Interesting
George Zahorius (sp) was Babe Diedrichson’s husband
Hector Guerrero, the Gobbledy Gooker himself!
Yessir!
Graham looks a whole lot like Randy Orton!!??
😅There are actually several wrestlers who resemble him.
Did not know that Greg The Hammer was a Fargo at one point in his career! You are unlocking some great Trivia. Love to learn this too as it invites Fans to go research some of those awesome Territories back when it seemed everyone had their "fingers in the rasslin pie" and there was enough for all to enjoy! MOO From COW-lumbus
I remember my grandma used to call "The Hammer" one of the Fargo Brothers and I didn't know what she was talking about. Imagine my surprise when I learned she was a ring savvy fan. Yes. It's amazing how many wrestlers traveled the territories.
Great content! I'm new to your channel! I'm excited to see the rest of your work!
Thanks for joining the crew! We hope you enjoy our long form videos and let us know if there's any content you'd like to see covered.
Gotta get that "Superstar" Bill Dundee push in there, huh fellows?😂😂😂
@@brianmills5302 Might have to hit Bill up for some dough. Lol
@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Yeah, right?😊
@@brianmills5302 I know we haven't mentioned Gorilla Monsoon much lately and I think we're only five banana bucks away from getting Gorilla's banana phone. One banana buck for each mention of Gino.😅
@wrestlingsgreatestmoments We've actually had the Gorilla phone conversation b4!😂😂😂 Probably was your point, huh? D'OH!
@@brianmills5302 I believe you are correct, brother.
I loved the Iceman-Brickhouse feud, especially the interviews, that culminated with their match at the oft criticized Superclash 3. I remember when Brickhouse came out of the crowd dressed as a woman to attack Lawler in Memphis and Iceman defeated Kerry to win the WCCW title in the infamous lights out angle involving Gordy,Hayes and Black Bart.I remember the PWI picture capturing Gordy assisting Iceman in the darkness.
I never got to see the feud but it sounds intense. Was the Brickhouse storyline the one where Lawler pulled a (fake) gun on Brown?
@@wrestlingsgreatestmomentsSorry,I didn't obtain the privilege of watching Memphis until tape trading in the 90s and I can't find a reference to the gun angle online, but, knowing Memphis,I wouldn't be surprised if It were a real gun. One would assume He got in trouble with WMC,but knowing the BS artist Lawler was, there was a quick resolution. I wish that the Blackbirds had a longer run when Brickhouse joined Iceman in Devastation,Inc...two of the best talkers of that era, especially Brickhouse, who opined upon various topics on the internet once He'd retired in His own unque way, continuing to impress with His verbal skills and wit.
@@wrestlingsgreatestmomentsLawler pulled an "89 cent toy gun" on Hector Guerrero, which had the usually stoic Lance Russell cracking up.😂
@@edehren3923 Thanks for the info. "Leave it to Lawler"
@@edehren3923 Both wrestlers were hot on the mic. Brown had a great physique too (Iceman was no slouch either).
Is that part of Jarrett/Welch productions?
NWA Mid-America was the Gulas/Welch promotion that Jarrett eventually became involved in and later split off from.
@wrestlingsgreatestmoments to that's always Mid-South. Still bums me out that Lawler and Ferris aren't on speaking terms.
@@tdw5933 Sad to hear. Life is too short.
I feel bad for Andre because it must of been hard to find clothes that fit him people must of stared at him when he was out in public he probably couldn't wrestle very good as he got older
@@LennyVolpicelli-k5i I heard people would gawk at him. I imagine he had everything custom made.
Firpo was psychotic, truly believe it was a shoot!
Never saw Pampero wrestle but he looks like a maniac.
I mostly remember Bob Bradley as a jacked job guy in WWF in the early '80s. I remember him failing in an attempt at Sgt. Slaughter's Cobra Clutch Challenge, which set up Slaughter's feud with Pat Patterson. He was also one of the guys Blackjack Mulligan bloodied up on TV with his Iron Claw, in the days when they put the big red 'X' on the screen every time Mulligan applied the Claw.
Yeah, wasn't Bradley's "push" that he was a power lifter or some such thing? If it's the same guy, writing this while only seeing his pic once and not remembering it😊
Poor Bob never had a chance in WWF. Always enjoyed his work.
If memory serves (a big if) Vince always praised Bradley's powerlifting background.
@@wrestlingsgreatestmoments That's what I thought...
The Baron was wild!Harley & Bob 2 legends amongst legends!💣🔥💯📠
No argument there!
Thank you for always dropping such informative videos! I was mostly watching WWF and JCP/WCW in the 80s so I don't know much about what was happening elsewhere, though I am familiar with all of the wrestlers.
Thanks so much! Let us know if there are any territories or wrestlers you'd like to see covered.
