Take the short cut to quitting…..just don’t show up

It’s a challenge because they have politicized the classrooms. The public schools are forced to adhere to a woke view of the world, thus forcing the children to abide by crazy policies. I have many friends who have pulled their children from the public school system. The school system is failing the children and ultimately failing the community by forcing these kids into that ideology.

My friend quit when her 12 year old students started to send x-rated videos of themselves to multiple other students, and the principal told her “that’s just the way it is now”.

Not because it's a 'challenge' dear. It's always been that. Now the job has become untenable. Pure and simple.

Im not a teacher but i can imagine its horrendous teaching the generations coming through. Parents treat their children like their angels and like they have no capacity to be little demons, which couldnt be further from the truth. Theres no focus on consequences anymore. I went to Secondary school (UK) in the 00s and it was bad then, (one teacher was berated so much she basically had a nervous breakdown in front of us, and becuase schools have a prison mentality, the other kids even laughed at that), and i hear from teacher friends its only gotten worse. Absolutely no discipline in schools, namby pamby atittude from overly politicised headteachers and management. No wonder incivility is getting worse on the streets. We need to start looking at some Japanese methods of education, where they build a sense of pride in students, with regards to the school itself, and respect towards teachers. Parenting is generally awful these days aswell, whereby many of us teach our kids that nobody deserves respect and it has to be earnt. Well not in all aspects, you should always be respectful to people in general. Respect their freedom from harassment and respect their personal space.

This is a world wide issue and not related to one country, some thing is being done very wrong and have to change immediately, before it is too late.

Best of luck. I walked away in 96-97 after only 1.5 years and saw the way this was headed then. Unfortunately, everything I see is proving my decision as the right one. Also unfortunately... we dont know the consequences of people leaving and 'lesser' qualified being put in front of an even more unwilling crowd with zero-backing to the teachers. Well... we are seeing more "cray-cray" by the day so the answer could be in our face... Buckle up and hang on 🤷‍♂️

Everyone in the profession knows how to fix it. The problem is that politicians and people in charge don’t listen to those who actually do the work every day.

When you don't show up for a couple weeks, they'll figure it out.

I absolutely loved my students but dealing with unrealistic expectations, parents who don't always take responsibility for their children, as well as admin who sreadfastly cannot deal with chidren in trauma, I retired. It's sad, because I miss my students & I miss being in a classroom

I did the same a couple years ago and I never knew life could be so sweet. No more asst. principals giving out candy to kids I sent to the office. So stupid.

The problem in the schools is symptomatic of the problem in our society: no personal accountability. Schools want to gloss over things with new initiatives, new tech, words, and teachers get thrown under the bus. When it comes down to it, the slogan should be, I take are of my shit, you take care of your shit, and students need to take care of their shit. It is that simple. In my last school over 50% of the student laptops were either broken or disappeared in one year. Students would also pop off keyboard keys right in front of staff. Not one family had to cough up a red cent. All that money down the drain and test scores remained abyssmal. This is not sustainable, and our society will suffer. I am in a much better school system now, and my students all want to learn. But, this situation is an anomaly I gather. Almost all of my students are affluent and parents are professionals.

My wife was an elementary teacher. Hard work and long hours is what I remember. A good teacher can make a big difference in a kid’s life. It did mine. In public schools, I am sure there are still good teachers, but I do not trust the system anymore. The gov’t has gone too far over the line and same with parents. I don’t what to do, but I do know our future is at stake!

I’ve been a teacher in France for the past 36 years. I thought I was doing fine, but I realized I had to brace myself every morning to go to work. The fist day of school this year, a student motioned to me to come to his desk. I went up to him with a smile on my face, ready to answer his question. He wiped the smile clean in an instant : he wanted to know if I was going to bore him stiff (please replace this phrase with the grossest phrase you can think of to get near his words) for the next year like all his previous teachers. I sent him to the head of the school. He came back to class with a slap on the wrist. One of my colleagues sent an indignant email to our head. To support me? Naaaaah. To support the student, because he could feel he had « potential « . So, at the age of 61, I’ve started my final countdown. I’m counting the months and years that still separate me from retirement.

As bad as the kids have become, and as insane as the parents are, the worse aspect of the job is dealing with toxic administrators and toxic hateful school district big wigs who lord over you. California is broke AF, and they are looking for reasons to fire and ruin any teacher with 10+ years just so they do not have to pay you a pension! It is even worse if you are a conservative white male, you are walking around with a bulls eye on your back. The industry is dominated by women, and many of them are toxic feminists.

I retired after 30 years 14 years ago. It wasn't so bad then. I actually loved going to work.

I will write a formal letter and submit it to HR and that will be sufficient they will have a courtesy notice and I will be done it's best if you set the final date in written notice, I have been teacher for over 25 years, with the work related responsibilities and following with my professional growth and development I over prioritized my professional career to the point that I will turn 50 years next year and never had the energy to have my own children and grow my family life, it takes so much from us the demands are unreasonable to the point that their is so much abuse against us and our health takes a tool and our personal quality of life suffers it's not about the pay that motivates us to stick to the profession the hostility in such a work place is toxic and the work atmosphere is complained for the teaching staff and the students the administration and parents really harm our work and that really pushes us to have to leave before we would have otherwise if the conditions were favorable for us to continue too sad the harm will have a negative effect for our country and society

Well there’s been a systematic effort by a certain political party to destroy the public education system in this country, a keystone of democracy. Part of that is making teaching a miserable profession. It’s sad to see. :(

It’s all the fault of the parents. They have raised these kids to be monsters and do nothing about it. Soon schools will have to start closing due to lack of teachers and these parents will have to teach their little demon children themselves. And you know what? Serves them right

I hope you were able to get your resignation done! I retired 10 years ago after 42 years of teaching 1-3. I think my career spanned some pretty wonderful times to be a teacher, but we were making so little money then. By the time I retired, I knew I just couldn't do it anymore - no consequences for student behavior, crappy pay, complete work overload, tons of stress. Thank goodness I was old enough for Social Security!

I quit teaching 42 years ago and never looked back

Soon they're going to have to hook up the kids to AI to get their public education.
