My son and I both went with Anakin for our prerelease last night. My son went 3-0 and I went 2-1 with my only loss being super close. I had a subpar card pool, but anakins ability to have units trade up does so much work in the early and mid game.

Anakin dominated my prerelease last night. Top 4 of 24 players was Anakin, all undefeated until the final round.

Oof. Anakin in "C" feels very wrong. Maybe I'm missing something? He seems so good at trading up and has amazing potential as a finisher. So much better than Asajj in limited since she seems to need more of a build-around.

Anakin and Maul are my top 2 choices. I also like the idea of Jango Fett with the right card pool. But yeah, I agree, I think you’re underestimating the power of Anakin Skywalker.

I think you're drastically underestimating Anakin. Compare the unit side to Maul. Both come out on 6. Anakin is likely at least a 6 attack - maybe up to 8. He is also has more hp. Both have Overwhelm. Then let's compare the Anakin leader ability - you give up 2 health to be able to significantly trade up on a kill. Let's say that Anakin and Maul are facing off and each player has a 2/2 and a 4/4 on the table. Walk through the various scenarios (Maul attacks first versus Anakin attacking first, attacking with a 2/2 or 4/4 first, etc...) and see who ends up looking better at the end of the round. Yoda, Anakin and Palps top my list of leaders I'd want to play if the cards support it in my prerelease events.

I would have gone with Ahsoka instead of Mace - you could very consistently get her coordinate online (as well as better help other coordinates to trigger), and her body would be so tough early on to deal with - also allowing you to protect some of your buffing midrange units. Also, I would definitely run Maul out of aspect in here.

You can exhaust the unit you're attacking with Jango as leader. I just wanted to clarify that Jango does not have to be a two-card-hoop-jump.

Xander is a beauty. Also, counting down on giant dice is so annoying

With the amount of generic villainy, I think there was some opportunity for that Palpatine Red. Your top end would have been great with Dooku & Maul, as well as the heroic red ships (that would benefit from Palps token generation) and Invisible Hand. Only question would have been turn 1/2 heroic plays.

i feel like since jango doesn't specify combat damage, playing darth maul and dooku would've been better with jango than grievious ( i dond't know if it that relevent in limited but still) but also, it depends on the number of droid unit you got in your boosters

One note - Set 1 Jabba unit only looks for Trick events and not upgrades - so would not be able to pull 'On Top of Things'. :(

Really enjoyed the chat - was able to listen in full as I had an extended car trip this weekend. One thing I very much appreciate is the overall positivity you both take towards new cards - especially during preview season. There are other content creators that will make harsh snap judgements and not really allow the cards to be seen within the full context of the set. Whereas I feel both of you take an approach that respects the designers and understands cards have different roles - some are intended more for premier... some for limited... and they all have value. It helps build excitement for the new set rather than being Debby Downer. So props to you both!

At 19:35, Doa declares an attack with Rey, but does not specify what he is attacking, adds the XP to village protectors, and Charm3r does not add 2 damage to anything on his board. Then, a minute later, Doa asked about whether he had added 3 damage to base, so Charm3r then adds 3 when it should have been only 2 because Rey had no XP.

I can’t emphasize enough Charmer’s point of the importance of knowing your role relative to your opponent’s. The games where I do the worst are the ones where I cannot discern who is the “beat down” early, or even worse, misperceive who is the “beat down” and so make poor play decisions.

Hmm... maybe I'm missing something, but in the last game on Doa's flip turn with Rey, he gave the XP from Rey's on attack to the Village Protectors instead of Rey. I think that means Rey should have only done 2 DMG to Charm3r's base.

As a new player, I was really excited for this one, but Doa's take on The Acolyte was, sadly, a major turn off. I kind of shut off the video after that take. I have really enjoyed this channel/podcast for the last few months as I've been learning about the game, and I've also liked the professionalism throughout (at least the recent episodes, which have just been you two; not a fan of one of the original hosts). Why? Because it often does not feel like your typical bro-fest of Star Wars nerds and CCG nerds, which can be extremely off-putting. Which brings me to this episode. One can dislike The Acolyte, one can dislike anything in Star Wars. I was an OG fan as a child, seeing all of them on release in the theater. The prequels were off-putting and I still find them really poor, though I've grown to see them through others' eyes (my kids', but also the people who grew up with them). And I suppose I'd like to suggest that one take The Acolyte similarly, as Charmer pointed out. It does some really great things with the world and takes some great risks which, in my opinion, Star Wars needs to do. Where I feel bummed out is now feeling like this positive, professional space about a game is now sullied by that kind of bro-thinking about Star Wars. It's not a coincidence that all of the loudest, chuckling, laugh-emoji dropping people about this series are white men. And I suppose I resent that a channel/podcast that I thought was above that particular culture war fray has now jumped into it. I was here to find out some tips to help me as a new player of the game, but now I don't particularly trust the motives/tastes of the people sharing those tips. I guess I'll go elsewhere for that in the future. (Edit: The more I read about the history of the channel and Flake, I guess I must have misunderstood what kind of gaming culture waters I was wading into here. I'll see myself out).

You guys missed like 6 damage to Qi'ra's base in the second game. Great commentary, but it distracted you from a few moves

Also why don’t you ask the winner each week to flip there camera recording in the app that way they will be on the same side

For the marker on cards in hand when I put them down I use a dice and put the number to how many cards are in the pile so the opponent can see easily
