Flying Aces is held every year in September at Ferry Meadows Peterborough by the Peterborough Model Flying Club. Its a great event with a great atmosphere for a days fun free flight flying. Most disciplines for small models are covered however there no IC engines allowed. The event is very well run by PMFC and the set up allows flying pretty much from your car boot. Fun is very much the order o...

Saturday 7th September saw the club’s Autumn Duration Competition take place is near ideal conditions. The day started rather misty but cleared dry if overcast day. The wind stayed very light to non existent with a slight drift from the south. 7 classes were run which gave CD Gary Law and Alan Trinder a lot to do but they both found time to fly in some of the competitions, Alan winning the E20 ...

So far Lodge has always been worth the couple of hours drive and this one didn't break that rule. Without the timescale of a competition we just flew and enjoyed the flying. Winds were light in the morning and there were some lovely flights. Great to see Mark Mayfield's new Mosquito taking advantage of the knee high grass. Trimming is looking promising though with the CG shift forward ( see Mar...

There were a few that used another source of power than rubber- the plane was placed on the ground and the fellow walked away and waited for the thing to start up by itself. How does that work?
Some are electric and use a small programmable timer for start up, full power, cruise and decent such as this one www.atomicworkshop.co.uk/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=66&zenid=rko513usiiuv2hgn27f68l7rn6
Artists and their artwork!
awesome!
Someday I'll find a group of indoor flyers and join them! Looks like a blast!😊
Great that the aircraft could circle within the bounds of the gym, and not climb so high that they hit the roof. Well done, designers, builders and flyers!
5:45 what kind of plane is that?!
Its a canard Mini Stick designed by Dr Rainer Gaggl There's article about them here in the SAM1066 journal www.sam1066.org/nc0724.pdf
IHe makes those tiny CO2 motors himself, they are microscopic and run for a very long time
Was a brilliant day Chris. What a pool of great talent we have, your Camel going especially well 👍
The thrill and excitement of free flying is and remains timeless. I always enjoy your videos. It's a shame that it's no longer practiced to the same extent here in Germany 😊🙏👋
I love watching free flight because it's pure machinery, no electronics helping.
Roy
Very nice too....
Would love to visit berinsfield again, when is the next meet?
Berinsfield is the first Sunday of the month October to June. The next one is Sunday 1st December
That towline glider looked very much like a KK Caprice.
Thanks Chris, a great day out. Those Peterborough aces fly things I would not like to tackle. Especially the EDF Harrier, unfortunately not shown. Real Aeromodellers.
Thanks Ivan. Funnily enough I do remember filming Phil's Harrier but when I got back ..no video
Woohhh, the BV-222 is amazing🎉🎉
Beautiful workmanship ! ( ..and many trimming sessions to get it right! )
Impressive flights and models! Thx for keeping the inspiration going!
2:07 - classic coment of free flight modellars :-) regards (still flying ff) Marcin
Great flight of the C.O.2 Coquette.👍
Super stuff, thanks for that.
Where is this located at?
Trinity is in Newbury Berks
Gerhard's planes always amaze me
FABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB DAYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Nice!
Great fun! Hilarious collisions and near misses. I'd guess some of you Gents could use a refresher on center of gravity and trimming tips.
This event must not have been in the US. The FAA and AMA would be having Kittens.
Extra points for aerobatics?
Muncie has had light winds past two years and hopefully this year too. FAC should have a compressed air event as air is always available even if good rubber is not. It is also the most environmentally friendly motive source especially if hand pump used.
Unfortunately conditions very turbulent for small models.
Whew, that breeze was a challenge Chris.
Thanks for your continuing coverage of your FF events Chris. It must make a busy day for you.
anyone doing compressed air?
I've not come across compressed air for a while. Mostly rubber power and gliders here with the occasional TSP rocket motors
Looks like perfect conditions
Thanks for doing yet another video thing Chris. I think we all had a very nice day. Pity there were no shots of your aeroplane which flew rather well. Hope we can get a winter event on the Meadow.
Why ? Rc equipment is very affordable and while they still crash they don't always crash.
Because the challenge of building and trimming a model to fly on its own and the resulting reward when it does is huge, way more to me than flying RC. I fly Rc gliders as well but prefer Free Flight Scale, it's just a different discipline to RC
I love these traditional models, but true FF is not for me. I like 'radio assisted free flight' (flying FF style models in a FF style way, but with R/C on throttle and rudder. I wouldn't have the courage to just let a model go and do its own thing without some way to bring it back and keep it out of trees. Neither would I have the skill or patience to trim a model so perfectly.
Alot of these fellas don't have that skill or patience either. This just seems wierd. To spend all that time and effort just to throw your model into the air and watch it smash itself into the ground.
Great stuff! (That Euler!)
A bit windy, was it?
The little copter is so cool. Nobody ever makes a scale copter though. Small 3D printed gears you could work out a drive mechanism inside a scale fuselage.
There are quite a few scale rubber powered helicopters ,just google them .
Just a wonderful time!
Utterly captivating Indoor superlight flights
Bang goes the flight line
Looks like you all had great fun
A super day, despite the rather blustery conditions. Love Lodge Farm!
I don't think I've ever seen a UK flying event that didn't suffer annoying wind like this. Admire your dedication gentlemen!
Great video Chris. Shame it was a bit to blustery to trim the Mosquito a bit more, but the adjusted decalage and nose weight was definitely evident. 👍🏻 Thanks for tagging my channel in the description as well. Much appreciated 🎉
Great video as always.
A very enjoyable day out, thank you 👍
Hi, the air was very rough as you can see, not good for us. However much later in the afternoon with just 3 of us left on the field the wind dropped off and we did nice flights. It was flat calm at 6 pm and I was alone with no sheep for company. Great video, nice to see Marks Mossy at Lodge I'm itching for us to get it trimmed. At least my Meteor sound interesting!
Wind speeds just weren’t in our favour yesterday mate, and I’m glad I didn’t risk another flight.
Cracking flight from Andy, pretty good camera work too keeping it in shot.
