OOO great way to start off a Sunday morning.This was my brothers favorite GI Joe and from a guy that appreciates that someone was working hard to give us a big diverse coloring box of characters to play with representing all walks of life, this might have been the best minority character representation in 80s popculture.

While Zartan would be my character go to character to launch a whole Shared Hasbro Universe (see the Beach Head episode with Mike Izary from WOJM comments for details) Chuckles would be my gateway into the GI Joe team. Loved Magnum PI. I'm one of those Florida southern boys who think Hawaiian shirts pass as formal wear (don't invite me to your wedding and not be prepared to have me trash up your photo album). Chuckles is arguably the biggest shoulder shrug when someone asks if there was anyone cosplaying at your Joe-themed event. "Meh, there is a guy called Chuckles/Bazooka/William Perry who are just a shirt and Shipwreck and Cutter you can do by stopping by the Dickie section of Walmart and adding a hat.

Wow, I'm a huge fan of using Brody Dalle as I think Hasbro should be looking to reuse the tooling on the action figures across the entire catalog plus expand to new lines.(see my comment on the Beach Head episode with Mike Izary from WOJM to get my grand scheme for Shared Hasbro Universe) I know the point is live-action movie casting but even with a cartoon this would be a choice I'd make just to be able to recast her in the Jem project as Pizzaz (yes I know the names of the Misfits). This would be almost Robert Downey Junior level key casting. I like the Rhea Ripley idea just because I do like the idea of having a bit of diversity in the toy box and having a larger female figure buck wouldn't hurt. On my earlier thoughts on making Zaranna the prison Warden's office assistant, with Rheah Ripley I'd make her a female guard and reuse the figure as a park ranger/animal rescue worker where the woman is the surprise powerhouse in the co-ed ranger team. Then re-use the figure again as the police chauffeur who is twist not Wayne Sneeden Jr but his wife an ex-MP who has a new baby at home Wayne Sneeden III.

Did Lowlight have the best featured character episode? I's actually surprising how few featured character episodes there were in the cartoon. I'm only counting Sunbow episodes.

Watching these at 1.5 speed. The big debate on the playground in Florida this year was ?who was the cooler Joe?" Falcon or Chuckles? 80s Hawaiian shirts were so big in Florida I still consider it formal enough to wear to a wedding or graduation but Falcon was voiced by Don Johnson who was basically the president of Florida back in the day.

Just discovered the channel. I don't know why I missed it after the Darth Parma episode of WOJM but I'm doing a dive into the back catalog. The second mini series was really where I made the switch from Star Wars to GI Joe. I'm a 79 baby with 16 and 19 year old parents so they were hip to Star Wars from the beginning and I had cousins a year or two older. I had "The Whale" from the year before because it was awesome even if I didn't know GI Joe but Flint was the first Joe I got after he looked so cool in the commercial. Then Shipwreck was my favorite after the mini series. Was never a comics kid so Snake Eyes was never that big a deal. But Storm Shadow was the figure that got away.

