MV Jupiter was the oldest of three Caledonian MacBrayne ferries affectionately know as the 'streakers'. Propulsion was by twin Voith Schneider propellers, one at the bow and one at the stern. These propellers could provide thrust through 360 degrees allowing great manourerability. Jupiter entered service in 1974 and spent much of her career operating the Gourock - Dunoon service on the upper Cl...

The boat's steaming in, oh, I watch the sidewheel spin, And I think about her when I hear that whistle blow. I can't change my mind, oh, I knew all the time that she'd go, That's a choice I made long ago. 😁

The lost Denny turbine steamers 😥 23:10 - imagine for a few seconds it's real.
Wonderful film and models. I have three myself. Does the club still exist? Will there be a 2023 Spring Show? Thanks for the memories. Rmb
Club is very much alive and kicking, we sail most Saturdays through the year (Weather dependant). Usually between 1 and 4 in the afternoon.
I wish I had a cameraman like you!
That is super. I am glad to see others are having this kind of event where model boats are mostly with passengers!!
Are these powered by steam ? If not, isn't the club misnamed ?
Hi Lyndar, thanks for taking the time to comment. The term Steamer refers to the full size ships that were such a huge part of the river Clyde's history. The Clyde Steamer fleet was made up of paddle and turbine Steamers. Pleasure steamers designed to carry passengers on day and shorter cruises on the Clyde estuary The ships that are represented here in model form are indeed electric powered. The Club's name refers to the generic term that these ships were fondly referred to by those that sailed on them. The tradition of these pleasure steamer cruises can still be experienced today aboard the Waverley. The last sea going paddle steamer in the world.
@@hdsdi yes. I cruised the Waverley to Southend last month. Beautiful experience. What a pity there are no steam-powered models, but I guess they would be a lot of trouble……
Steamers with no steam?

when? is this a regular event?
Hi Vindcari, Ship Ahoy! is an annual event. The next exhibition is taking place at Summerlee Heritage Museum in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. Saturday 18th April 2020 from 10am until 5pm. Thank you for your interest.
Does anyone remember the "Jeannie Deans " ?? I remember cruising on the "Queen Mary" (11)" , and "Dutchess of Hamilton" as a kid . Doon the watter , a great way to spend Sunday . Wales UK.
A lovely semi scale model and a delight to watch.
1:53 thats ps waverly
16:37 I think its the Jeanie Deans , they are very similar in outline arent they ?
@@fredtedstedman Yes Jeanie Deans served in WW2, and the yard that was used to recommission her for civilian duties I believe made modifications to her. And it was the plans for the modified Jeanie that was used as the basis for the Waverley's plans. The ship yard was A&J Ingles at what was known as the Pointhouse yard, which is where the Riverside museum is now.
Great stuff! And Congratulations to all the builders of these fine models. From one who earned his living under the glorious red duster. PS Pls keep scale speeds for ferries under 50 knots. TQ
3 people who watched this, are land lubbers
The ''real'' ship was built in my hometown Langesund in Norway. She is one of the last passenger ferries ever made by the Shypyard. Ths shipyard is now gone. I Still live in Langesund, so many pictures from the shipyard is hanging around in the library :-D . I Love this model, makes great memories !!
Thank you for taking the time to comment on the film and model. I am interested to learn more about the yard where she was built. Sorry to hear she was the last passenger ship built there. I have found one picture of her shortly after launch. I would be very interested in any other information or pictures of the ship being built. Maybe one day I could visit Langesund myself. Thank you again for commenting. Kind regards Andrew
Thanks for sharing!
Bonjour, Amazing buildings ! How many of your boats use steam plants ? Amicalement, Raphaël
Great video, happy memories of a good day out despite the rain...and spotted myself getting off the Macbraynes bus!

Thank you for posting this lovely video of the work done by some VERY TALENTED people. A LOT of time, effort and money has gone in to the models on show and the result is some STUNNING models of a Bye gone age. Well done to all concerned.
