But the Players ARE! Coaches don't play on the field, or participate in the plays. If you have quality level FBS type Players in the MEAC then, you have a damn good chance of beating Teams, with good FCS Players. Straight-up!!

Mr. 32K and @truthseerkr5591, I did not attend an HBCU, but I became a fan of one when my best friend started teaching at NCAT! I don't understand why you're bringing up JSU's name in controversial topics, which is causing unnecessary drama. When the fanbase responds, you call it messy! After the first year of BOTY, many viewers discussed which band was better, and most said it was Jackson State University’s band. That school has moved on! If they’re still posting about it, it’s because people continue to provoke them. If they claim to have a better band, why shouldn’t they respond? Only sensible and mature individuals recognize that the JSU community is passionate about everything related to their university! Additionally, Southern, Grambling, Alcorn, and FAMU also fiercely support their schools, and I appreciate that! Every TH-cam commentator I follow has been critiquing and reviewing bands for years! They have all expressed concerns about how ESPN handles its weekly rankings. It would be wise to start there for answers, as they tend to do a better job than the ESPN judges. Too much politics comes into play when a National Brand Name is involved! Stop blaming one group of people just because their fanbase passionately supports their school. If the show fails, they'll label JSU as the reason! It's time to stop that! Every time something positive happens for them and they celebrate, the negativity follows. People concoct ridiculous stories to stir up drama! Let that institution celebrate its monumental achievements in peace! My main issue with ESPN's involvement is that it should have solely featured MEAC and SWAC bands; it's a celebration of both conferences. You don't see MEAC in this because ESPN isn’t choosing to highlight them. That’s the real question you should be asking! Both HONDA and HOUSTON, as BOTBs, put on better productions! As Black people, we react strongly when other cultures outside of HBCUs copy our culture and receive more attention for it! This happens because too many of you are naive and fail to recognize when it’s happening. It's time to be more aware and understand what's going on!

The JSU band decided at the start of the season to NOT participate in this event. No videos were submitted to BOTY and the JSU band was put on the list despite this.

Oh we already knew that. I've always used this analogy to describe that: JSUs trumpet section is praised in the SWAC and receives nothing but praise. however FAMU could have JSUs trumpet section tomorrow and people would say "well trumpets are kinda sharp, and they're skating, and they sound bad".

@@diminuendo61funny thing is famu band trumpets is comparable to jsu , famu has one of the best trumpets sections to me already shit if being honest all there sections are strong they have different styles of play people think jsu is better because they scream more and that’s not why if they even are I don’t think so but I have a preference and I acknowledge that

Plus the event is only in its second year and had an amazing turnout (especially compared to last year) so clearly field shows are still cared about. The competition isn't in favor of SWAC bands, cry about it. Not everything is about the SWAC. Yall want everything to be a monolith so bad.

There are all kinds of reviewers/band heads on social media and I'm happy they are bringing exposure to these bands and encouraging young people to be in band and develop their craft. Hmmm As a DSU alum and member of EOS… none of those cadences would have put this battle out of reach. Our old material doesn’t have the rudimental vocabulary to distance us from drumlines like VSU, NSU, or A&T. What made this battle a true win for VSU was the lack of cleanliness in our material. DSU has continue grow in being poised and producing clean and mature sound during these battles.

​​@@Peez22I believe your wrong. EOS has always had cadences for both rudimental and sticking difficulty. Most new EOS drummers dont know all of EOS challenge material. In challenging drumlines like CS, Mdfs, or NC Central. Their must be a mixture bro. Cadences like Hand solo, Challenger, Spellbound, No Name, Pump it up, and Chicago must come out of extinction if you guys are going to compete.

@@estokes3663I respect your belief, but as a member who marched for the section and played most of those cadences against those schools in the early 2000s (which wasn’t successful then), AND as the Drum Instructor who changed the style of DSU to what you see here (I am no longer there but most of that material is my writing). I saw that music has evolved and percussion for the East Coast HBCUs has evolved TREMENDOUSLY. DSU was getting left in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. We had to evolve to actually compete. We played some of those cadences for our Alum at homecoming during my time but they haven’t gotten to them. I believe they do need to come back but not for Battle purposes, they need to know their history and play them in the stands and during Homecoming so the alum can feel at home and build connection with the young ones who are playing now! However, THOSE cadences couldn’t hold a candle to NSU, A&T, SCSU, or BCU. Honestly they wouldn’t give us any separation from Morgan either. If you stop growing you are stagnant, and that is exactly what we were for too long. But again I respect your beliefs…

⁠@@estokes3663I marched from 2016-2020 and was section leader 2018-2020 . And none of the traditional material would work in today’s battles. We elevated our thinking and playing which helped us reach a new level of playing to a collegiate level. We still incorporated older material into our repertoire but it wouldn’t be used in our battle blocks. When was the last time you came around?

The Only Two Things That Got Disrespected Was DSU’s Drumline And My Ears When I Heard DSU’s Drumline🤦🏾‍♂️

Both lines were EXTREMELY dirty. Degree of difficulty definitely goes to VSU. All of the material from DSU was not at a high degree of difficulty. But BOTH definitely need more on the cleanliness side!
