what's the dial for on the inside

So l have a coromal 1996 mdl and can't get in, the door key makes a click noise at 3 o'clock on the lock but won't open. So what's next? Thanks Kevin.

Just had my 1973 model caravan for a couple of months and find the door lock sometimes doesn't lock. Am thinking of just replacing the whole lock with a new one as I'm pretty sure it's the original. Would you recommend that or is there something I'm not doing right? Cheers, Bron
