Of course the weather is bad, it's way up North - what do you expect? I was born there and moved when I was 16 to Australia and people complain here about the weather too - it's too hot blah blah blah. Seems to me that most people like to complain about the city they live in. Aberdeen has character - and the granite sparkles in the sun, sure it gets cold but instead of complaining, embrace it!!!!!! And aberdeenangel - perhaps it's you that is rude to others? Just saying.... :)

In short theres far worse places to be, especially in Scotland. At least its not Dundee :) Appreciate it for what it is - a historic, prosperous and affluent Scottish city.

Aberdeen isn't so bad... lots of nice architecture and history, European capital of oil & gas etc, an Ancient University, a not so Ancient University, plenty of work, lots of public spaces all well kept - parks etc, relatively low crime in the centre. Bad parts are the weather , the traffic which cripples the city every morning and evening, the cost of housing, the cost of council tax, the thousands of junkies and general scum causing trouble and the corruption in the local government.

I know the song your Granda was singing. It is a very well known song up here. As for the best time for seeing the Northern lights i don't know if there is a best time, have looked on the net and can't find anything on the best time to see them. I have only seen them a few times and i'm 32.

Aberdeen is a great and very historic city. Each to their own i say but personally i love it. (Aberdonian born and bred!!)

i live near Aberdeen and i have to admit i love it! Even though yes it is grey and dull i still love it theres something about it thats really great not sure what exactly but hey i love it!

I agree with jam jar. I live in Aberdeen centre and travel with my ob and there is some shit holes out there and quite thankfull i live Aberdeen. To be honest Aberdeen is not that miserable unless its raining and we had a cracking summer this year. And how many citys can you live in where the country is only a 20 mins drive away.