@@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Ox Baker!
Youngblood & Piper goodness!💣🔥
Two favorites!
Well done & looking forward to more! I'm going to see if I can find The Sheepherders vs Piper & Martel. They(Roddy&Rick) probably would've made a killer heel team especially if they stayed together!
Couldn't agree more! They would've been a fantastic heel tandem.
Bill Dundee, closest thing to just not being able to kayfabe him/his record. Let's face it, the original Marko Stunt, just not as capable of high-flying spots.
LOL. Not a fan of Sir William? 😀
@@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Nah, he was just too unbelieveable in the days of giants. Weird body, didn't put over any strength or even, in my opinion, technical skill,, per se, just could never get behind ANY push he may have gotten. Lots of smaller/smallish guys who did WHATEVER they came up with much better skill and determination.
@@brianmills5302 Off hand I don't know where he worked besides Memphis but he probably would have been enhancement talent outside there. I liked that he could bump like crazy and was a good talker. However, I know he's a polarizing wrestler in terms of whether people like or dislike him.
@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Definitely could take a bump!
@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Wasn't he AWA tag champion a couple times? Can't think of his partner, though..."PUFF..." Oh, well, I'm just an old man, you guys between ya will get it real quick, battling a bug and have total brain warp...well, and stuff...😂
Rockers v Brain Busters Rockers v Rougeau Bros Harts v Bulldogs Harts v Demolition Probably not to be considered a fued, but Harts v Brain Busters at SummerSlam 89...... Ho Leeeeee Sheeeeeet!!!
Some great picks! Shows how awesome the 80s was for tag team wrestling.
Larry(Whistler) chose His character's last name as a tribute to Stanislaus.
And I think one of the brothers (or both) trained Harley Race.
@@wrestlingsgreatestmomentsWladek
Bulldogs vs Hart Foundaton/ Road Warriors vs Russians/ Road Warriors vs Powers of Pain/
All fantastic feuds.
Some say Dory tarnished His reputation by participating in an explosion match in Japan at 83 recently, but those who think so should put it in it's proper context...He was honoring Terry, who faced Onita in an explosion match, which AEW modeled it's explosion match after,in 93. Dory will be remembered as being among the best technicians ever and Terry and Dory will be remembered as being among the best teams ever, despite Their vastly different styles.
That's what I liked about their team. A technician who could brawl (Dory) and a brawler who could wrestle (Terry). I remember watching a house show match with them against the Bulldogs. It was a cage match and one of the best tag team matches I've seen.
@@wrestlingsgreatestmomentsAnd of course Their matches vs Abby and The Sheik in Japan. Although I didn't agree with it,They jobbed to the Public Enemy in a barbed wire match in ECW in 94.Perhaps Terry having crossed paths with Petty in Japan when the latter worked as the Cheetah Kid was a factor as well? Thanks for referencing the Bulldogs match.I'll look for it on You Tube.👍
I love this!!!!
Excellent. Lord willing it will be a weekly feature and at some point, we hope to do occasional long form videos.
Hey now, new format? Been in and out with my fave channels, the chronic pain crap plus pretty severe illness(although it's not RSV, Covid, the Flu, or strep.) Like I need body aches on top of my body agonies!!😅
Hey now brother. Sounds like a rough patch. Welcome back though and we'll keep you in prayer. I had to scale things back for a bit but hopefully we'll be producing more content as 2025 marches on.
@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Thanks, you guys rock. Any content is appreciated, I don't know of anyone else doing something like this, so as long as you put it out, I'll gobble it up(The Gobbledeegooker?)😱😂😂😂 Thanks for the good wishes🙏
British Bulldogs vs Dream Team was hot.
Yes. One of my favorites.
Kayfabe was hot back then.
💯It was still strong.
Where the Briscoes themselves part native American
Yes. Jack Brisco discusses it in his memoir.
When is part 2?
@elvencieprior6968 Probably March. I've already got February planned. Let me know if there are any feeds you'd like covered
Oh Lord what a Hoot to look back on those days of Yore. Great Memories for a kid of the 80s
Indeed! That's when I was in full fan mode.
When Ric Flair lost the NWA title to Ronnie Garvin that surprised me. In their own way both NWA & WWF were good.
@@oscarl.ramirez7355 I was surprised too. I thought that Barry Windham would get the belt earlier that year.
@@oscarl.ramirez7355 I was stunned when Ron Garvin won. Both promotions were on fire around that time.
A lot of great tag teams back in the day I always liked tag matches they almost always wound up all 4 in the ring at the same time
Yes. That's part of what made them so fun.
So that's why Arn Anderson always called Ole "Rock."
Can't confirm it but it makes sense. I know "The Magnificent Muraco" also was nicknamed Rock.
