MG Midget Suspension Oil Change HD 1080p
It's a great feeling doing a repair that's cheap or free but makes a big difference to the enjoyment of the car. Antifreeze will help to stop the valve from seizing as well as moving it regularly.
Often it’s those little jobs that make all the difference. We now move it regularly depending on the temperature of the day.
I do feel sorry that your trip did not go as planned. I certainly am familiar with the sinking lost feeling when a car breaks down miles from home. I have a 1932 Ford roadster hot rod and I've had my fair shares of break downs. usually they get fixed in a hotel parking lot or on the side of the road. you can actually see my last one that is on the Bay Area Roadsters web site in Gallary Tahoe Run. The front wheel bearing went out and it was fixed in the motel parking lot.
All part of the fun of driving older vehicles. It also adds to the memory of the trip. I found your photo, great to see so many people helping/watching.
Glad to see your MG being used, my biggest trip in mine was to drive it 2000 miles to Varna in Bulgaria we had a few issues along the way as you would imagine, the worst was a sticking dynamo so the battery kept de charging from time to time, when we noticed as it has a charge gauge installed thankfully we would stop, pop the bonnet tap it with a hammer and bingo charging again. This was replaced in the end in Bulgaria with one from an old Russian lorry works a treat. Keep posting.
Thank you, great to come up with solutions to problems. Plenty more to come from us.
Love your videos they are very helpful. Would it be possible to explain what and why you are doing things and the tools you are using so I might get an idea of what to use why and when. Really brilliant content, thank you for sharing your knowledge 👍🏼
Thank you for your comment, I take it you mean in future videos? It is something I need to do, be more informative as well as entertaining
@ yes please. Just for example, I didn’t know that you could use a socket to hit the tight joint to remove it. I thought you were using a punch so a socket is clever 👌 I like all your videos and they give confidence to have a go yourself, I’m a beginner 👍
You use a socket of similar size to the u/j to spread the load over the surface, you can also use a larger one on the other side to drive the bearing cup into.
Brought back memories when you said 'soon find out when it's smashed off'... oh those were the days lol. Great video, keep them coming.
I didn’t mention it in the video but I did change that one around because I think the grease would have smashed off. All these skills today we learnt together years ago.
Great job Richard! 👍🏻 Another very helpful and enjoyable video, thank you very much for sharing! 😊
Thank you, really pleased you enjoyed it
@@themustardmidgetAlways!! 😊
Ahh full choke, remember that boys and girls.
We don’t have to have it on full choke for long
Lovely people, I wish you well.
Thank you.
Very nice trip. Cheers Bob
Thank you it was. Loved it.
Caleron? No peeps, Caerleon is pronounced carleeon. Good luck with the rest of Wales because the further North you go the harder it gets. Try LLanfairpwllgyygyll on Anglesey - and that's only half of it.
Sorry about the mispronunciation, something to work on in future videos. We will definitely be traveling more of Wales. Loved it.
@@themustardmidget Don't worry about it, I'm a long in the tooth Welsh man but still struggle to get my tongue around unfamiliar Welsh place names. for example there is no 'v' in Welsh so 'f' is used instead, trouble is sometimes it is pronounced as 'f' but other times it is a 'v' sound - aarrrggg!
Alright so im the paragraph guy 2:38 "Ker-Lare-Um" Its "Ker-Lee-Un" also that black cat you spotted her name is Molly she lives at one of the local houses but the she spends most of her days at the museum, the museum called her Spartapus of course referencing the famous Spartacus from ancient Roman times
Thank you for letting us know a bit more about Molly. We had misguided info on pronunciation of Caerleon before
@themustardmidget ah right OK 👍
A great tiny car😀👍
Thank you, we do have to travel light
@@themustardmidget I know how you feel, I run a Caterhan Seven!🤣
As an MG(B) owner and motorcyclist I have to say you miss so much of the world around you by being sat so low, in a lot of the country all you get is a close up view of walls and hedges.
