How Local Power Shapes Everything with Eitan Hersh | Boston Leaders Unplugged #5
JEREMY BURTON x EITAN HERSH, PHD
Why is it that the majority of people - even those who consider themselves to be civically engaged - are no longer aware of who is actually effecting change in their communities? We sat down with Eitan Hersh, professor of political science at Tufts; whose research focuses on US elections and civic participation, to uncover how the generational shift in local influence and in perceptions of local influence can impact the long-term health of our community.

    The data and research shows that the places with the strictest gun laws are the same ones experiencing more gun violence. There’s already a huge useless infrastructure called the atf that’s been made for this. Train with a gun and that will be the best way to ensure your safety not trying to make useless laws

    Make sure the people have full access to weapons of protection while the Left defunds the police and no-bails criminals onto the streets after egregious violation of the law.

    No racial disparity. At all. Equally poor blacks are involved in more murder than equally poor whites despite being a significantly smaller population

    The threat of legal gun violence controls the use of illegal gun violence

  • @BlakDragon-gt6sd
    @BlakDragon-gt6sd 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is more gun violence in blue cities that have the most gun restrictions than there is in the reast of America. Gun control is not the answer.

    • @bostonjcrc
      @bostonjcrc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gun violence legislation is typically enacted at the state level, and the data do indicate a clear correlation between smart gun policies and lower rates of gun violence in states that have them (such as blue states like Massachusetts). However, to your point about cities - most big cities, both blue and red, face similar rates of gun violence in underfunded and inequitable neighborhoods, especially in cities with more of these disparate communities. Check out the full podcast on our channel, where we discuss the on-the-ground community work that is being done - beyond simply advocating for legislation - to better equip communities and mitigate this risk!

      @bostonjcrc tell that to Chicago. They have some of the strictest gun laws but have one of the highest gun deaths. Reality most really suck for you.

    • @bostonjcrc
      @bostonjcrc 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely! Large cities with many underfunded and disparate communities really suffer. We’re lucky to have many people doing wonderful community work here in Massachusetts to ensure we remain the gold standard for our nation, but it is important to stress that unique communities need to be understood individually, and the policy interventions must go hand in hand with the community work to make an impact. Watch the episode and see the important work being done :)
