Garvellach Isles Dive Trip
Members of Clydebank Sub Aqua Club enjoyed a brilliantly sunny day on 21st September, so took the chance to dive the Garvellach Isles off the west coast of Scotland. We took our club boat from Craobh Haven, through the Grey Dog Tidal Race to the south end of the Garvellachs. Unfortunately, the underwater visibility at this site was very poor, but the 2nd site, at "Eagle Drop" was much better!! Here is a short video of our day.

A May 2024 holiday to Puerto de Soller in NW Mallorca, Spain resulted in 6 dives over 3 days in the local waters. Marine life prolific with reefs, massive boulders, trenches, tunnels and caves to explore. With underwater visibility around 25-30metres there was plenty to see and enjoy. Well worth a visit.

An August diving weekend by members of Clydebank Sub Aqua Club (CSAC) took us to the wreck of SS Tapti at the SE corner of the Island of Coll, in the inner Hebrides. Here is a 6 minute video featuring CSAC divers and lots of colourful fish, mainly Pollock Ballan wrasse and male & female Cuckoo wrasse.

Adam's Reef & Stallion Rock May 23

A short video featuring the spectacular Loch Fyne cliff faces at "Adam's Reef" and "Stallion Rock". These reefs drop almost vertically in places, to a depth of 32 metres and then a steep muddy/sandy slope to much deeper. The underwater visibility on this particular day was 10-15metres. Though not many fish around, the "still life" was also quite rewarding.

    I was there in 1998 and it still stands out as the most spectacular diving I have ever had the pleasure to do. Didn't see any porpoise or reef sharks but I did get to see a few hammerheads swim by. Fantastic walls and they do drop off into oblivion. I went to 205' and there was no end to the depths so don't bother trying to find the bottom, there isn't one ; ). If you seek a luxury resort with a splashy high-energy atmosphere then you will be disappointed. If you want to find diving that will amaze you to the core like nothing you have seen then make the trip. I promise the journey will be worth it.

    Wow what an amazing looking dive. So much busy activity going on and you caught so much interesting behaviour of thie fish. It did seem at one point like a game of hide and seek lol. The barracudas were a bit scary. Ive heard they can be a bit aggresive at times. Visibility looked great. I have tk say that 'museum' was unbelievable. What a amamazing thing to be part of and so many thought provoking pieces. The peope on the boat and the citcle of twisted bodies got me..especially with whats going on in the world just now. You are all so lucky to see places like this. I dont know why scotland doesnt have something like that for divers or even snorkelers. Some great dives. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks for taking us along. Take care 👍😃🤿👌

      Glad you enjoyed the video. It was a composite of 10 dives over a week. The Barracuda were quite relaxed about my presence. Like most creatures in the sea, if you treat them with respect and care, they will not be aggressive, though they may be inquisitive!!!! Besides, a diver is bigger than most creatures. However, sharks do need particular attention and a great deal of care!

    • @ScottsLand
      @ScottsLand 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @keith_waugh Would be a nice thought to have something like that here but your right the waters are probably very different and alot murkier. I think we don't promote snorkeling and diving in our waters as much as we maybe should. We are surrounded by water and from your videos some extraordinary sea life and places to see. It looks like people want to go to warmer waters and at times don't blame them lol. I really want to get into some snorkeling but can never find the time 🤦‍♂️🤣 I have all the bits but haven't used the wetsuit yet. Definitely a new year's resolution for next year lol. Your videos are fantastic showcasing what's out there. Happy and safe diving 👍😃🤿👌

    Beautiful video as always Keith, thanks! It's always bugged me when people say "I don't want to dive in the UK, it's too cold" or "there isn't anything to see" etc. It's so ignorant and small minded, the beauty and biodiversity of the north east Atlantic is absolutely stunning. Just because the water isn't 22°C and there's no clownfish or turtles doesn't mean it's not worth a look!

    What's the max depth here?

    • @keith_waugh
      @keith_waugh ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a popular training site. New trainee divers are often taken here for their first few dives. The seabed slopes gently from the surface down to around 40 metres and is mainly sand, rubble and mud. The only interest are parts of the submerged structure of the collapsed old pier. Visibility is often only around 3-4 metres. I was very lucky with visibility on the day I took this video. There is nothing of particular interest beyond about 25 metres. Bear in mind that the Finnart Deep Water Oil Tanker Terminal is literally 400 metres away!!!!

    • @jaimieboy999
      @jaimieboy999 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keith_waugh yeah I did think it would be pretty deep around where that tanker is. I'm looking somewhere with a bit of depth. You dived conger ally? I'm trying to plan a few trips up. I live in Dunbar south east and have the likes of st abbs ect. Is there anyone up that way I could buddy up with? I usual solo dive a lot but I want to have someone to share the experience with or has a bit of knowledge of the area so I don't spend most of the time lost underwater.

    • @keith_waugh
      @keith_waugh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaimieboy999 I have dived "Conger Alley", it's actually called "Ali's Reef" on account of a friend of mine, Ali Abubakar, who, back in the 70's, built an artificial reef of old car tyres, to try to attract Conger Eels. It worked for quite a number of years. Most of my dives are with my Club, Clydebank Sub Aqua Club, or a group of retired friends from Scotsac. I suggest that you put a Facebook post on the "West Coast Divers" Facebook page, which attracts many divers, both club divers and independent (solo) divers. You are very lucky to be so close to St Abbs/Eyemouth. We don't get over there as often as I would like. Cheers
