At the end the commentators mention the incredible run of success at Eden Park (hadn't been beaten there for 12 years at that point, since 1994). It's now 2024, 18 years later, & they still haven't been beaten there since 1994.

Very interesting documentary shows the beginnings of professional rugby union well.

Ironically the try would never have happened in todays game with a couple of brutal high tackles on JPR in the build up!

Definitely the most Successful Wallabies side in the History of Australian Rugby. I only wish that current lot Wallabies could replicate the Wallabies of this Era.

I know I’ll get flack for saying this bc Aussies take such pride in being forthright, etc but I don’t know of any other commentators who complain as much as these guys when the call goes against the Aussies. It’s really distracting as well as irritating. I’ll happily listen to any other country’s commentators if I can avoid listening to these guys.

as a NZer I grew up in the 80's when South Africa was barred from rugby in the 80's .the Bledisloe cup was NZ's most anticipated game. the games were great spectacles to watch indeed. It was Transtasman little brother v big brother . Nick Farr Jones , Lynagh, Campese , Poidevin, Kearns , Horan , Little , John Eales , Peter Fitzsimmons , Bob Dwyer coaching , were and still are absolute Legends . I still get excited for NZ v Australia games

One of the reasons the BIL came out so aggressively was because of the treatment they had dished out to them in the warm up matches. Look at the intro montage the NSW player was clearly high. Lions tours are never easy and Opposing Coaches (in the past) have given free license to take BIL test players out in the “warm up matches”

as a Kiwi I dont see South Africa as our greatest rugby rivals . in any sport our greatest rivals will always be our Anzac big brothers and sisters across the Tasman sea Australia .I grew idolising not only kiwi rugby players but aussies like David Campese, Nick Farr-Jones, Michael Lynagh , Andrew Slack , The Ella brothers , Simon Poidevin, and Peter Fitzsimmons. Peter Fitzsimmons is a great friend of the NZ people and a well sort after dinner speaker here in NZ . The apartheid bullshit that split NZ in 1981 puts me off the South African rugby team . I also love the Warriors for that reason for that reason . we get to play Aussie teams each week

Excellent doco giving the rugby-loving public behind-the-scenes insight to this defining time in rugby union history. Makes logical sense to go where the money is (not just talk, but actual funding that is readily available). Kudos to those who got the ball rolling, though (WRC). Have to laugh at Fitzsimons being so anti-Pienaar and his comments in general. Used to like Kearns, but since retirement, his TV rugby commentary is so obviously biased which is unprofessional (mute button is really handy). Brilliant that Pienaar could still laugh about it all... even being kicked in the head by NZ players in a scrum and being used as a scapegoat by some southern hemisphere rugby influencers. Pienaar is an astute businessman with integrity and total professionalism which is what made him an excellent captain and leader who commanded respect from his team and his President, the late Nelson Mandela.