Holy Turnbuckle Batman...A very young Ole Anderson! That is some solid research WGM! This was such a stunner to see! Appreciate this Classic Trivia! MOO From COW-lumbus
Thanks! You never know what is going to turn up. I'm constantly amazed at the old-school treasures that pop up while researching videos. MOO right back!
@@wrestlingsgreatestmoments 👋
Surprising that no one in the comments is bringing up the flaw with Rick Martel and Rowdy Piper representing the American flag. 😂
The only thing I can think of is that maybe the booker felt Martel would be doubly insulted.
To be fair I also think this was before Roddy became Scottish. While obviously missing the accent
Yeh it is shocking to know the sheep herders had hair lol. Ty TH-cam and sheep herders are very underrated heel tag team( the best imo)
I never knew they had long hair until I read their memoir. What a brutal team! Two legends.
I remember them being bloody brawlers in the Southwest and Puerto Rico. Then they became clowns.
@jeremypassmore7019 Well paid clowns.
@ Eh. I wonder.
I remember the Brisco Brothers vs Steamboat/ Youngblood. Looking back through TH-cam vids it was done well, but my heart was never in it. Jack and Jerry were so over as faces in CWF that I could never really get into it. Jerry was Gordon Solie's color guy down there in the early 80's.
I didn't know Jerry did color commentary. I love reading the comments. I learn new things all the time thanks to the knowledgeable fans who comment here. 🙏
Martel replicated the beer bottle spot in an interview while working for International Wrestling from Montreal. I marked out when I heard "We will Rock You" accompanying Rude and Fernandez to the ring. I confuse the Steamboat-Youngblood vs. The Briscos with Steamboat/Youngblood vs Slaughter/Kernodle.I thought "the Final Conflict" was among the matches at Starrcade once upon a time.
Even if you hated Rude and Fernandez, there was no denying they had a great entrance theme. We'll be covering "The Final Conflict" at some point (Lord willing). It played a huge role in Starrcade.
Lucky enough to grow up in North Jersey right outside NYC. So we were luucky enough to get AWA on some random channel. Thats where I started to love the Midnight Rockers. I remember them showing up in WWF as The Rockers didn't really like it. Midnight Rockers will always just sound better.
Likely because Verne had trademarked the name.
@edehren3923 no Verne didn't cause they were The Midnight Rockers in other territories. I believe Marty said in a shoot interview that Vince was the one who shortened it.
@@jetman80popscool. 👍 Thanks for correcting Me. Have a great Friday and Weekend. 😊 ☺
Yes. Midnight Rockers sounded better, especially if you were a metal fan. LOL. 😀
I wonder how savvy Verne was when it came to intellectual property.
I do enjoy my Memphis Wrestling!
You're in good company!
I always liked the FBI, as they were obviously meant to be a parody of Tge Godfather & other Mafia Movies(especially cause of Casting choices in said movies) but became Legit Threats despite it...
They were great. My favorite was Tommy Rich being in the group. LOL.
These Historic Dates in Rasslin really do showcase some spectacular matchups! I would have loved to see the match between Harley Race and The Intelligent Sensational Destroyer! A 30 minute Draw between two legends going full throttle is mind blowing! MOO From COW-lumbus
Yes. I'll have to see if it's online. Sounds like an instant classic! Good to hear from you!
Abby owned 5% of WWC,which is the main reason He continued to go down there after Brodys' murder, though His Devon Nicholson(Hannibal) hepatitis scandal proved that He didn't let ethics get in the way of a paycheck. I bought a VHS tape with a Colon-Iron Sheik match.Im not certain as to if it's the one being referenced, but it's possible to likely. I had a myriad of WWC tapes, chief among them bloody bloody matches of the Carribean 1 & 2. As I was/am a hardcore fan,I would typically look up the results of their cards in the back of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, along with the Japanese death match promotions, chief among them FMW,speaking of which.....do you plan to do,or would You consider doing,a video on hardcore wrestling(FMW,Big Japan,IWA Japan,IWA Mid South,W*ng,WWC,ECW)?
I'm doing research on just how far back hardcore wrestling goes. Hardcore wrestling dates back to at least Dory Funk Sr.'s time in Texas and I imagine, even further back. I would definitely be down for doing later hardcore wrestling, perhaps incorporating everything into an evolution of hardcore wrestling.
@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Thanks so much. Please be sure to include those hours long Texas Death matches.(i.e. Funk Sr vs Mike Dibiase). Memphis once held a Texas Death match that went 28 falls and their concession stand brawls have become legendary. Onita's tenure in the CWA was the impetus for His creating FMW.
I remember discovering WWC in the classic "Main Event" magazines. The photography and slick paper was great. Unfortunately, they cheaped out. Not sure if ownership changed or what.
@@edehren3923 Memphis is probably my second favorite territory next to Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling.