But with the roof down or a crash helmet on you get to smell so much more of what is around you.
Lovely video lovely couple lovely mg my late brother had one British racing I had triumph spitfire good old days we will never get them back 😊
Thank you, I hope we can do our part to keep your memories of this car’s era alive
Great video, and excellent bird photos.
Thank you. To see more of Dawn’s photography check out her website in description
@@themustardmidget I'll do that.
Hi Dawn and Richard! Hope all is well and thank you for preparing and sharing another enjoyable video! 😊 Great to hear the mustard midget covered so many trouble free miles! Best wishes, K
Hi Kevin, thank you, we are glad you enjoy them. Best wishes R and D
My 1966 Austin Healey Sprite used to let in water through the floor. It was rotten through the cills & floor... 😂
It is something we need to investigate, something on the inner wheel arch I suspect.
Well done. I wonder how many miles you covered on the trip?
Not far off 900 in a week, I forgot to log it. Something my Dad did religiously, but I afraid I am not that good at. From now on I will record it.
Fantastic video guys 😁👍
Thank you , glad you liked it.
What a great day out! I will have to look out for this event next year. Hopefully, the weather will be better! Some very nice cars featured! 👍
It is a great day out. Keep an eye on Facebook to get details of booking in. This is this years link. facebook.com/events/s/diss-heritage-triangle-festiva/1119090892570703/
Look out for three great frogeye (bugeye) sprites.
Great to see these three along with the later Sprite! Keep the videos coming.
As a Midget 1500 owner I love your videos! Could you show us how your numberplates are attached in the front and rear? Cheers!
Hi, yes I will do a short video and let you know when posted.
Welcome back, nice to see you.
Sorry it’s been awhile, more coming soon. Welsh trip planned
I haven't been to Aldeburgh for ages. Looks like you had a great day out! Your MG is looking wonderful!
Gets really busy in the summer. But I guess that means lots of people love it too.
Super video 😀 makes me want to drive to the sea side and eat ice cream 🍦 now.
You should do that, come this way and we’ll meet up
Massively labor intensive! I think I'll just wire brush mine and rattle can with black auto lacquer like I did the suspension parts. I could mask one, but four or five? Fughedaboudit!
It did take a long time, the thing I should have done is treated the rust, it is showing through in some places
I can empathize with the filming while working challenges. The most frustrating times are when you think you've filmed a task only to discover that your mic wasn't charged up or, worse yet, you forgot to turn on the camera!! There's been more than one occasion where I've had to reassemble something to re-film taking it apart!!! Keep up the great work... both on the car and the videos.
I have done the reassemble some parts to film again, see heater valve, only to not show exactly how tight the bolts were.
super video love the time laps part.
Thank you, I wasn’t sure it would work, but I think , like you, it does.
Enjoyable video, much appreciated… Filming as you work tends to make the job much longer as you position the camera for the shot, review, adjust etc… Thanks for persevering with it 👍🙏
Thank you, each time I make a video I am thinking of ways to film while getting on with it. This time I added more light.
More of Dawn driving please
Yes plenty more of Dawn driving to come in the future.
Love your positive attitudes throughout the ordeal and the ingenuity shown in the repair. Lovely car.
Thank you, I did have a moment of ‘is this going to halt our holiday plans’ but all good in the end.
Love your channel and would like to see more of both of you driving 🤗
More to come, thank you for your lovely comments
More dawn driving
Your not short :-) just cars long
I want to see more of Dawn driving.
Thank you , Plenty more of Dawn to follow
Nice 😂 I have a blue one but my wife can’t drive 🤪
But she does go out for drives with you I take it.
Hey Dawn and Richard, Thank you for posting another enjoyable video! 😊 For ages I have been thinking about how to mount my iPhone to look at google maps for those longer drives……your as always helpful video has answered my question, I never thought to mount there, thanks very much guys! 👍🏻
Glad to help, funny how we spot those almost life change things when we least expect them. Thank you for your comment.
