As a KTM fan, I’m stoked to finally get to share the track with a KTM RC8C. The bike and rider were top notch. Camera mounted on a 2014 KTM RC8R

First race on the Stark Varg. I got the hole shot and held first for half a lap. Finished the first lap in Second of 10. Tubliss failed and my front tire went dead flat on the second lap. I finished 5th at 1h38m with 22% charge remaining. Looking forward to the next race with bibs installed. Loving this bike so far.

If thats the 890 in front it sounds like it revs higher. Sadly MotoGP is going to 850CC in 2027
@@ZoneTelevision it is, and it does. Great motor. I agree about MotoGP. Very disappointing.
But....Where did my gimpy speedometer go?. My First bike....1978 RD 400..Cherry red...Keep that rubber side down brother. Great video. Awesome riding.
Nice ride. What class are you running?
Thanks, this was B30 class.
Who would like me to do this again soon and what would you like to see?

All day long love it
I need to get her back on the track soon!
Were you following a leader? Looks like that 8c got some grunt
The camera is on my 2014 RC8R. Normal Advanced session with Ridesmart. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well the C did on corner exit. Power didn’t seem to be an issue. ✊🏻🏁
Nice one
Thanks! Love these KTM’s!
Just picked up a "basket case" D model. (RD400D, the 77 year model.) Only my second D model. But, I've has ALL the other models, including the grandpa R5. Had the crank bearings go out, so while that crank was being rebuilt, ran the R5 crank and cylinders. The flywheel plates are smaller than the 400 plates. Injector oil would puddle there, if I wasn't on it. But, when I did get on her, all that oil was sucked into the head, all you could see behind me, was a LOT of blue smoke! My Daytona Special had an RZ350 engine in it. I know, don't do that to a Daytona! Put the engine, radiator, and the whole front end. (Forks, wheel, and the lot.) Twin front discs on an RD, just amazing! steve
Can you imagine if all of the racers were on Surran how quiet it would be they were just like be zip noises as they take off dirt flying
Awesome job kid! Love seeing this... just stay safe, one bad spill can really hurt you but I imagine your parents cover that area. Listen to them no matter how good you get 🙏🇺🇸💪
Nice
I guess this is the future. Crazy as it is. Good job..
So rad!
Awesome race! Good job!
Great video, using the current settings you have and what you mentioned in your comments how many hours can you get out of the bike before it dies? Has it ever died on you based on battery usage. Really thinking about buying it at the range. Issue is a concern.
Back in 1994 I was my local hare scramble track champion. I thought I was all fast until Scott summers showed up. lol it was his local track as well. Dry ridge KY Eagle creek motocross/hare scramble park. I remember at the AMA sanctioned events he would be there so I knew I wasn’t winning that day. His class started behind me and halfway through the first lap I heard him coming. When he passed I did everything I could to stay with him on his big XR600 and I just didn’t have the muscle to do it. I have no idea how he was able to ride a XR600 like that. I was just a local poor kid that wore sweat pants and a T shirt with a pair of work boots putting the spanking on all the pretty boys. lol
That’s cool man. I had a 94’ xr600 (because of Scott Summers). I made it street legal (sort of). I was an absolute hooligan on that bike. Ride it to the track, race it, ride back home, commute to work, wheelie everywhere I went. Guys would comment on how crazy it was that I could go so fast on the big red pig, but really I felt like it was an advantage in most situations. It handled surprisingly well!
I was all over the CRF450 when they came out… the 450s were like dream come true bikes for me.
@@nate5land i did like riding a xr600 how you could turn and just hammer down and also barrel over rough terrain but it wore me down quickly in the woods.
@@nate5land when the yz400 came out in 98 I got both the 400 and a yz250 and ended up sticking with the 2 strokes. I bet going from the xr600 to the cr450 made ya faster didn’t it?? Before I ever came close to winning a race I had been racing the open class on a YZ490 at like 16 years old, I raced that bike 2 or 3 years then in 94 I got a brand new yz250 and it completely changed everything and I started winning races right off the bat. That 490 made me able to treat a 250 like I was on a bicycle!!!
I knew I heard a 2t coming.
How do you finish 5th at 1:38min?? We always had to go 2 hours. So even if you crossed the finish line at 1:59 min you still did another lap.
The races are 1h40m. I crossed at 1h38m and pulled off since I had a flat. No one in my class went through before the checkered flag went out.
Oh I see yea 1:40 sounds better than 2hrs these days for sure.
Now do these bikes charge while off throttle??im not sure how I could handle that being I have always loved that 2stroke coaster ability so getting on a 4 stroke I didn’t like at all. I’ve stuck with 2 strokes. But on a E-bike it would definitely help the run time if it charged while off throttle.
You can adjust the regen and store it in one of the five selectable maps. All the was from bicycle freewheeling to 4t.
Do any suspension work before the race? What power settings?
Stock suspension with the low speed compression backed all the way out of forks and shock. I need to have them set up for woods riding. They are quit stiff. Mostly 30-35hp with 75% regen.
Looks like so much fun!!!
Too much fun! I hope to go back this year and get some updated footage.
Damn dude, I remember coming by you and knew it could'nt be good. Never got the chance to meet you, hope to see you this year?
Thanks! I hope to come back again this year.
La moto cross se le fue a la mierda 😮😂
I had to stop riding them , too expensive . They love rpm till they go bang and as the old ditty goes “ yam yam yam goes the crank , pistons and barrels , Rds eat engines “ lol
Mine is still on the pistons and crank from last rebuild in 2013. I did retard the timing slightly to make up for unleaded fuel. I could have more power if I advanced it but felt it was a good tradeoff.
@@TheDustinlangston ha ha yeah I saw your rebuild , nice work 👍 . I worked in tuning shops and have a habit of ringing a motors for all it’s got lol . I think the only yams that withstand the abuse well is 200 blaster and 350 banshees . I might put a Stan stevens 525 in an LC RD this upcoming summer , light, great handling and 125bhp . Hopefully that might stop it going bang when you got more power than is needed lol
@@pauldean8638 awesome!
In the early 80s I had a RD 400 what a bike it was I had to watch sometimes because the front used to come up in the air. At the time I put some Micron exhausts on it you could hear from miles away. They were fun but the brakes wasn't up to much but I suppose that was 70s technology.
So much fun and yes, the brakes aren’t as good as modern superbikes but I’ve had good luck with steel lines, freshly rebuilt calipers, and Vesrah pads.
@@TheDustinlangston yes they are fun, did you do a twin disc set up for the front. I expect you would using on the track. Some of the chrome parts would rust especially the front mudguard, at the time I replaced the reed valves with race one to give more air into the intake. In the end the crankshaft oil seal failed and was knocking out one of cylinder's with oil that was the last time I could ride it. I left in the shed for a while before I sold the remains of it. Safe riding 👍.
@@mavericktriple9488 no, I’m running the single disk. I don’t track it much. It mainly sits in my office window. I’ll take her back to the track next year and get some new footage :)
@@TheDustinlangstonyou still got the single disc, I suppose it cuts down on weight if you are racing. No the weather isn't good now wait until the weather gets better next year. I've taken mine off the road, I don't really want to it a financial factor at the moment, I've got to get a new back tyre and Mot the tyre is close to £200. I enjoy every minute riding bikes, no words can describe But you know exactly what I mean by saying That. Have a good season next year or when you ride again 👍.
Love seeing a friendly Rc8 rider 🤙
Thanks!
wow very impressive riding! just picked up a 95 r1100gs and am in mo as well cheers!
Hope to see you out on a trail!
The front forks looks like upgraded.
Yes, they are Bitubo Nitrogen gas forks. Matching shock.
Straight away I'd get rid of that windscreen with the creases in it. VERY DISTRACTIVE
I had an RD250C, D. Followed by an RD400D, E & F. Absolutely Loved those bikes.

