review!
How can there be less spin, if they changend „nothing“? Lower stiffnes = no spin? Did you enjoy the previous model? Will u playtesting nordicdots rackets? Greetings!
I explained it in my review video: th-cam.com/video/jDSehRvkzak/w-d-xo.html. The changes they have made are not enough to make the racket better. It's a less powerful, less stiffer and more muted Pure Drive. Pure Drives were never meant for spin. And this update has the least spin potential because it has lost the power at the same time. Maybe there is a little bit better control, but I would never buy a Pure Drive for control reasons. There were no changes to the frame geometry of the regular 300g version, it's the same shape for the last I believe 3 generations with the exact same throat etc. So how can you really change a power racket just by adding dampening and lower the RA? It doesn't make any sense. Babolat must make a new series of rackets to stay in the game. Pure Drive is a very easy example of easy concept, but they ruined it with minor changes to make the racket somehow more interesting to even wider audience. They need to expand the brand to catch with the other competitors. PD 2021 was great, super powerful and true to it's roots. It was maybe the most powerful version they have made.
Thanks for your honesty! I’ll stick to PA 98 which has plenty power, control and spin …
Well the PA 98 is the best Advanced racquet imo, but if you don't have the skill to handle it it won't help you, that is why people buy the Pure drive it is easier to use, for example I wanted to buy a Pure Aero 98 2 days ago but I changed my mind because I know I am not on that level, however I will buy one when a new Pure Aero will be out and the old ones are on Sale just in case I get to thay level
How would you rank these please : Tfight305s Blade 98 Babolat 98 2025 Prestige tour Aero 98
th-cam.com/video/K3B8Yw2skbE/w-d-xo.html
Hi, so the head leather tour grip which is 29 grams is a little too heavy? but it can improve handling by bringing the balance closer....Thinx for this very interesting vidéo.
please! white racquets are not nice for pros. that’s why it wasn’t there back then.
I like white. It's positive and fresh. When I see Medvedev or Swiatek with white Tecnifibers, it's very natural to me now. I'm also a fan of white cars. But everyones taste is different.
The racket technology has not really changed that much since the introduction of graphite. There are some new dampening technologies but their mere purporse is to pretend there is something new when in fact there really is not. They went so far with the dampening stuff that people now prise Wilson RF rackets for not having dampening tech. It is ridiculous. Oh and they made the pro rackets lighter but you will still need to add weight to get stability on your backhand and it is really weird to have a light racket with heavy swingweight anyway. So even that is pretty much pointless. I would very much prefer if they reissued classic rackets from the 90s with all the cool metallic colours instead of the toy design we get nowadays.
What I like about the new RF's is the crisp, clean feel. So the racket is not stiff, not soft, but feels overall very old-school like. And it's unforgiving, yet satysfying. Modern rackets tend to be too easy to use and less satysfying to hit with because there is no "risk/reward" ratio. So you don't have to improve that much to play with those rackets which is a shame. I agree on the design. For example the new Pro Kennex Black Ace rackets looks very old-school with those eye popping designs. Modern rackets are sometimes too serious or conservative, boring let's translate it like this.
@@CzechTennisGuy Black Ace looks amazing. Gonna test it on the testing day on Saturday.
Hey, thanks for the review ! How do you compare it with an Ezone 98, eventually the new 2025 version ? I've used an Ezone100 but that had to much power and less control so I switched to Percept 97 with some custom, great control but less power. Now I'm looking for a racket with similar control like Percept 97 but a little more power. I'm looking at Technifiber 305s and the new 2025 Ezone 98. Thanks for any feedback !
th-cam.com/video/K3B8Yw2skbE/w-d-xo.html
According to the Tecnifibre website the beam should be 22,5-23-22,5 mm
You are right. I took the numbers from Tennis Warehouse. Next time I will check the official page. Thanks for pointing this out. 👍
Could you get your hands on the 2024 model and compare it to this previous 2021 version?
