Highlights from the COP28 Presidency attendance of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, and New York Climate Week, as the Presidency mobilized global leaders to advance the UAE Consensus framework for keeping 1.5°C within reach.
Throughout the week, the COP28 President, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, emphasized the economic opportunities presented by three megatrends: a fast evolving transformation of energy systems, the exponential growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the rise of the Global South.
Dr. Al Jaber announced at a high-level event hosted by the COP Presidencies Troika that the UAE will officially submit its third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) before COP29 in Azerbaijan and called on all Parties to be “early movers” by providing concrete indications on their own NDCs by or before the Baku conference, and to deliver “transformational” NDCs backed by investment.
