ZMF-II Gameclock with Byo-yomi setting
This video is meant to show the functionality of the byo-yomi setting on the ZMF-II Gameclock by ZMartFun. This clock is meant for chess, scrabble, and Go/baduk/weiqi. The clock is set to 1-min main time with three 15-sec byo-yomi periods (1m, 15s x3).
Sorry, there is no audio. The beep is very subtle and abrupt, not at all unpleasant. Please see a different video to listen to the sound.

    I just bought the stones online from a sort of shop that sells used japanese stuff. How do I know what materials were used for the stones and the bowls? They're pretty old, the bowls are no longer shiny, but they're still pretty whole, no cracks or anything like that, but some of the stones are chipped. The inside of the bowls have powder on the surface, from I guess the stones being in there for a long while. The white stones have lines too, but they don't seem to be tha same as those that you have.

Congrats on your find. :) I’d say your best bet is to take the most detailed photos you can and post them on Reddit r/baduk, there is also a large facebook group you can share to. Might be a little late but do the lacquered lines make the stones rest weirdly on the board?

    • @Kelieon
      @Kelieon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! The lacquer is slightly raised off the board and can cause stones to tilt slightly, but in games I haven’t really noticed it and it hasn’t been a problem.

    • @Kelieon

      No, only if you drop them! I use part of the bubble wrap from this set to pad the bottom of the bowl, as well as fill the extra space with more bubble wrap in case I travel. So the stones move around minimally . :)

    Nice video hopefully I'll be buying the 36 blue label snow grade wish could afford the legit snow grade.

    • @Kelieon
      @Kelieon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Minyard Thanks! The blue label grade is totally worth it, IMO! I bought a nicer set after this, blue label snow grade 32mm, very nice! You save a lot of money for a small amount of quality. Though the quality still exists. :) In the video is not snow grade, though I like it more I think.

      @@Kelieon why do like regular blue label more than snow grade?

    • @Kelieon
      @Kelieon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Minyard I like the depth and thickness of the transparent parts of the shell of a blossom grade. It’s very beautiful and striking. The snow grade stones are just more rare and consistent, which makes them more expensive. Some people find snow grade to be less distracting from the game as well, while still very beautiful.

    • @chrisminyard8830
      @chrisminyard8830 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah okay, yea I really like seeing striations in the shell but I can see it being distracting at first. As for thickness I love handling size 36 I'm bit spoiled because it not going be cheap it be over $1k for what I want lol. Thanks!

    • @Kelieon
      @Kelieon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Minyard Haha, very trie! Size 32 was hitting my wallet pretty hard, but still they have a wonderful heft and feel. I haven’t had the pleasure of using size 36 stones though, so expensive! Maybe some day after I buy a house and have a floor goban with legs. :P

    For those of you who are curious. their Go boards for table alone at 2-3" thickness are over $200 at least normally. Stones of that size will run you over $300 sometimes and the set he got had to be at least $400. What did you pay man>? It had to be crazy expensive like mine. Did you get Sakura or Snow grade stones?

    • @Kelieon
      @Kelieon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome! I'm glad you loved your set too! Total I paid about $360 for this set with shipping, it was a great deal! These stones are the size 31 blue label, so a mix and not premium stones. I later ordered some size 32 snow grade blue label, which I LOVE! A bit more expensive though.

      Chris -- what is your rank right now? I'm a recovering 1 Dan. I didn't play for 2 years plus and have recovered to about 4k right now. I've totally lost my timing and the little reading skills I used to have. The many Faces of Go program I used to have trained me up to 1 dan in under a year. I did so much Go homework I ranked up to Shodan in about 7 months. I would go on KGS and crush 3k's by 20, then get challenged by 1 Dans and win about half the time. What kind of player are you? Right now I'm a moyo player who likes to get huge frameworks going. I used to be a dicey person. My games always wound up with tons of groups running around for both sides regardless of how we opened. Most players can't deal with that kind of game, thus I got the 1 dan ranking by being very hard to deal with.

I got size 32's and a 7 piece Matsudam Kaya board. your header looks nice , just like my board. hahahaha. I got mine from the 100 year anniversary sale also, as a celebration of making 1 dan. Now I haven't played so I'm only 3-4k at the moment, but I'm recovering my strength.

    My Japanese mother in law has a Go board that is about 200 years old . She wanted to play with me and asked me to bring the board to the living room so i went to fetch it on the floor of the Tokonoma and made the stupid move to pick it up . I spent the next hour on the ground screaming in agony , then was brought to the hospital and given mega strong antibiotics and couldn't move for days and couldn't walk for nearly a week . Her board is about 30 kilos and i completely fucked up my back trying to pick it up, thinking it was made of some light wood . To this day i can't see a Go board without feeling a little pain in my back . I like yours it might not be an antique but at least you won't associate it with painful memories. Here is a video of the type she owns for 6 generations , (and yes i know this one is a Shogi board but it looks the same and is made the same way) except hers is way bigger and half made of cast iron for the feet and the bottom part. th-cam.com/video/II45ro33sQ8/w-d-xo.html Beautiful but extremely heavy .

    • @Kelieon
      @Kelieon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Morgan Olfursson Oh wow! I’m sorry you had to go through that! If it was 200 years and of good quality it could have been kaya, which is very dense wood. Especially for a thick table board! This is a very light spruce wood they call “new kaya” because it had a similar grain, but much more plentiful. Also much lighter. :)

    • @morganolfursson2560
      @morganolfursson2560 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the message Chris and for the info,, i had never heard of the term Kaya before . i'll have to look it up . Yes her board is made of extremely dense wood , and even without the iron feet i wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even float . Your is also very beautiful and i am sure that with time it will get a very nice luster and a lot of character especially if you often use it . The stones are absolutely beautiful. This must have cost you a pretty penny . I heard the best ones are made in Mie prefecture , and apparently this is where your stones come from . I am very bad at Go and still learning , but if you ever need help with Japanese or some translation i would be more than happy to oblige . 20 years in Japan, i may not have mastered Go but at least i am not too bad with the speaking and reading . My writing is a bit rusty though , especially since i am Icelandic and left Japan 7 years ago .

      @wangzhe1841 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Walljasper 😂😂😂 I just want to ask the small square of the grid, so that I know whether my current piece would fit this board or not. My chess piece is 25mm, I think ur chess piece diameter is 22mm. I worry the board would not fit for my old chess piece.

    • @Kelieon
