A friend and I would prepare for the zombie apocalypse we were so sure was coming, we would list all the stuff we'd need and draw maps of where we'd go.. Better times.
Better and simpler times. Gets harder and harder to find time to goof around and have fun like that.
@NuttyDavid this post was a nice touch of reality, kinda odd it doesn't have more attention, surely we can't be the only ones to miss this
Thank you. I hope to be able to provide some more genuine moments in time in future clips/vids. I find TH-cam kind of just skips over my stuff sometimes. That's okay though because I can still have moments like the one I had with you in the comments. I'm not really looking for too much attention or anything. Just looking to make some connections out in the wild and share some wholesome/entertaining things.

Yes sir. I'll be getting a bit organized soon to start hopefully having people help me out. Been really busy with out of town work lately (flying around in helicopters).

My pillows are always warm now after making this abomination of a cover photo. I also seem to have permanent diarrhea...
Excited for you to get back to game dev! I've been using Unreal engine and learning to use blender. I have really, really worked hard to flesh out the idea and gameplay of my Vigilante Simulator and would loooooooove to tell you about the realistic scope of the single player and multiplayer aspects of it...
I will be getting back into the swing of things again. Took a lil break to just make this video and I have been slowly getting my life back together and have some new IRL ventures I am working on. Unreal Engine and Blender can be really rewarding but also time consuming. I remember spending lots of time to make simple objects. Unreal is powerful though. Your game sounds pretty cool. Whats the premise?

Invasion is outright unplayable, I'm getting the unplayable lag spikes playing from Europe, on Europe servers. Which usually gives me 40-75 ping in games that have actual servers.
The NA servers are unplayable for me still. I somehow get better pung in EU but im still at 100+
@@NuttyDavid the game can't handle invasion going on on a big map with that many people at all. I do get shitty connection sometimes even on duel servers but it's night and day between invasion and deathmatch servers.
I went down the longest Godot rabbit hole the last 4 hours and I'm even more excited for the Day 17!!!!
Hell yeah. its a pretty simple engine to use at the moment. I want to add local co-op so we will see how that goes in the future. Day 17 will most likely be about combo-able attack chains once i finalize that. Im away from computer for the next two weeks. Hanging out with family as my lil bro is getting married.
Have you seen Rosebud ai for creating sprite sheets? David, I wrote my 2nd book in 2021 and I want to make a fighting game based on it. When I saw such a skilled MORDHAU player working on gaming and making a fighting game, I knew this was going to be an amazing series. Have you thought about how to make the box "degrade" or switch sprites so it looks beat up with damage taken? How about it breaks, flashes, and disappears and leaves behind loot? As a kid I loved Double Dragon and Sword of Sodan, Altered Beast, and others... Other modern games with amazing combat is Sleeping Dragons, and, before that, there was another kung-fu cop game, but I forget the name. It had amazing physics and you could approach missions however you want,. like breaking up game meetings by driving your car through the window, jumping out, and beating everyone up with the environment! Do you have any favourite fighting games?
I havent seen that one yet. I am curious if for more simple objects or destructibles if i can use something that can generate sheets for me. I would love an AI that could take my basic designs and sheets and build something HD. Thank you for Mordhau compliment. I never thought I was good at the time but i think i practiced enough to be above average. I want to modify my destructibles to degrade on hit. which i think will be swapping out sprites. Not sure how to trick the animation player to adjust frames unless i just have it play a new idle animation on hit. Im not even sure i need an animation player anymore so it might just be making diff sprites visible/invisible. I want my destructibles to sometimes drop a bomb or enemy on top of loot. So hitting and breaking destructibles will always have a risk reward feel to it for added fun and suspense. I played lots of diff fighting games on SNES and still own the cartdriges. Double Dragon, TMNT and Battletoads comes to mind. They are all amazing in their own ways. Also street fighter and Super Smash were lit.
Congrats on the 2nd book. I am thinking about righting a book on Emotions and how they change your perception of existance. Starting with the ones we consider negative and moving up in a heirarchy to the ones we might consider best. More of a book on philosophy. Cant wait to see your game on action.
I am loving this series!!!
Thank you. I am hoping to be deeper into finishing this game before i start having kids. Going to try to sprinkle some gaming vids in again.

