This had to be the thinnest she ever was. Almost to the danger zone. This song blew the world away when it was released. It was her first song, never to be outdone, or even come close to. It was just too perfect of a song to ever top.
This was a good performance, but i liked the one she did on good morning america much better. Not sure which came first, but i think they were in the same year 1990.
Mariah is humble...she was then and still is. Its like she discovered she had a real life super power - learning how to use and when to use it- she took great care and treaded carefully it seems. Beautiful in every way
"Vision of Love" Mariah Carey (Live at The Arsenio Hall Show/June 1, 1990) #VisionofLove [Verse 1] Treated me kind Sweet destiny Carried me through desperation To the one that was waiting for me It took so long Still I believed Somehow the one that I needed Would find me eventually [Chorus] I had a vision of love And it was all that you've given to me [Verse 2] Prayed through the nights Felt so alone Suffered from alienation Carried the weight on my own Had to be strong So I believed And now I know I've succeeded In finding the place I conceived [Chorus] I had a vision of love And it was all that you've given to me I had a vision of love And it was all that you've given me [Bridge] I've realized the dream And I visualized The love that came to be Feel so alive I'm so thankful that I've received The answer that heaven has sent down to me [Verse 3] You treated me kind Sweet destiny And I'll be eternally grateful Holding you so close to me Prayed through the nights So faithfully Knowing the one that I needed Would find me eventually [Chorus] I had a vision of love And it was all that you've given to me I had a vision of love And it was all that you turned out to be
Mariah's Arsenio Hall Show was to Elvis' The Ed Sullivan Show. Most big artist "grew into" stardom. There was a slow build up of many months, more often years. But in this case, never has there been artists as big who bursts into the global stage in one night. At least not in the caliber of stardom as Mariah and Elvis. Many always thought it was in Oprah, but that didn't happen until more than a year later.
my coworker knows i am a huge mariah fan & she always tells me what her reaction was when she first heard VOL on the radio & then seeing this performance. I never get tired of it..
@@GgRdarioYet Mariah was signed by Tommy with full intention of rivalling Whitney just because Tommy wanted his own Whitney Houston no Delt that Mariah would still be a legend but y’all lambs need to except Mariah was signed to compete against Whitney.

I was in the audience for this. Every person was plastered to the back of their seats, riveted by this performance. We heard two songs - the audience went absolutely nuts. Arsenio's intro was into the camera, but the audience could not hear it. We asked all around fellow audience members "who IS that?!?!?" - and nobody knew. We had to go home, turn on the TV that night and watch the full show to learn that the singer's name was "Mariah Carey." I never witnesses such a remarkable phenomenon before or since.
Who’s here while reading her book?❤❤

She was great in the beginning..she changed later.

This was her very first live performance. America The Beautiful was her second.
Incroyable
I’m years late but reading her book….🥰😊

Only mariah carey can make a debut like this. Wow!
little did she know little beyoncé, brandy and kelly clarkson were watching the show and were inspired by her
You can see Whitney was a huge influence on Mariah here.
No.

@@Sttephy30Exactly! I'm so tired of this " Whitney was the only commercially successful singer that Mariah needed to compete with" argument!
The Mariah I got hooked on in the Summer of 91' She was the QUEEN while in I was college. Still have a spark for Mimi in 22'.
I love her hand movements during this performance.
Arsenio was a great talk show host.
I love the instrumental so funky
Is she singing live? I genuinely can’t tell!
Are you crazy this is an Acapella of course she is singing live
She killed it! That was awesome
An amazing song which is so true
Omggg my heart literally sunk at 0:15 when I heard that frequency noise! Those were the years or recording 🥲🥲🥲🥲😳👀🥺
I remember this Was when Mariah could sing w/o yelling
Delusional

Hard to believe- 31 years ago. Sheesh… where does time go? She is so amazing. 👍👍👍
Had problems with audio on the stage. But anyway again she nailed it!. I love you MC 💗🌈

God she reminds me so much of MJ in Dirty Diana video
Wow…still gives you the chills.
You can see she is incredibly nervous but she still absolutely slayed this.
historians call this moment the ascension of the queen
