There were no militaries before Medieval era? What did Rome use to conquer its territories?
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately your question is way outside of my expertise.
Medieval institutions? What about the old Greeks?
Thanks for watching @dendanny!

This was really helpful! Thank you so much!!
My pleasure!
it is interesting to hear how to help people in crisis; I am now very excited to read the research and the work in more detail. I was hoping to hear more about "the helper". In other words, how does the "helper" feel while helping people in crisis? what can we do to help the "the helper" more while helping people in crisis? you know, sometimes, I find it difficult to navigate between the heart and head space. Helpers frequently juggle an emotional balance between the heart and head, struggling to stay empathetic while also remaining composed and objective. This balancing act can be draining, especially in intense situations where emotions run high
I couldn’t agree more that it’s important to help the helper. We talk about this some in this and the next episode, mostly around the distress processing model. I’m finishing up a paper right now that more directly addresses helping the helper. In short: if we reduce unrealistic expectations helpers experience and prioritize being present with clients, they will experience less distress when working with suicidal clients.
Hey! This has been really helpful, if possible could you do an episode with an international student and what their journey has been like? As a student from India, I have been finding it very difficult to apply to graduate programs in Canada due to the educational difference. and if you have any knowledge could you please tell me if there is any con of being an international student when you review grad applications, like does being an international student put me at a disadvantage?
That's a great idea! I know some Indian grad students, so I'll see if anyone is willing. Applying from education systems that have notable differences does bring challenges. I will say that my university does help some with making sense of some of the differences. At the same time, if there are ways that you can clarify any differences, that can be helpful. All that being said, don't get in your head too much about it -- just apply!
