I don't understand why people do this. I just had to do a valve cover on our 2009 Sentra with 160k miles. The top end of the engine was squeaky clean with no sludge. I make sure to change the oil ever 5k with synthetic oil and a good filter. It's cheap and easy insurance to make the car run great.

There are sludge remover products for cars that could remove most if not all the sludge from this engine.

Unfortunately in Europe the Dealers say they know nothing about Custom Mode 2.

Thanks for the very informative video! Seems there are quite a number of 200’s doing the same now and egr/injector/Dpf issues are becoming more commonplace. Surely cannot keep replacing and expecting a different outcome! So what is the answer other than the obvious to sell?????

This is very common on leased cars. People simply don't care about service because it's a short-term contact.

I did the sludge look on a Corolla I checked out for my son. I put the fill cap back on and simply said "this one's not for us." Best move I ever made on a used car. Toyota has statistically been best for me, but just because it's a Toyota doesn't mean you don't have a look. Thanks for posting this!

Full synthetic, 5,000 mile max oil change interval, new filter at every oil change, no problems.

Oh lord... never ever wash an engine with a pressure washer! Not even running water. Get yourself a cloth.

If people desperately want to spend less time for oil change in their toyota, they may use ACEA Long drain interval oil for their toyota and change it every 10,000 miles.

This reminds me of so many people on the car forums arguing about oil change intervals. Angrily they assert you should go 10,000 miles between changes and everything else is a waste of money. Then insist that people who only go 5,000 mile intervals are stupid and enjoy wasting their cash. Probably the guy who drove this sludge-mobile is one of them.

In my DIY opinion, this engine is still ok. I would WASH the engine from inside by change new oil and oil filter, run it for 30 mins, then change new oil and new oil filter again....10 times like that the engine will be good again. 10 times of changing new oil and filter costs you about AUS$ 700.

Might be normal for all LC300’s with their experimental hot V engine to burn 30% of its oil capacity between services, but not normal for a well designed engine. 🤨 Geez, that oil usage is getting into my old Jaguar territory! At least with that I knew where the 2L of oil went…. usually all over the garage floor..🤣 Not just burnt away into ozone depleting fumes. C’mon Toyota, you’re not doing yourself any favours. 🫣
