Fly Fishing for Carp in Pennsylvania

Playing around with the GoPRO . If you use full screen mode you can see the carp take the fly and that I also missed a striping guide with the line . Carp was caught on Montana's hybrid fly .

Fly Fishing for Carp and miserably striking out
Any chance you'll do a tutorial on how to setup your basic fly rod for snake head? And any possibility you'll come down to Florida to hunt Bullseye Snakehead? Or do tutorial on flies you use and tie, tips, techniques, etc? I used to fish for snakehead in maryland (spinning), relocated to Florida (but not to Miami, which is where Bullseye Snakes are), but still want to get into fly fishing for snakeheads.

I’m just cracking up seeing them all fall between your legs
arnt SnakeHead still considers invasive in most waters and required to be killed instead of released ? [ i know they are in my area]
What state do you live in ?
@freddewfishing7611 Maryland. Last I check MD, VA , PA and WV all had kill orders for snakehead. Though admittedly, last I checked speciflcly for then was a year or more ago , I've mostly been in trout / smallmouth territory lately
Just upgraded from my “beginner” kayak (Tammarack Angler-served me well) to a NuCanoe U10. Heading out with the fly rod this Friday. Hope I have 1/10th the success you do. Great videos!
Thanks, good luck
Nice one
Thanks 🔥
Such good videos for people to watch and learn from. Thank You!
Glad you like them!
Do you always blind cast for them or do you sight fish for them when they come up for air then cast to them?
I sight and blind cast for them
would i be good with a 8 wt rod and reel with 2x leader im new to fly fishing and it has been a headache at times
8 will work but I’d go at least 20 for tippet , I use 25lb
That fish you played with at the 8 minute mark is a relatable situation. Hate when they come right up to it, and even nudge the fly, but don't eat!
They can be real curious sometimes
Dude awesome stuff! 🐍
Thanks! 😁
Hell yeah what size popper are you using
Size medium howitzer
Watching from india 🎉
Thanks for watching
What rod is that
Sage peacock bass rod
Subbed and great video , would love to make a trip to do this. What fly are you using in heavy cover? We need more flies that ride hook points up like a hollow body frog.
If you go to my Facebook group fly fishing for snakeheads and bowfin I have a sbs of one of the weedless flies in use in this video pinned to the top .
Love seeing people fly fish for snakeheads. Just subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
You’re the snake whisperer! Dang man well done. Still using that big frog fly from your other video or have you changed it up?
If you go to my Facebook group fly fishing for snakeheads and bowfin I have a sbs of one of my frog pattern’s pinned to the top .
@@freddewfishing7611 right on I’ll check that out. We’ve got bowfin where I live so I’m intrigued to learn more about it. Cheers!
Amazing fishing ♥️ ❤
Thanks
PUT THIS MAN IN THE REPTILE HOUSE AT THE ZOO! So many damn snakes!!!
Always wanted to be a zoo keeper
Would you say you fish the 10wt more than an 8wt when going after snakehead?
In the summer I always go with the 10wt I will use a 8 in the spring when they are slower and there is less cover around for them to snag you on .
I’m using a 9 for now. I Guess if I get abused enough, I’ll step up to my 10 wt.
@@freddewfishing7611 as a non-fly-fisherman (most I've done is flt-fish for bass and bluegill), what kind of leader do you use for fly-fishing for snakehead? Normally I use braid to the Bangkok hooker leader on a baitcaster setup, but I'd like to try fly-fishing for snakes.
@@marcustorres6744 I use 25 lb fluro and 8’ long
I love those horizontal attacks
Always visual
I've heard those are good eating. It's good when an invasive species is good table fare.
Man, that looked like you were about to highstick that flyrod Into a bunch of extra pieces
That hydrilla was 3feet thick ?
The fly 🐍 king himself! Had some good eats in there too bro, let's see what 2024 will be like 😏🤞🏾
Going to be a good year
Dammmn!!!
Yes sir
Just swinging an 8'+ flyrod from a kayak next to a thicket while sitting down alone rates as an impressive accomplishment. Pulling in a nice snakehead is, well, even more impressive.
I've heard those snakeheads are good eating.
I can confirm they are
Them are dilish my mouth was watering. I'm on a diet tho....
Is that a double barrel popper rigged slider style? What hook size? Thanks
Check out my Facebook group fly fishing for snakeheads and bowfin there is step by step instructions pinned to the top of the page .
Nice collection, Fred. I had missed some of these throughout the year.
Thanks Ed
What size of tippet do you use? thanks!
Anywhere from 20 to 30 is good, I use 25 .
@@freddewfishing7611 25 LB? That's thick! Do you make your own custom leader? Thanks!
@@Cute_index just a straight shot of 25 lb about 8-9’ in length they are extremely strong and always live in heavy cover and you have to horse them out .
@@freddewfishing7611 That's informative! Thanks!
Where in the US are you guys. Nice work
awesome as always buddy
Appreciate it
What part of the everglades are you at in this video?
I’m in the mid Atlantic
Ballsy sticking ur fingers in its mouth lol. Easily coulda bit down and death rolled
Lol that fish flop was funny, I saw it coming! And best snakehead angler on the Fly I know 💯💯
You know it 👊🏼
Great video Fred. You're a beast. 🎣🎣
Thanks bud
Good job
Thanks 🙏
what wt rod you use for carp??
I like a 10’ 7wt the longer reach makes stalking and dapping your fly right in front of them so much easier
@@freddewfishing7611 thanks man!
your footage is epic. subbed.
Thanks
that was epic. do u think it was the same fish that kept comming back?
I believe so
Lovely video! What setup do you use? I'm looking to get into fly fishing snakehead here in India! We have 3 native species to go after - Channa marulius, Channa pseudomarulius and Channa diplograma
I like to use a short 10 wt and a floating line made to chuck big flies
learn to strip set dummy
Thanks for tip
I hate when guides call it a trout set. I’m a bass angler! It’s a bass set, damn you.
Holy cow that fish straightened that hook! Great job landing it out of the thick salad on a fly rod. Impressive bro!
Yeah they are an extremely powerful fish
Been there Fred, but that was pretty cool getting that close.
Yeah I couldn’t believe it
Is the orange bead to serve as a sort of rattle?
It’s used to deflect weeds from your hook eye but I do sometimes use the beads with the rattle in them .
do you typically cast from a seated or standing position? Does it tend to want to form a tailing loop?
I try to stay seated as much as possible to get closer to the fish , it takes getting used to but I don’t have any problems casting with the sector or my 7’11” sage bass rod
Great channel here, awesome takes, new sub 👏
Hey dood, solid vid! Any tips on topwater flies for snakes? I heard hook-point up, but any patterns or 'names' of flies I should check out?
Now this frog may look different than any other you have seen but trust me this will catch you some fish . This any the other frog sold on this site are the only top water flies I fish that I don’t tie myself. www.cghcustomtackle.com/product-page/double-dipper-weedless-frog-fly-large
@@freddewfishing7611 thanks man! Will give it a look
Being up and across is making it hard on you. Try drifting down and cast up to em.
What state are you catching them in? Also, I’ve been thinking about getting a new rod, what do you recommend?
Nice fish by the way, that first one demolished that hook
I would get a 9 wt saltwater fly rod with good power to pull fish out of cover
Nice video, Fred. I think I sensed disappointment when you reeled in a nice bass.
Couldn’t hide that one