@@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Carlos gambled away all the money. Why foreigners went to Puerto Rico after the Brody murder is beyond Me.Perhaps because Quinones was booking? Heels had to fear for Their lives.😱 I don't think the fans had gotten the "it's scripted" memo yet. I loved Roddy Piper's heel run there in the 80's when He wore a hat with a pig on it and insulted the locals...much like when He said He was going to play the Mexican National Anthem on His bagpipes to atone for beating up the Guerreos, then played la cookaracha. 😂 And the Steve Strong Satanic character, which He recreated and was going to get a mega push with in WCW until Dusty abruptly fired He and His Minotaur character, resonates and is dwelled upon to this Day.
AI👎🏻
Not sure what you're talking about. Our videos are all homemade. No AI.
Special Delivery Jones! You weren't on the map until you won a match with him. He was always a great in-ring performer and played his role well.
Yes. Wrestlers climbing the ladder in WWWF and WWF knew they were on their way when they beat S.D.
This is kind of picky, but in Bruno's quote, he wasn't actually in the "same dressing room" because he won it in 1963 in an entirely different Madison Square Garden. The one he lost it in in 1971 was the MSG that opened in 1967 (I think). Growing up in NYC I was in both MSG's, but never for wrestling. I saw the circus in the old MSG and couldn't have been more than 5 years old. The new MSG I been to for hockey games, and some times some pretty good wrestling broke out during those games.
When you're a wrestling fan, it's all about the details. That's great about the Garden. I was doing some research and came across the different versions of the Garden. Thanks for sharing your memories!
The Vachons! Scaffold Match way too dangerous!Jimmy Valiant actually held a singles title?😮
@@ensabahnur7657 yes he won NWA tv title at Starrcade 83
@dmichael1172 Why don't I remember that?😮😑 Somebody must've turned on him afterwards or in the locker room!😂 I swear he HAS to have the all time record for being turned on & I think he's STILL Wrestling GOD bless him!🙏💖💯📠
And he's trained many wrestlers including former AEW World Heavyweight Champion "Hangman" Adam Page!
Indeed!
Actually, that was Charlie Brown from Outta Town who won the title at Starrcade. 😉😉
If that handicap match had taken place a few years later, there's no way Haystacks would've gotten the duke. That took place before Sheik became the more violent hardcore character we know him as today, and especially with Curry to help him. Haystacks would've been covered with blood in that match.
Interesting booking in Capitol. I'm not familiar with Haystacks work then but he must have been over really big to get a win like that.
@@wrestlingsgreatestmoments Yep. Back then he was over almost as big as Andre was later on. In the late '50s Haystacks was even a guest on You Bet Your Life with Groucho Marx.
Sorry but wasn’t it Sika the one who teamed up with Kamala, not Afa?
I'll have to review the video. Thanks for the heads-up though. We appreciate any time a fan catches a boo-boo.
I want a Pastamania t-shirt for the simple fact the image always makes me laugh.
I'd wear that over most of the garbage produced now by wrestling promotions.
Handsome Jimmy Valient, cooking with gas now! Butchered Handsomes last name.
It's all good here. It's not like people get graded for grammar here.
Was the Sheik actually pinned or just on the losing team? His vanity would only allow Him to job once in a blue moon....at least in the states. Edouard Carpentier was among My fathers' favorite wrestlers along with Mark Lewin, which makes sense,as He born in France into a Jewish family. 🇫🇷 🇮🇱
It's amazing how many greats there were from the territory era. I'm constantly learning about how over and successful many of these wrestlers were. If it was a tag team match, I'm sure The Sheik's partner did the honors.
Personally I think The Scaffold Match should come back for at least one more time as an Ending match to Cody versus KO. It'd be a great way to call back everything, as Dusty was rumored to have come up with it....
Memphis had the scaffold match years prior to the NWA,which would lead one to believe that it was either Lawler's idea or that of Jerry Jarrett.
Its just so unsafe so I doubt it'll ever come back. I mean listen to how much damage Jim Cornett got to his leg on the fall from Starrcade
@@dmichael1172 I agree. Someone might sustain an irreversible injury or,dare I say it,fall to the concrete floor. Imagine if Bubba Ray and/or either of the Hardys had missed the tables during their TLC spots.in a death match promotion in Japan,Zandig overshot the table and Yamakawa was powerbombed to the concrete floor, hitting it head first. These are examples of how dangerous it can be,both in the air and on the ground.
@edehren3923 👍👍 thats also why the only one in wcw in 91 was a capture a flag match because noone wanted to try that bump even Bobby Eaton who had done it before.
WWE has its performers do so many crazy stunts I think it's possible to prep the ring to make it safe for landing. The only problems are 1) how it will look and 2) whether it would affect the ring for the rest of the matches.
