Somehow lacks the directness of the German: Lord! Our ruler! Whose glory is known in every land. The arias are especially difficult to translate in a way that sounds natural, because German vowels tend to be longer and purer and are more suitable for singing.
I attended this English interpretation of Bach's John passion. The resonance of the music and the choir was sublime. The English language was a welcome change for it allowed me to understand the marvelous harmony between the meaning of the text and the music. Thank you to all.
Is the text of Madeleine Marshall's English translation available online?
Rick! I miss you here in Rochester but glad you still play Bach and all the rest!
Amazing but the program says E minor 😂
Music to die for! Keep doing what your doing! ❤

Having just discovered your channel, I'm surprised that you don't have a lot more subscribers and views. I shall certainly be watching and listening to more of your uploads. I guess there aren't many people who can boast of having an organ such as the one here in their home!
Beautiful German-style organ ... the kind organist is really good at playing 700 and 900 music with a naturalness even in the demanding register changes to simulate crescendos. I am truly fascinated
Nice initiative, pity about the abysmal sound.
beautiful performance! congrats <3
The pronunciation is extremely odd what language is this in? It’s obviously not German
This was the premiere of Madeleine Marshall's new English translation.
Thanks for singing my setting of Luther's Evening Prayer so beautifully too. I am honoured that you have sung this. Love and blessings to you all. +Mark
Absolutely loving this. Thanks so much, and greetings from Aotearoa-New Zealand.
so sweet and beautiful~~ thank you all
Bravi!
Thank you!
Exquisite music and museum background of Canaletto's paintings. Thank you for making this possible.
Beautiful music and artwork. Thank you for putting on the performance.
Loved it, but if doing a program like this in the future, would probably work better if the Curator did a voiceover afterwards, as her voice echoed with her mask-covered muffled voice, when done in the large, open room, wearing the mask. However the musicians' music carried very well.
That was lovely.
This is wonderful.
Bach was looking down from heaven and smiling on you Kurt. You looked so joyous. How wonderful to hear a concert like this. Bravo! Connie
Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece, that is uplifting and soothing to the soul. We should all listen to more beautiful music for the calming effect rather than depending on social media for entertainment, minimizing watching TV and finding peaceful ways to fill our time when we are facing this challenge. Being in a stew, does not help ourselves or anyone else. While being in a place of peace and calm, the energy ripples out, and we can be a more positive influence to uplift . Love and light to one and all.
Beautiful thank you so much, stay well.
Wonderful in so many ways. I wish that there were more information re this conductor and performing group here as I would like to congratulate them. MAJ
Thank you so much! You can read more about Rick and the Bach Society in general at bachsocietyhouston.org/director.