I can't get hands on any Dunlop right now.
what would be better for an intermediate to slight advanced player? I dont use much spin Yonex Ezone 100 2022/25 , Yonex VCore 100 2023 or Babolat Pure Drive 2025
th-cam.com/video/K3B8Yw2skbE/w-d-xo.html
The RS version was a better quality racket than the iso . It performed best with razor code . The strings are the key to this line of rackets . When a company is relying on the strings to do most of the work , it regulates the racket as a mear utility which can be discardable , effectively removing sales . This will force companies to more design their strings to specialize for the racket . They will do this rather than admit that they have given up on high performance rackets . It is as if you took a mass market Honda car and sprucing it up a bit cosmeticly and calling it an nsx super car but really it's the change of the motor and suspension doing the work . T fight pro rackets have an accesable trap door .
I am in with this oppinion Derek. The RS was amazing, the build quality and feel of the frame was super solid. Felt little bit underpowered, like a pro stock racket. And the SW 340? Crazy, unplayable. Starting with the ISO the frame feels a lot "airy", hollow, light let's say. I am also at this moment focusing more on the strings, because they are absolutely crucial for the overall good experience. And with the trap door I didn't see a single Tecnifibre racket having it. But if the pro stocks have it, it's good.
@CzechTennisGuy sorry for the typos , the keyword letters and auto correct screw up certain words , also the comment section will not let me edit and send. The 1st paragraph is strings that are very important . I believe there are a few more typos but I can not get to them while typing on my phone .
This design is much better.
It's still all white with french drip all over... ?!?
díky sa skvele video.
First
Much appreciated on the review and the opinion. I am a pro staff fan and I like the control of these rackets. I play with the Wilson Pro Staff 97a V11. I should have upgraded to V13 but the specs didn't change. Outside of some more comfort with the updated Braided Technology, I didn't feel it warranted an upgrade. I love the stability on my one hand backhand and forehand and if I hit the sweat spot I get really great power. The advantage for me on a heavier and more plow through mass is that even when I hit off centre or slightly off the sweat spot the racket still stays stable and gives met he control I depend on. I have a tough time when I'm rushed, and when I try to maneuver the the racket on my slice. Again, If I have time, it's works out ok but I always find that with the lighter versions I am able to access my slice better, and the speed of racket is much faster. Unfortunately I lose stability and the heaviness and depth of the ball. I find I have to generate more power with my body vs relaxing my body and letting the racket fly and letting it do the work for me. With the game ever evolving and getting faster and faster I realize that lighter rackets that can produce more speed and spin are becoming the standard. What are your thoughts between the feel, mass, comfort etc, between the RF97a and the new RF01 Pro? thanks again!
th-cam.com/video/K3B8Yw2skbE/w-d-xo.html
My main racquet is the head extreme and I’m upgrading to the gravity, I hope it suits my play style
There is more control and feel with the Gravity.
I have the x1 285g and i have been enjoying it. It plays like a 300g rackets, give a lot of stability and power, even when ur being attacked and has to defend. The RA 71 is high, but the dump tecnology works really well, so u cant feel the vibrations. The only thing , i think the swing weight is a bit high, so it is a bit slow, but overall great racket. I prefer a bit more my Wilson Shift 285g but i had to use lead tape to have more stability. The thing with my Shift is if i play a lot with it, i feel a bit pain in my elbow, so i try to use both rackets all the time.
I agree. The TF-X1 285 is a boosted 300g racket. The stability is great and power has no limits. But the manooovrlbity is not good and the racket feels slow in some critical situations.
Pure Strike with Alu Power Rough 16L @48/48 is an absolutely amazing setup in case anyone wants to know.
Thanks for helping me to choose a suitable racquet. Your help exceeded my expectations. It was worth much more than I donated to you from Paypal.
