The Past as Present with Ravi Gupta
How we see the past shapes our understanding of the present. Scholarship defines the past as something shaped by temporal human forces, primarily politics, power, and market trends. Wisdom traditions, on the other hand, see the past as shaped by universal, timeless truths. In this dialog, religious studies professor Ravi Gupta and host Joshua Greene explore competing narratives of the past, the...

Isopanishad 18 - Mantras Seventeen & Eighteen
In these final moments, the speaker of Isopanisad makes reference to his own death. “Let this body be burnt to ashes,” he prays, “and make clear my path to you, O Supreme Being.” The urgency of these final mantras underscores a truth of all contemplative traditions: there is a place beyond scientific inquiry, a place beyond logic and reason, a place beyond embodied existence-a place where souls...
Isopanishad 17 - Mantras Fifteen & Sixteen: Levels of God Realization
In a dramatic turn from philosophy to prayer, the speaker of Isopanisad directly addresses the object of his love and devotion. “O Supreme Being, please remove your glaring effulgence that I may see your face.” The emotion of this plea informs the foundational truth of Bhakti theology: that of the three levels of God realization-impersonal Brahman energy, localized Paramatma in the hearts of al...
Isopanishad 16 - Mantra Fourteen
How can a revered commentator create a translation that veers so far from the technical vocabulary of a mantra or verse? Is the preferred path not instead to adhere as close as possible to the technical meaning of the words? Not always. Some subjects-particularly when it comes to yoga and affairs of the heart-deserve more than technical treatment. One who knows Krishna, who knows His intentions...
Isopanishad 15 - Mantra Thirteen
Why do mantras 10 and 13 read almost identical? Repetition occurs when something is important enough to be repeated, to reinforce comprehension of the meaning and embed an idea deeply in listeners. The speaker of Isopanisad also uses repetition to underscore the importance of two parallel themes: knowledge and faith. There are consequences to mistaking avidya for vidya; just as there are conseq...
Isopanishad 14 - Mantra Twelve
Time may change the external context of wisdom, but not its internal essence. Since before recorded history, we humans have sought to understand the complexity of creation with simplistic tools of observation and analysis. We who live in a four-dimensional reality (three spatial plus time) are obliged to recognize that ultimate truth contains more dimensions than we can calculate-which is why t...
Isopanishad 13 - Mantra Eleven
How do the teachings of Isopanisad translate into practical application? What does it mean to “culture side by side vidya and avidya,” knowledge of matter and transcendence? Raymond Brown and Wanda Aiken of he International Justice Project had this to say about seeing deeper into the issues that challenge us: “When hostilities on a personal level are overshadowed by conditions that threatened b...
Isopanishad 12 - Mantras Nine & Ten: The Culture of Knowledge
Mantras 9 and 10 of Isopanisad caution us to create a balance: material pursuits tempered by spiritual practices, and spiritual practice grounded in real-world application. To achieve balance, teachers from the past have urged that we remember the resource of prayer. Whenever uncertainty impedes progress, Isa-the voice of higher wisdom residing in our hearts-responds to a heartfelt appeal, as f...
Isopanishad 11 - Q&A: Home worship, personal divinity, Hare Krishna mantra and more
Last night, we continued our discussion concerning the nature of non-material personhood and, in particular, the difference between idolatry and archana-seva: the meditative practice of communing with Divinity through deity representation. Isopanisad seeks to elevate yogis from the initial stage of kanistha-adhikari (beginner status) to madhyama-adhikari (intermediate status). One difference be...
Isopanishad 10 - Mantra Eight: Deities and Idols
This mantra underscores the foundational premise of Isopanisad-and of all bhakti texts-that behind creation is a creator capable of making Himself known through His energies. Acceptance of a personal divinity who reveals Himself to humanity is, without question, the single greatest hurdle on the path to enlightenment. Why? Because a personal divinity is easily misconstrued as an idol, which all...

What happens to the soul after liberation?
A Hero!
I practice bhakti yoga for the last 30 years, and I am very lonely, I went through a lot and I desperately need to have friends, I ended up being a therapist, but I haven't started working with it yet, if you could help me to have an association it would be very good, my only problem is that I understood very well how iskcon works, and I have a hard time associating with people who follow these scammers.
Wow!❤ Thank you for an incredible sharing _PURE INSPIRATION!❤️✨
Fantastic interview. Iain is one of my artistic inspiration and heroes. On my bucket list to meet and share art and life observations with.
Brilliant conversation. So inspiring. This will completely change the way I tell stories from now on.
Hare Krishna! Absolutely loved this. I've heard her speak on Trauma and it's connection to spiritual life in Spanish. Would love to hear her talk about this in English. Any chance? 😅🙏

Ian mccaig..?? Yes..I will watch..
Thank you for this interview. I search for new interviews of Iain McCaig, being a artist myself and he, along with Alan Lee, being a inspiration for me for decades. I have followed a spiritual path since I was born and it has thrown me many challenges. For me, my connection to Iain is not just because of his art and storytelling but also because of his openness and honesty about the supernormal, I've had numerous experiances; but I often find the fantasy community can be superficail and disregard the reality of such experiances. To use a English phrase, it begeggars belief! Thank you for asking the question of essentially how do you still remain poistive, I wonder if we are all born into energy sytems and these maybe non-challenging or challenging, to provide us with a set of beliefs and questions to move forward with and question. I was brought up in Liverpool, I'm a Scouser, my Dad was highly abusive and so too became both parents. Shit happens and I got through it, one of the key attitudes to being an artist is to step away from the thing we are creating and observe it with a fresh eye. Life is a challenege but I'm grateful for what it has taught me.
Wonderful invitation to cultivate a new reality by articulating the soul’s passions. Thank you, Ian. Thank you as always, Joshua and Alicia. ❤️🐬🐳
I love listening to Iain mccaig talk. He is so positive I whish I could be like him haha
Wonderful, Iain. Your words, your ideas and, above all, your enthusiasm have always been contagious. You make us all feel “Yes, we can do this too! We can write, we can draw, we can communicate.” We only get to see each other every five years or so. Just wish it could be more. As you have a unique way of making us all feel positive, not only about ourselves and our creative work but about our lives too!

This was instructional! I've been trying to research for a TH-cam vid like yours that educates everything in this TH-cam vid. 🥼 👩⚕️ The part at 1:15 is my favorite. Your content is like the content of Dr. Ethan. Doctor Ethan's demonstrations are really insightful and I really learned a lot for my practice. He is an educational med student on TH-cam and he talks about mental health and medical school. I suggest you check out his page out and give Dr Ethan a subscribe! ➡️ #DrEthanEducation