First off, in 80s Prince vs 90s Prince I'm big time 90s Prince but 80s Prince clearly won the war. As far as casting Beach Head in a movie I wouldn't start With casting Beach Head I wouldn't cast Beach Head first my Joe Cinematic Universe would start with Zartan and his siblings committing some sort of M.A.R.S. weapons heist in Lousiana in Thibeduex or Fer de Lance swamps I would have the heist foiled by a wildlife officer/game warden related to Muskrat who dies saving a member of the Ettiene clan who happened to be in the area. Zartan gets caught and sent to a high tech superjail coincidentally designed and operated by M.A.R.S. industries. Zarana and Zandar infiltrate the prison that would be progressively co-ed and pull off a complicated prison break with the help of some of the other prisoners including an alliance of biker gang members who are named some variation of "Dread" and an Aryan Brotherhood inspired prison gang called "The Noks" I'd round out the cast of prisoners with Red Dog, Taurus, and of Mercer. I'd include a Detriot gang leader from Stalker's gang and a computer hacker that washed out from the same program that Mainframe was in. I'd have dress all the prisoners in scrubs with maybe a variation in the arms like cutoff sleeves, short sleeves and sweatshirt under scrub top long sleeves with maybe a bigger buck for Road Pig. I'd straight plagerize the detail from the Rutger Hauer movie "Wedlock" where the prisoners have an explosive/lethal injection collar or implant connected to one of the female prisoners in the womens' half of the prison. That activates if they are not in a certain proximity of their female counterpart. I would dress the female prisoners in scrubs as well maybe one alternate body type character. This way most of the cast would be in outfits that could use the same reusable tooling just alternate heads. The scrub uniform characters tooling could be reused in a medical themed line in the future (I'm thinking something kid friendly like a veterinarian themed property) The guards could be dressed in a uniform that could pass as a forest ranger to use in the veterinarian themed property maybe include a guard of both genders. Zarana would be undercover as the Warden's secretary and be dressed like one of the girls from "Jem And The Holigrams" and three of the female prisoners would have heads that could pass as the bad girls from "Jem". When the prison break plans include killing several of the female "Wedlock" counterparts, Red Dog, Taurus, Mercer and the Detroit gang leader could have a change of heart that saves several female prisoners and the Warden(dressed like the business attired Crimson Twins) and preventing many members of "The Dreads" and "The Noks" from escaping and catching the attention of Stalker because of his relation to the gang leader. Ultimately, several of "The Dreads" and "The Noks" are able so escape with Zartan and the computer hacker. The next instalement would be intelligence officer Chuckles teaming up with local law enforcement to take down new "Dreadnok" biker gang running weapons for Narcotics. I'd have a seasoned female detective character related to Shockwave dressed like one of the other girls from "Jem and The Holigrams" who for some reason doesn't drive and is chaufered by a rookie officer fresh from the Army Military Police named Wayne Sneeden jr. who didn't re-enlist because his wife just gave birth to Wayne Sneeden III. I'd b e looking to cast Wayne Sneeden Jr. before his father. This is where id used the classic Dreadnok designs along with a bunch of S.O.A./Mayans inspired designs including a couple of biker chicks dressed like the bad girls from "Jem and The Holigrams" I'd do the unrelated animal hospital themed thing next with the park rangers and a rescue helicopter pilot and a secretary dressed like another member of you guessed it "Jem and The Holigrams" Then I'd do "Jem and The Holigrams" with a third band of girls that's Latin inspired or even K-pop I'd then do a narco terrorist instalment taking advantage of the DEF guys in combination with the "Jungle Trooper" themed Joes. I'd connect the Narco Terrorists with an ancient Yakuza like group that has rivalry with another Japanese clan.

Always appreciate the deep dives! My G.I. Joe head canon has each Joe complete SF courses and selection regardless of parent branch or unit. I understand it's one of the longest pipelines. (I read that longer Spec Ops pipelines are for more specialized Air Force Combat Controllers and Pararescuemen.) "To Free the Oppressed"

So, thought i would clarify the rank. Most officers are ROTC or West Point, they go into college at 18 and graduate a 2nd lieutenant (butter bar, gold bar, or 01) at the age of 22. Then depending on the promotion rate and needs of the army, they would make 02 in 18 months or 2 years later, normally 2 years. So, you can be a 02 or first lieutenant at 24 years old. Then there is OCS and direct commissions. You could get a battlefield commission to 01 at any age. I was commissioned at 21 years old because I went to OCS. I was an 02 (first lieutenant - silver bar) at 23 years old, and a captain (railroad tracks) at 25. It was 2 years time in service in those days (mid 70s). Ref Falcon carrying a radio. Normally officers wouldn't carry a radio. But stuff happens. So, IMHO, it's not a horrible mistake to have him carrying a radio(especially if he as on a sf team, but in my unit, the b company, 2nd bn 503rd airborne (or the 1st inf div, or the 25th inf division), they didn't carry a radio. But they had to have someone close by that did carry one because they need it to call for fire, coordinate troop movement, and intelligence information, not to mention evacuation of wounded. hth