Hi again Dawn and Richard, Hope all is well. Since my last message to you both I have ordered and returned four phone holders as the suction cups were too big to fit on the small space available where you mounted your holder. By slim chance then do you know the make and where you purchased your phone holder please? Many thanks and kind regards, Kevin
Hi Kevin, the piece that is stuck to the dash is a 3m sticky mount I that came with my Beeline motorcycle navigator. beeline.co/products/beeline-moto-sticky-pad-mount, The rest is a spring clip phone holder. I hope that helps. Richard
@@themustardmidget Hi Richard, Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, find the link and share with me 😊 this helps a lot and I will place an order. I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks again and best regards, Kevin
Classic cars makes: Drivers be drivers and get the feeling of driving. Modern cars makes: Drivers not driving with mental (distractions), low mental engagement (automation reliance on parking, staying on your lane, auto cruise control) and becoming more a passenger than a driver.
That is very very true
That is very very true
I know you will never please everyone but I would prefer less music and to hear the car. But at least for Dawn’s sake this is the more modern version with the Triumph engine and all synchro gearbox, the older A-series with no synchro on 1st were more fun to get used to, especially remembering to stop completely before trying to find first!
Thank you , I place music in when the sound pickup has been poor, looking in to a mic dedicated to the engine with less wind.
Just stumbled across your channel and what a delightful little video, car and, if I may be so bold, driver. So yes, more of Dawn driving please.
Thank you. More Dawn coming soon, oh and more of the Midget too.
Driving a classic just seems to transport you back to another time. It's a nostalgia trip.
Thank you , back to a simpler time when it’s about the journey not the destination, we love it.
Nice to see a girl involved with car programs .
Thank you, Must show all of you how Dawn is involved with trips out and larger repair jobs.
Yep, I encourage my wife to drive our Midget on a pretty frequent basis. She does well behind the wheel but is always nervous about it. For quite a while, the photo I took of her while she was driving across New York state was her Facebook profile. As far as your poll, I'd say a mix of each of you driving is a good path. Either way, have the car out and enjoy your adventures together! Safety Fast!
Thank you , going to be a mix because I would miss driving it, but I think I might have to fight to get the keys from now on.
It doesn't matter who is driving, Richard is not a great passenger (and I've known him for many, many, many years!). Great video as usual 👍
I think I must be calmer lately, Dawn very cautious as brakes not as good as her VW Up
Brilliant video guys. Very smooth Dawn, the MG definitely suits you and you add glamour and panache to the car. Richard I think we should see more of Dawn behind the wheel and an in depth assessment of what she thinks of the ergonomics of an old car and brakes and gear changes etc. Well done both of you 👍
Thank you, sounds like a great idea for another film. Dawn is very pleased with your comments, just when I thought I was the glamorous one. 👍
Dawn driving.
Definitely more of Dawn driving to follow, thank you for your feedback
@@themustardmidget my pleasure. I imagine you both cannot wait for better weather so that you can have the top down.
Definitely better with the top down, unless your on the Motorway headings for Dumfries and it starts to rain
Should your temperature gauge also display oil pressure?
No we just have a green light for oil pressure, think earlier ones had the guage
I also had problems with the wipers not parking. Needed a new parking switch
I didn’t realise that white block was actually the park switch until speaking with my friend Kevin
I have this problem too, and need to get on it. But an entirely different switch and dashboard.
Is yours older, older ones have a disc in the top of the motor, check out morris minor wipers
I think I have the same issue, it's a very small leak but I noticed it because it was leaking on the exhaust. Very helpful video!
Glad you found it useful.
I love your videos; very entertaining. I grew up in Lancaster and my uncle drove MGs and Jags. Today I live in the USA and drive a Mazda MX5. Sports car fun!
Thank you, we are very pleased you enjoy them as much as we love making them. Are you in a warm part of USA?
