El Salvador Reconnoiter - Murph's Farm
One of the two best experiences I had in #ElSalvador was visiting @MURPHSLIFE Farm that he is building. "So, what's so special about him building a restaurant or whatever it is he is doing up there" you might ask? Well, watch the video and see the passion that Aaron has for the local Salvadorans, the opportunity he is creating for them, and the truly inspiring work he does for the less fortunate than ourselves. #BitcoinBringsHope

Why we use the term “Fossil Fuels”

An interesting video about the petrochemical industry and the use of the term “fossil fuels”.
Hanging a Door: Door jamb not level! How to Fix
มุมมอง 762 ปีที่แล้ว
Renovating an old house means you will come across old problems that can be tricky to fix. This video shows you how to fix a door jamb that doesn’t have a level head and is hard up against the frame above it, using a circular saw first, then a reciprocating saw to finish off the cuts.
Installing architrave on a non-plumb (out of level) wall
มุมมอง 2.3K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Ever had to install architrave on a door jam that is plumb, but the wall isn’t and makes the architrave have a terrible gap that is very easy to notice, even by a layman? Well there is a trick of the trade you can do that looks infinitely better!
Laying a hardwood floor and making a spline
มุมมอง 14K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Laying a timber floor isn’t as hard as you would think it is, but there are some tips and tricks to it. In this first video (probably should be about the fifth, given the stage I am up to) I show you how to mark the centre of a large room to equalise any “out of squareness” the room may have and thus minimise how obvious that is in the timbers. And then I show what a “spline” is used for. Enjoy...

Love the video mate ! Have plenty of these problems in our latest Reno. Exactly like you said, the older builds can be up to an inch out !

I'd be scribing the width of the Arch, then crushing the Gyp (allowing about 2mm after scoring with a Stanley knife) and crushing the Gyp, then fixing the Archs mate. It's easier that way. Just my two cents worth. Yep as per below comments.

I was thinking on this option too. My concern is that it will weaken the plasterboard fixing around the door stud and the plasterboard will be able to flex easily until the next vertical stud 450mm inboard (450 centres in our current build)

Another option is to 'crush the Gyprock plasterboard'...ie: line up your Arch, scribe a line on its intended fixing, then crush the Gyprock plasterboard and fix. It's rough but it will look fine. It's not correct but it will look fine. The other option is to ensure all studs and blocking are Plumb.

Did you use any adhesive ? If so what brand

    • @MarkOfBitcoin

I didn't actually, and 5 years later, it's still holding up well. But there is a couple of places that have a very slight creak that maybe adhesive would have helped with, and if I did this again, yes I would use a little. My preferred adhesive, purely due to it's strength yet very flexible nature is Sikaflex Pro. Basically a polyurethane adhesive that comes in a tube.

Good info but was looking to see the actual spline cutting to see how different then when cut them

Thanks, Adam. I'll try to make a short video on using a table saw but they are not very hard to use. They are however very noisy, so I would have to mute the sound big time. Probably the noisiest machine you will ever use! Or if you don't have a table saw, I'm pretty sure you can buy hardwood (Tassie Oak) trim timbers that are 6mm wide by 10 or 20mm that you could then plane down to the required width of two timber tongues.
