Alraqs Festival

We are a Dance Festival dedicated to Belly Dance based in Nicosia, Cyprus. We hosts Workshops, a Gala Show and a Competition. Our first edition began in 2022 and we meet again on the second weekend of December every year! The festival's organiser is Alexia Christodoulou who has a long career as a professional Belly Dancer on the island with many participations and awards from various international festivals and competitions. Her dream was to create and dedicate a space to celebrate the Art of Oriental Dance but also help further education in both amatures and professionals on the island and from abroad! Alraqs Festival offers an opportunity to local professionals to teach and has an international guest star joining the team every year. We love putting on a Show open for everyone to enjoy and also a Competition which gives an oportunity to all ages and levels of dancers to test out their skills and gain experience and awards to help them further their journey into Oriental Dance.

Our amazing organiser and master teacher Alexia Christodoulou welcomes all dancers and special guest star Alla Kushnir on stage to a grand finale filled with much joy and emotions. At the end of the performance a special reunion with Sylvia Serena who is the 'mother' of the bellydance scene in Cyprus. A teacher and mentor to many of dancers on the stage overwhelmed with pride for the accomplishments of her students and the evolution of the bellydance scene in Cyprus she joins Alexia for a heart-warming embrace to congratulate her.