Yo... Maybe I can work on my game sooner than I thought if AI is this useful already
Its definitely sped me up a bunch already. My next video ill release it definitely led me a stary a little bit but had me in the right ballpark.
I see you've angered the anti-AI mob... Keep it up Dave! Ignore the haters, it's a tool that should be utilized by smaller devs who lack manpower. It's not like you are stealing jobs or something using it. Just remember if it codes for you, you don't technically "own" the code so it may not be protected by copyright.
The most interesting thing i have been using it for is refactoring and using it as a search engine. It has been really good at pointing me in the right direction. The coolest part was I programmed a section and wasn't sure if i did things "right". AI spat out the same code i wrote. It seems to be good at just understanding the API and logically putting things together. I'm not sure its crowdsourcing programming like it does with artistic endeavors. But yeah i did get hit with a few dislikes on this vid compared to my others which are cleanly at 100% likes.
@@NuttyDavid ChatGPT has been really useful for giving me advice on my hobbies, particularly Nerf modifications and helping me find the right products for the job I need, and how to actually use those products effectively. When not stealing the job of creatives it's just Google on crack
Yeah I'm not a big fan of it stealing creative works of art to amalgamate some AI abomination. From a Google on crack perspective for information gathering it is such a time saver. Especially when it comes to some programming issues it being able to understand the logic behind publicly available API's and documentation and construct a general idea of how to solve your programming problem it seems to be good as well. I don't consider that a crime against humanity as much as the art stealing but rather just I have tasked a worker to go out and figure out how to put building blocks together for me based off information that is publicly available. In the same fashion that I would have to spend time doing anyway.
@@NuttyDavid I think the fact they stole most of their data and have the gall to demand $20 a month for the best version pisses me off, and it pisses me off more than I'll probably pay for it a soon as I can afford it
Hey, I've been using Chat GPT for the last couple of years. For me, I've found I do better if I don't use it for coding at all. Be careful relying on AI too heavily. It'll definitely hamper your long term progress if you aren't understanding what you are coding. The AI will fall apart very quickly once you start working on more complex problems. If you really need to use it, make sure to question everything it gives you and why, it will absolutely get you into a bad situation where you've got a complicated project with no way to progress. Best of luck!
GREETINGS.
Why hello there

Dude, you're doing something right as you popped up in my feed! Really like the open dev rundown of what you are working on. I like that diagonal attack mechanism you mentioned around 8:30. My feedback would be what if the player moved towards the closet object, say a box, or enemy. I see the boxes as being breakable, and by mashing, you can create a destructive maniac feeling. Thats all from me, best of luck!
Thank you very much. The attack moving to closest enemy or "attackable" is genius big brain stuff. I will definitely work on attempting to add that. I want to have lots of destructible. I always loved just blowing up vases in Legend of Zelda. I am hoping to add some risk reward mechanics into my destructible objects. Sometimes they drop items/coins, other times enemies or bombs muahaha

Are you setting swing back to false after you swing? My guess is your Walk animation is retriggering your swing because swing is true still.
I figured it out after this comment. I'll make a video tonight showcasing what the issue was.. as well as my next steps on designing attack interrupts and combos for some moves.
This game is hard when fighting in the Frey but one on one is where I feel combat is most balanced. I can’t hit shit but my team in the midst of huge battles
It can be really hard to line fight with a team in this game. Overheads, underhands and stabs help.

@@NuttyDavid ...
@@NuttyDavid I was just kidding
Have you tried asking AI for help? There's gotta be a tutorial somewhere!
I have been reading more and more posts online about using AI to get some psuedo code that can be easily cleaned up to accomplish what you ask. I think in this case I'm not even sure what questions to ask. I'm trying to create a stacked animation I think but doing something a little goofy that I think most people wouldn't recommend. Lots of the guides I have watched seem to be somewhere in-between what I am trying to do with my layering of animations. I could just be slow on the uptake of understanding what others are doing though haha
@@NuttyDavid Once you "get it" the process will start flowing so fast. Don't give up! Your struggles will insp;ire me because there are several AMAZING games from my childhood that I want to re-create with a modern engine...
Game dev is as challenging as it is rewarding. Keep at it bro!!
That's the plan!
While it is easier to have individual sprite sheets at first, it becomes cumbersome once you have a lot of different animated things. If you have a bunch of different sprites you're managing, like different objects, then each one is loaded into memory, so if your peanut has 8 animations, that's 8 sprite sheets with memory overhead for each. All that being said, we live in the age of pocket super computers, so you likely will not encounter slow downs because of a bunch of low resolution pixel art.
I was thinking about that perspective the other day. If I have all these image files being loaded in... what is the memory overhead for that. I took a look and my one sprite sheet was 492 bytes so not horrible on the memory allocation. I am curious as to how bad it would get though from a drive perspective of potentially loading images in and out of a level.
don't worry man just trust the process
We will get there slowly but surely.
this is nuts bro