Wish I still had my RD. I can't figure out why you let that dual sport get away from you. Looks like you could use some cylinder porting and bigger carbs
That was a Suzuki V Strom 1000. He had quite a bit more grunt on the straights.
🤝💪
Thank you!
You ride that thing on rougher terrain than I hit on my Beta! Awesome video.
Thanks! She’s a pig but it’s really fun!
I feel like you can downshift more often and break wayyyyyy later, should be at least later than the S1000RR if you consider your weight
The beauty of the V Twin is the ability to reach down low and utilize the torque curve. My in-line four bikes I have to downshift often and keep in a higher rev range to make power. The KTM has a lot of engine braking. My lap times went down when I stayed in a taller gear through turn 3-4-7-9 and 10. This was the last session of the day. My front tire was spent and pushing wide. I was a second off pace. Thanks for watching!
The limiter always react you❤😂
I wish it were higher!

Is thar the ohlins version? Cake or EM which one is better?
This is the Kalk OR with Ohlins. Both bikes are great in their element. The EM is a trails bike. The Cake is a fantastic all around machine.

the smell of 2stroke oil and race fuel , never to be smelled again, love the sound and riding, tks;

you will need $16k aud if you want one of these in Australia...
Wow! They are growing in value here but still under $10k
Heeelll Yeah....A great bike, a bike that is a real bike. Low clip-on handle bars look soooo sharp on these vintage nakeds. All the best.

Those supermonos and supermotos sound like an irritating farting cow. And listen to the sound of nervous buzzing 2 strokers. Does not matter if opponents are stronger or faster, I would ride the smokey ones.
Excellent!
I wish I still had my RD.