I'm glad I could help Teoman. Thank you for your donation as well. 🙌
Hi. Thanks for this great in-depth review. I have been looking at this racket for some time and now I ordered one and I'm waiting for delivery. Usually, I string Technifiber Razor Code, but I will try the Artengo TA990 G17. How do you string this racket if you string the same tension in mains and crosses? With 4 knots or 2 knots? Is there any recommendation? Thanks for the feedback.
th-cam.com/video/K3B8Yw2skbE/w-d-xo.html
Hi!!! I hope your elbow is better!! Did you find a remedy with PRP? I wanted to ask you a question since you have tried both rackets…. which one is better? Babolat Pure Drive 2025 or Head Extreme MP 2024? Thank you very much!!!!❤
Hi Jesus, thank you for your support. I didn't try PRP. For now I'm just using some creams, excercise and massage. It's a lot better. I almost don't feel it during play and also during serve, which was the biggest issue. In one of my previous videos I posted info about Super thanks and answering questions on my channel. So this is valid for everyone now and if you want answer to your question, there is a Super thanks button. It is how it is I can't answer questions for free anymore, it's just too overwhelming and I'm not getting anything from it. th-cam.com/video/K3B8Yw2skbE/w-d-xo.html
Has any babolat been any good for the last 10 years??
To be honest...good, yes. Excellent, no. I think Pure Strikes 4gen are a better racket update compared to this Pure Drive 2025. But still these rackets are in my opinion outdated and they don't truly offer anything new or exciting. Three old lines of rackets isn't enough in todays crowded world of tennis rackets.
Did you also tested the pstrike 100 16x20. A nice stick, but a little bit problems with touch and feel. Maybe the problem is the nf2 -tech?
No, I tested the 98 18x20. Pure Strike feel like a more solid update to me. But still, another 4 years of waiting and you don't really feel you're getting an updated version in terms of how quickly is tennis evolving. 4 years in making? That's 16 grandslams between versions. That's a lot what happened and Babolat doesn't reflect the change in balls, speed, manooovrlbity, comfort etc. So afterall the new updates from Babolat feel "outdated" because they stand on a 30 year old foundation which is no longer that important as it was in 2000's let's say.
How does this one compare to the ASICS Solution Speed FF 3?

You a in a war with babolat, interesting. I saved two brandnew pd tours (2021). I was told there will be no PD tour version now. Also less spin on the 300 g version compared to the 2021?
If you call that a war...I call it the truth. The PD 2021 was better in almost every aspect. More power, more spin, more stability, more crisp clean feel...This is just a downgraded update to please the lower RA lovers. It sacrifices so much for so less innovation it doesn't make any sense to me to switch. Happy users of the 2021 version should stay away from this one.
So it is going on. 👏🏻
I am currently using the 100s with the 16x19. I find the 100 pretty forgiving and the spin is pretty good for my style and 1HBH. The biggest thing with the racquet I find is the tension and the string used. Babolat RPM Rough at 50/48 lbs is amazing.
I like your rackets reviews man, keep on.
The embargo hurt that much uh? I see...
I don't know if you noticed it but I was critical about Babolat the last couple of years so this goes hand in hand with my ongoing opinion. And the embargo bully on my shorts video showing a buttcap of the new rackets is just a cherry on the cake that proves how Babolat is the most ossified tennis racket company on the market. Instead of being happy that someone is hyping their product for free they act from the position of power. In todays world where an opened mind should be celebrated they act exactly the opposite. Like an closed ecosystem of slowly dying dinosaurs.
The embargo made someone crazy. I'm not a PD fan, but this review sounds extremely biased, more like you tried to get out the anger because they made you delete your first impression video than an honest review. I'm a subscriber of the channel, but recent video updates are really going downhill fast. Hope you find a good direction to manage the channel.
