SUMMARY
PM Playbook for getting a new job ...
𝟭 - 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁
You are the product, this is defining your ICP:
• Industry
• Stage
• Culture
• Business model
Think about where you want to be in 3-5 years time.
What does your next role need to be to move you along that path?
𝘦.𝘨. "𝘐'𝘮 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘥 - 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘈 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘉2𝘊 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳"
𝟮 - 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗩 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 / 𝟭-𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼
Most applications fail at the CV screen
Make sure your CV and LinkedIn are 🔥:
• What problems do you solve?
• What results do you deliver?
Make it:
• Concise - it'll only be read for a few seconds
• Quantitative - numbers make you look good
Distil down your 1-line pitch for your ICP:
𝘦.𝘨. "𝘐'𝘮 𝘢 𝘚𝘯𝘳 𝘗𝘔 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 4+ 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨.𝘤𝘰𝘮".
𝟯 - 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘇𝘆
• Make a simple spreadsheet CRM
• Add target companies and prioritise them
• Add contacts and opportunities for each
Now do outreach via multiple channels.
• Warm intros - speak to people you know and ask for help
• Cold intros - ask people you don't know for help
• Applications - low chance of success, but get it done
Build genuine connections.
Play the short and long game.
𝟰 - 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀
Hopefully you start to get meetings
Research the people you meet:
• Linkedin
• Google
Research the companies they work at:
• Company website
• Industry press
• G2 / Trustpilot
• Ahrefs
• Glassdoor
Read job descriptions (if there is one!) IN DEPTH:
• Map your experience to what they are looking for
• Make it 100% clear in your mind why you are the perfect fit for the role
• Don't waste time on roles if you aren't convinced of the fit yourself
𝟱 - 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀
When you get into formal interviews, DO YOUR PREP
This is an exam. Don't forget to revise.
Common questions to prep for:
• Career narrative - your previous experience and why you want this role
• Product sense - what you would build and why
• Metrics - how good is your analytical fluency
• Favourite products - your industry awareness, intuition and enthusiasm
• Behavioural questions - tell me a time when...
• Prepared case studies - take-home tasks you need to prepare

How much discovery is enough? That's a tricky question to answer, because as always "it depends"... Let's start at the beginning. Models won't tell you the impact you'll have. But they are still essential tools. Impact models are useful because: a) It's not all about the answer.
