Mini Split Review 7 to 115 Degrees
I installed 3 mini splits into our house about a year and a half ago to replace an old 5 ton Trane. This past summer it hit 115 degrees, and now this winter it's been down to 7 degrees.

    Very good, i understand it cost alot for a 100 percent secure one, but pretty good. One thong you forgot though is lets say this thing does save you, and lets say all the debri has been knocked every where piled up and you try the open that door and its impossible to open from debri and such. You will absolutely run out of breathable air, you have to make a couple of holes, and install some pvc pipes or even better metal pvc to be safer that lead outside just incas incase. Last thing you want is to survive a tornado but then have not survived being able to breathe

    I wouldnt have had that door outside your shelter door. There is a reason storm shelter doors open to the inside. You get buried with crap all around you and infront of that door its going to be very hard to open to the outside

    so only 240v from that one inverter on the hot and neutral ? would the other inverter remain at 120v and can both inverters run at 120v ?

    • @kc79ta
      @kc79ta หลายเดือนก่อน

      It takes both set-up in split phase for 240. Hot on inverter1 to hot on inverter2. Hot to neutral is only 120v. Yes, both units could be set-up to run at 120v in parallel mode.

    I've been thinking about building a storm room in my basement. We've had a couple of weaker tornados go over our community the last three years and drop into nearby towns. I have a wooded property and the storms topped some of my trees and made a mess of things. My main fear is that a bad storm could bring down some of my very large trees onto our home. I've watched a few videos on storm shelter construction, one being a NEMA, do-it-yourself shelter made of interlocked 2x8's and plywood and other materials. I'm thinking that might be a bit of overkill for our area, but it got me thinking about being more prepared. Thank you for your video. You are obviously a nice man and I admire you building something to protect you and your family. Hopefully, good fortune will keep us both safe from "the big one".

This is probably the best reinforced shelter in his neighborhood if not the only one. Lol. Thanks, and agree. That's why I will never respond to the useless comments written by what sounds like a 12 year old. You are correct, without a basement are chooses were a drywalled closet or tub. We don't have 10k for a F5 rated shelter, so those that would rather jump in the tub it's all theirs.

    I’m going to give my shelter its own concrete with reinforced caged rebar foundation a foot or two below my homes foundation then build up the walls and ceiling in the same manner. What goes together in pieces will come apart in pieces. Vibrate out the air bubbles from the concrete to avoid honey comb formation. Certified tornado shelter steel door. I can even put in concrete benches and shelves inside if we want. It’ll be located near the nose of my garage.

    Don’t listen to these naysayers. There are over 1000 tornadoes a year. Only a handful of F4 or F5. If it’s a F5. No one is safe. This is much better than nothing. This will stop flying debris at F3 F4 speed. Will probably stop handgun. MREs are good to have.

    Well I have a grid tie inverter and I simply put it in non-export mode and it meets all of the loads in my home and if there are no loads in my home it throttles down to zero and never back feeds the grid. And no, I do not have a permit or in interconnection agreement.

    Probably needs about 2 feet of earth on top of it to serve as a fallout shelter; looks like you stack concrete blocks around it to lateral radiation sources. Its a bit small; but surviving is worth any price; well done.

      I have it set so the two inverters only run when the AC kicks in, so it never back feeds. I'm not sure what it would take before the power company would notice.

    Hi Casey. Great informative video. You obviously have a large cross section skill set. As a retired electrician installing his first DIY mini split, I appreciate your skills. Only feedback I might be able to add is that the white wire going to the two-pole breaker in your panel should be re-identified as a current carrying conductor, preferably with red tape. Thanks again...Paul

    As I commented on your other video, I see you decided to do things your own way versus listening to some peoples comments, or even experts in the field. That room would be better off use as a complete safe room versus a storage area combo. I would remove the lock as I’ve seen many clients get locked into their own safety / panic rooms. I would add a fan to circulate the air, first aid kit, some type of eyewash, fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide/ smoke alarm. Small radio, GPS device even without subscription. You can still call for help. And I hope you never have to use that room. A lot of short steps were taken, which I believe can cost someone their life. Best of luck to you .

    I think the difference is how much PV panel watts it can handle. Maybe 1000W inverter can take 1000W input and 1300W inverter can handle 1300W. I have 1200W PV on a 1300W inverter and I do not get much more out of it than you do. Not sure if it is worth all the expense yet.
