Watched it at my local university cinema in 2018 and it's one of the few WWI films I know of to show how the conflict strained Germany's economy and food supply back home.

You should do a review/film synopsis of it. There’s not one on TH-cam as far as I can see and it’s a great film. Up there with all quiet.

I totally agree. Just finished watching the movie, and I’d have to say I was amazed at all the details and messages in a 1930s film. Very bold and progressive for the time it seems. It portrays the human and civilian side of war. Great film I highly recommend watching it!

@@timothythompson8269 I didn’t know it was withdrawal till after I woke up in the psych ward. I thought I was in some James Bond international suspense novel. I had been flown against my will to a military base and I was trying to break free. Stole a helicopter and crashed it into a pond. Was in the process of drowning when I came to in the hospital psych ward. Turns out I had been out in the yard in my underwear with a full auto Mac surveilling the elderly neighbors 🤗🤗. He called my people instead of the man. Lucky me🤣. The sensation of flying was surreal though. It felt more real than real.

Great video. If you haven't watched the 04 version still, it's worth it. It's about as long as the original. Some things are changed and the special effects are iffy. But they include a lot of scenes from the book that weren't touched on in the original. Especially the Dud Rodgers character, whom in the book is the first person to meet Barlow at the dump. The Barlow and Straker in the 04 version are almost perfectly aligned with the novel , especially the scene in mark's house where he breaks in through the window! They did that whole scene almost exactly as king told it even down to Barlow speaking his lines and him and Callahans dialogue at the scenes end.

Thank you for this (a year later, I know) I watched the original last night and the remake today. Wow what a difference. Like the studios wanted a feel good, good guys defeat bad guys without any substance. Action with no taste! (great cinematography tho) I'm considering reading the book now. I saw HBO had a sequel but I assume it was a cash grab. Anyways thanks for not making this 45+ mins long. Subbed!

I don't see why they can't just remake it and make it take place in the 1970s, again!! It really could have a retro grittiness about it while being truer to the original novel.

I have to disagree with you re: Billy Nolan. I thought John Travolta was terrific in the film. Even King himself said Travolta played the part the way he wished he had written him. Nolan in the book was too obvious as a villain. A grinning, silly redneck is much more terrifying because he’s realistic. The goofiness of the character ultimately makes his actions far more disturbing.

1979 and 2004 both had great elements and also flop moments. Frank Darabont nails King to Film. Why not give it over to him? Ryerson 79 epic. Dud 2004 epic. Danny Glick window 79 epic. Sutherland 2004 epic. A head vampire still needed. Nosferatu is great, Tobe Hooper is a king but not of this story. Barlow is only in key moments and there are few of them and he also has great dialogue that can't be hissed. He plants the seed of darkness in the Lot. Jump scares can go to the other vamps. To the morgue scene etc. 2024 Rethink this along with Marjorie Glick. She's not a hot suburban Mom. Read the damn book, film makers.

The book is very slow to start, compared to the serial film, but I expect that from King, look how long The Shining takes. I like how the little town atmosphere is gradually infected, and the gradual turn of the close knit community into a feeding ground for the multiplying vampires, where even children and babies are not spared. Great book, and great film at the time which is the only film I would like to see as a remake. I only hope they don't push diversity into it at the expense of the feel of the movie, and the writers actually read the story before re-inventing it as something else 🙃

Netflix needs to license this property as well as Christine and turn them into a 6 or 7 part series. Make them period pieces, even adding a grainy filmstock effect to maintain the illusion of the time period.

Just finished reading the novel. Tonight I watched the 3 hour mini series movie type thing. Loved the book, movie wasn't great too but definitely missing that soul the book had. Backstories on folks makes you like them. Father Callahan, in the movie just isn't there. Anyway for anyone reading this far into my comment another great book I've read recently is Brother by Ania Ahlborn. Absolutely loved it. Horror/ Thriller.

This was the second book I read once I began reading books for my own pleasure, back in 1977. (the first was "Carrie". See a pattern?) Excellent, scary book. Not so scary TV miniseries, but it does have a few excellent scenes and it's worth a watch I think. And you're right on paper, the adaptation was very good. (Hoopers directing was mostly lackluster and VERY 70's made for TV movie in its approach. Mostly, no mood.) They even use some exact dialogue from the book. How do I know that? I'm re-reading the book right now for the first time since '77! Very nice breakdown, even through. those fangs!! Cheers!
