A mini interview with indie band: The Red Pears, prior to their show here in Phoenix, Arizona at The Valley Bar! Their performance at the Valley Bar promptly ended their “Thank you for being here” tour. This show was by far one of the most energetic and memorable shows I’ve ever been to. This show was such an incredible experience and opportunity that allowed me to be able to meet the musical artists behind the widely enjoyed indie songs created by The Red Pears, titled “ Daylight/Moonlight” and “Flowers”. Alongside The Red Pears, were Mexican Slum Rats and 60Juno, whom are widely enjoyed throughout the indie music scene. All bands radiated an overwhelming amount of emotion, allowing the audience to have an unforgettable moment in time. The lineup of bands including their performances most definitely did not disappoint! -kimo
The Red pears are an indie/alternative band from El Monte, California who began their ‘Thank You for Being Here' tour fall tour of 2023 on September 14th alongside Mexican Slum Rats and 60Juno. They gained some fame quickly through their first album, “We Bring Anything to the Tables… Except Tables We Can’t Bring Tables to the Table''. They have since released two other albums, along with many singles and just recently released their new single “Tired”.
Since then they have grown in recognition within the indie genre and along the way a supportive fan base has expanded them as a Latino band from the San Gabriel area. Mexican Slum Rats hail from Granada Hills,California. Similarly, to The Red Pears, Mexican Slum Rats have an alternative side, but carry more elements of a surfer indie vibe. 60Juno has a dreamy-surfer rock sound that is similar to bands like The Drums and Current Joys but with their own nostalgic vibe.
On Thursday October 26, The Red Pears had their final show of their tour here in Phoenix, Arizona at the Valley Bar! As Halloween was coming about the members of The Red Pears dressed up for their performance. Henry Vagas on guitar and vocals dressed as a clown; Jose Corona on drums was the joker; their good friend Patrick Juarez who helps on bass was a police officer; and, their other good friend Albert on guitar was Michael Myers. The Red Pears received much love for all their songs but when ‘Away’ (the most known song of the band) played everyone sang and it could be heard from all corners of the venue. Mexican Slum Rats was the first act of the night, and had a supportive and energized crowd throughout their whole set. The crowd consisted of singing, pushing and shoving. Yet this reporter found it was also a caring environment that helped anyone who had fallen or needed help. 60juno was a definite switch within genres compared to the Mexican Slum Rats set; although, it was a needed break from the overwhelming yet such energized crowd. Overall, 60juno had a calming vibe.
