This is all so helpful, thank you! For phrases, is it best to simply think of them as memorization? I'm able to see some of the rules from which they are deduced, but sometimes it feels arbitrary which sounds are kept in and which are left out. I don't know if there are simply rules I don't yet understand that guide everything.

At 1:53, are you sure that's the correct outline for dependent? I would write it as d-pend-ent. It looks like you're starting yours with the "div" blend, and that doesn't make sense to me.

Usually the bottom of the first consonant rests on the baseline of writing. You show that perfectly with the downward strokes like vase and save. In my writing, I'd also rest the forward strokes of "m" and "n" just above the line, meaning that in a word like "met," the "m" would float just above the line of writing, the "e" would actually cross the line, and the "t" would go back up above the line of writing.
