    Hello. Thank you for taking the time to create this series of videos and of course the software tool. Really amazing and just what I was looking for. However, I am having a problem completing the recalculation in Base Camp. I believe I have followed your process step for step. 1. Create Route in Rever. 2. Upload to a GPX file. 3. Import to Track to Route tool. 4. Export from Track to Route tool. 5. Import to Base Camp. 6. Attempt to Recalculate. Here is where I hit a snag. When I click RECALCULATE the data in the box seems to refresh, but the line on the map does not. It remains in the direct line format just as it was when first imported. I recorded my screen as I attempted the process. It's a short 3 minute video (th-cam.com/video/sIa7xRj8bzs/w-d-xo.html). It's a bit of an ask, I know, but if you wouldn't mind having a quick look and see if I am doing something wrong I would be very grateful. Thank you.

      Hi Marc, I just watched your video. Do you have a routable map installed in Basecamp? The map that comes with the standard Basecamp download is very basic. You can install the map from your Garmin device to Basecamp using the Garmin Express app on your pc. See Basecamp tutorials on the EZ Moto Tim TH-cam channel (th-cam.com/play/PL7SnEAaQ4kJh7gnOHW_IsXDRyauzcFgK7.html). If you build a simple route just using Basecamp itself, does it work? In your video, it sure looks like Basecamp is using the Direct Activity Profile rather than Motorcycling even though you clearly have Motorcycling selected. If your map is good, then this would be very strange. It is possible to rename profiles in Basecamp so maybe something got messed up there? If you click on Motorcycling in the top menu, then Edit Activity Profiles, and click the pencil icon to edit the profile, you can check that the profile named Motorcycling is actually based on Motorcycling. You can also check the settings on the Routing tab there. Other than that, I don't know.

      @@retiredtwotiredtraveler Thank you for the quick response. Looks like it was the missing Maps just as you suspected. Used Garmin Express to update maps (and install on computer) and Eureka... It seems to be working as it should. Thank you again. This is going to help alleviate so much frustration. Thank you sir.

    Just a comment - I've been on your journey ... and so far, we agree on everything! Just like to add - a Track can also be a path somebody *PLANS* to go. Created by software... this is evidenced by "Export as Track" on just about any tool you use!

      @@retiredtwotiredtraveler I've now watched your full array of videos. I have spent 4 hours wrestling with this, but have actually gone back extracted random planned rides from the past - and exported them as Track and have them running on Garmin XT2. Thank you - you made my life a lot easier and I learned a lot. On the XT2 - it doesn't like BaseCamp - it is Tread based - so the process needed some tweaking. Export as Track, Use your Tool, Send to Tread, Edit Route, Massage as needed, Open on GPS ... #Magic

    • @retiredtwotiredtraveler
      @retiredtwotiredtraveler 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ScottPatton44 I'm glad it was helpful to you. BaseCamp does warn you that the XT2 is not officially supported but it actually works just fine. Tread seems to me to be still a work in progress rather than a finished product. Further, it only runs on small screen devices. I have recently upgraded to the XT2 but I still use Basecamp on a PC with a big screen. If you transfer routes directly from Basecamp to the XT2's internal memory, the routes go to the temp gpx file which is, in fact, temporary. If you drag and drop to the XT2's sd card, the routes go to automatically named files - route.gpx, route0.gpx, ... You can control the file names to make them meaningful by selecting your route(s) in Basecamp, then using File->Export->Export Selection. Either save them to your hard drive, then copy to the sd card, or insert the sd card from the XT2 into your computer and save the file(s) to the card. You can put multiple routes in one file or put each route in it's own file. You can find lots of info on the zumo user forums for the XT and XT2 here: www.zumouserforums.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=11&sid=f141d7dee2a95807a20c4f9712f6f8b8

      I can see BaseCamp->Tread as a possible issue. Interesting. Will try going straight to XT2.

    Hi RTTT, this video is very helpful. I have not watched the first 4 yet, but I already understood the concepts and terminology differences. I tried to download and use your Track to Route tool, but it appears to be a Windows .exe. I only use a Mac. Do you have the set of rules or steps that you use in your tool that I might be able to convert to a tool that would work on a Mac? Or even do manually in a text editor? I am imagining that you’re changing the XML tags on certain elements to be properly recognized by the Garmin device. Perhaps it could be done with a Unix “sed” script or something similar. Let me know if you would like to collaborate. -Carl on the verge of retirement

      Hello Carl. Yes it is Windows only, sorry. I don't have a Mac. The process would be a bit much for something like sed and would be very tedious to do manually. The 7th video in the playlist, "Converting Between Tracks and Routes" provides a brief explanation beginning at about 2:30. I don't mind sharing more, but I don't know any means to exchange contact info here in a non-public way.

    Hi I think I am missing something here. At 4:40 you say you are opening Track to Route. What or Where is this? I have not used REVER but looking for an alternative to BC. OKAY I found it. But is this windows only software?

    • @retiredtwotiredtraveler
      @retiredtwotiredtraveler 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, Track to Route is Windows only, sorry. It is something I created for my own use. I share it for free in case it is helpful to others. I don't have a Mac so I can't build and test for that platform. My typical process starts in Rever, then export through Track to Route to Basecamp and export to my zumoXT. Occasionally I use Google My Maps instead of Rever. BaseCamp is not required but I find it helpful (1) to check and tweak routes on a large computer screen rather than on a phone or the navigation device and (2) because BC is highly compatible with Garmin navigation devices. BC does have a learning curve to it but I find it very powerful and worth learning. I would highly recommend the BaseCamp tutorials by youtube.com/@EZMotoTim. I'd be happy to answer any further questions here.

      Thanks. I have been using BC for ten years so very familiar. I may try River just because it has Butler routes that I don't need to recreate. @@retiredtwotiredtraveler
