I FROZE the watermelon purée and kombucha to create the lye solution so that it would not overheat or scorch. I did treat it a lot like I would a milk lye solution. it's liquid again after you mix it with your lye, so nothing to figure out, but I can understand why someone would want to check. Volume increases when frozen (& ice is less dense so will float in water), but the weight does not change at all. Your scale may have been off by a gram, which isn't uncommon really, but no, frozen water does not change in weight.
I had no idea this would be such an interesting topic-many have been engaging on it across the different socials. 😊 I tested several times and got the same results each time. Frozen weighed less than liquid. I also had studied this several years ago when researching initial stages of soap making. Found many many many articles that stated the same. Ice changes density but also weight. Always so much to learn! ☺️
