Patch test: testing to see how the skin reacts to the product either by it getting red or itchy.
A patch test is done before the initial procedure to determine if a client may react to any of the products used. This is done by swiping products on the Epidermis (top layer of skin). If a client shows a reaction on this layer they will most likely get a reaction when the needle is punctured into the Dermis (layer beneath the Epidermis) and you should not continue with procedure. Keep in mind it can take anywhere from 24 - 72 hours for reactions to show but sometimes longer. Not getting a reaction during a patch test does not guarantee you won't get one during the procedure.
STEPS FOR A PATCH TEST
Step One
Cleanse with alcohol swab on the area you will be doing the patch test on, either the neck, back of forearm or if client is comfortable with walking around with product on the eyebrows, that would be safest best. Most popular will be forearm.
Step Two
Swipe a small amount of Topical Numbing, pigment and aftercare on the area. Cover with sterile Tegaderm film and advise client to leave on for 24 hours. If a reaction occurs to immediately remove the Tegaderm film and wash off product immediately.
If client does not get a reaction but is still unsure, the only real way of knowing is actually getting the procedure done, so tattoo a small dot or shade a tiny area as you would during a regular eyebrow procedure and see if client reacts during the healing time. If the client reacts, do not proceed with the service.
Alternatively they can also get a Scratch Test from a medical professional that can test them for all the possible allergies they may have.
