A little spinning top, made on my old Myford lathe, from a stainless bolt and some scrap brass. The bolts are A4 steel, which is equivalent to 316 stainless steel. The threads on the bolt are removed to create a smooth shaft. The shaft is slightly thicker than 8mm to be press fitted into a 8mm reamed hole in the brass. A simple mechanism for keeping the door open. Made from various metal scraps, including mystery stainless steel, brass, bronze and PTFE plastic. The round parts are turned on an old Myford lathe with a Rocketronics ELS (Electronic lead screw) The flat parts are milled on a small Wabeco bench top milling machine.

Using a sharp chisel on a piece of birch produces some surprisingly cool shavings when hitting the wood fibers at just the right angle.