Honest = crazy. So the embargo is something I forgot the day I deleted the shorts video. Remember it was a shorts video (few seconds), where I showed a buttcap of the racket. A buttcap, that has been the same for many years. And the reaction from Babolat was exactly the one you will get from companies who want to control and manipulate others from the position of power. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense to bully someone like this about a nonsense. So yes, Babolat did prove what I think about them for the last couple of years. And not only me, but also others around think the same (the players, juniors). The company is like an old skeleton sitting on a throne not willing to move anywhere. Anyway. The review is based on my 20 years of experience with Pure Drives. So I know the rackets like very few people out there. I played with them for 20 years (16-36 years old), which includes about 4 generations of the racket. So I can be biased, yes and I need to be. They've got issues with Pure Strikes as well, they are not willing to truly innovate, not willing to risk and work hard on new products and this is something I can't ignore. If it was a cheap mediocre company, I would not care but this is a premium brand that should represent tennis and offer new tennis gear in the best possible way. But it's not. I think I don't have to explain it to everyone who doesn't agree with me. Have an openend mind and question everything. That's my rule my whole life and it proves to be the best one in this crazy world.
@ Then you should also have an open minded to listen to different opinions of your videos instead of defending yourself immediately. So much negativity in this review, made it uncomfortable to watch. I’m just a regular viewer, not a PD fan or anything like I said the before. I believe I have a more neutral view than you when comes to this specific review. Every racquet has its own audience, most people buy PD won’t see your review. I saw it more like a personal rant than an actual review.
@@ulunxtns You know where is the door. If you don't like what you see and hear. Just leave. You started attacking my opinion. I explained in detail beyond my duties in the comment why is this review so critical. If you comment one more time undermining my opinion, I will have to block you from my channel. Because you don't bring any constructive ideas or views on the racket that would others benefit from. Instead of assaulting my review you can say why you don't agree with the things I said. You just only bash against the way I said it. So the problem for you is not the content or message itself, but the nature of the message, the tone let's say. It's your problem you cannot deal with it in a different way that would extend the review and bring something new to the table. So if you want to back up the racket, back it up with your thoughts. But don't attack my thoughts.
He says the review is negative. If all racquet reviews were 100% positive, they wouldn't be an honest review!!. If you are looking for reviews that are all positive with no negatives at all, then just go over to tennis warehouse! Every racquet they sell is perfect. I'm starting to think this guy is from Babolat!
@ Thank you for your support! TW is selling racquets so there is no wonder they stay away from being critical. They can't truly express personal opinion because that would hurt the sales. And that's why there are independent reviewers like me who cannot be "bought" by any company.
Thanks!
Once again thank you so much for your donation. 🙌 If you want to ask me a question you can do that on my channel or private sending me an email: "czechtennisguy@gmail.com". Enjoy the manooovrlbity!
Tennis Guy: very happy to see you hitting again… This new PD is getting a lot of love from reviewers. Have you tried the new Ezone 100? I just ordered it… I wonder how it compares to the new PD? Best, John
Thank you John. The hand is getting better, but it's still not fully recovere. I will ask you a question - have you seen any racket review recently that will not praise the new models? Probably not. It's always the same - they improved this, it's slightly better, better comfort, better feel, better spin...really? The message is always this - buy the latest version, it's better. Sometimes the reality is, not it's not better, we just have forgotten how the old models were good. It's the "memory" issue here and the big lie that every new product is better. Question everything. With the Ezone I'm not sure. I was promised to receive them but Sportega store has long time problems with Yonex (somehow it's not so exciting brand for them) so I'm not sure whether I will receive them for a review. See, I tell you things I should not probably tell you anyway but, I can't help myself and I'm here to talk the truth. And truth most of the times hurt someone. Best, Michal
@ I have lots of respect for you, Michal! VERITAS, Best, John
Thank you John, I really appreciate it 🙌
Is the drop in power a result of the lower SW?
It's part of the problem. But the bigger one is the lower RA, which is very unusual for this type of frame. Instead of super fast response the frame responds slower now. And without some changes to the geometry of the frame you cannot expect that if you lower the RA the power will remain the same. Bad engineering and lack of true innovation in my opinion.
damn i was thinking about getting this one as my first racket 😮💨
Demo it and if you like it get it. I definitely not recommend a blind buy with this one.
@ wouldn‘t buy a racket without testing it first. I’m gonna have the Chance to test it in February, but i will definetly be cautious…thanks for the review!
love your honesty with the review. tennis reviewers don't generally do this. looking forward for yout tfight review
