1981 Contessa 39
Hi Everyone!
After over a year of driving/sailing other peoples boats and accumulating 10000 miles of ocean crossings, offshore, and coastal cruising, I came across an older sailboat that caught my eye. Now I am the proud owner of a rare 1981 Contessa 39. I will continue to post progress of getting back in the water/sailing and future plans.
FYI:
These were hand built in Hampshire, England by Jeremy Rogers Ltd; the founder and creator of Contessa yachts.
The design comes from the mind of Doug Peterson, the legendary yacht designer from Southern California.

    • @BRP_USA
      @BRP_USA 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't had any roof issues since new. I only went up there 3-4 time since purchase and only when when needed. Here's the thing, every time, you walk around on the roof membrane - be as tender as possible and don't twist your steps or pivot or stomp....go in your socks if possible of bare feet. Otherwise, the factory does a good job from what I see. You should call the factory and ask the service folks,,,they always answer and will give you good advice on maintaining the roof. If you buy a used one - make sure your do your due diligence and look at everything - ask questions.

      Ramp seal hold up well for travel and cold. The lowere corners can get a bit drafty at 30 degrees. I've put down draft tubes in the corners for that. I've not spent a winter in North Dakota, so can't say much about the seal in SUPER cold temps.

    Hi there. Love your review. Honestly how do they pull ? We are purchasing one as we speak. We have a one ton f350. Heard they may sway a lot especially in windy conditions. Thanks in advance

    • @BRP_USA
      @BRP_USA ปีที่แล้ว

      Compared to other manufacturers, ORV trailers pull very comfortably and get high marks for towing. That said, EVERY trailer will sway in windy conditions... As a driver Situational Awareness is a constant when you are towing or even just driving to the store without a trailer. Be vigilante of what is happening around you at all times and don't get in a hurry. One of my mantras is "Shit doesn't just happen - you make shit happen" Invest in a good weight distributing hitch, and consider installing airbags. These are key for a bumper pull that is as heavy a the TRX. These will stabilize and level the weight across all axles..(even your 1 ton will squat several inches when you hook up....)

    Another nice video. I’ve been considering one of these. Two things the brand does that I’m not thrilled with would be luan backing behind the fiberglass, and the Zamp charge controller and it’s mount location. Not sure Azdel is the magic cure for delamination long term, but I’ve seen luan break down and separate even with no sign of water entry. Many RVs die from neglect, but widespread delamination seems to be the unrepairable problem that totals cared for units. Solar wise, I’d expect Victron MPPT with blue tooth on something of this price range. As I understand, Outdoors RV is looking to upgrade. Hopefully they mount the charger close to the battery bank for maximum efficiency and put the remote over by the rest of the interior controls.

    wish they had solar on the roof, 12V air conditioning, and Starlink-ready! and don't like that the ORV manuals say 'not for permanent residence' even though the appearance is that it's a 4-season that you could live in.

    • @BRP_USA
      @BRP_USA ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for checking in Jason. Sounds like you are interested. IMHO ....It really is more than appearance. I wouldn't compare it to a ski lodge but they did a pretty good job putting these together. Truth is, no manufacturer of travel trailers/toy haulers would claim "permanent residence"ready; just too much liability, among other things. Solar is included with most ORV models. Along with a cummins gen-set, mine came with 170 watt panel, 30 amp inverter, and wiring in the roof for at least 2 more panels as well as aux plug for external panels....I'm good for nearly 100 amp hours on the 2 AGMs. I'm sure you could pay someone to install it for you though. Hope you enjoy whatever you end up getting in to.

    Of course you can ride your bike here in California. You did it all legal where you live, so it's honored. California residents are required to register their vehicles here. Folks have tried to get out of state registration in states like Vermont that will do it all through the mail for a small fee... then try to transfer that into a California plate. That's not going to work. But I just might know a few guys that have Vermont plated bikes running around here :) If you're just connecting trail you'd probably never have any trouble.

    • @BRP_USA
      @BRP_USA ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. A lot of folks may not understand that once it's been reg/title/plated you can take it anywhere in the world and ride it legally. "Resale" to a resident of (ie) CA/OR/WA or state/country with stricter controls, may have a problem with registering as street legal. Being an MT resident, it's never been a concern.

  • @donaldblank8873
    @donaldblank8873 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BRP_USA
      @BRP_USA ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't sure if you could modify a dirt bike to street legal status in OR> It would not be legal for you as a resident/ to modify a dirt bike and legally title and plate. Since, it was registered and title as street legal in MT, it's not an issue and legal to operate in any state.

      Not true for him. If he's stopped and can show his Montana driver's license they have to honor it. They can nit-pick about DOT compliance issues if he has incorrect tires on it, or maybe he forgot to turn his mirror upright while he was connecting trails. But a Montana resident can ride that bike in all 50 states.
