Id argue meta techniques come from real detective logical analysis. If someone noticed that a serial killer always washed his hands with the victim's kitchen sink and made a mess, it could become a trademark of said serial killer. And checking the sink for clues might end up getting you something like dna or fingerprints or whatnot. Same difference with meta analysis, except instead of analysing the killer, you're analysing the game. Regardless it still comes from logical thinking. And figuring stuff out early as long as it isn't the answer straight up is good, players can feel rewarded. Other people have argued for early sequence breaks already so I'll leave it at that.

This was a really fun ride watching this series, and I really like how your formatted and scripted it (even though I mentioned in previous episodes some issues I had with specific parts). I'm glad you made this and really glad you got who you did to help out. Everyone was really entertaining and funny. I wish we got to know why Sophia helped the MC instead of the PI (or maybe she tried but for whatever reason it didn't work or he couldn't see her). And I wish we got to know if Matthew ever knew about her haunting the town and why she'd sort of betray him in the end. Obviously because he's a murderer and the MC was an innocent person, but the story feels lacking that their relationship is built up so much to the point people can sympathize with Matthew but we never get to know when Sophia's feelings changed or how she even felt about her own murder (maybe she, like her son, never truly blamed them and just saw it as an unfortunate accident. Maybe she even accepted it as punishment for the cheating - but that's all speculation, we never actually get to know which I find disappointing). And I wish we got to know why Matthew was just staying in the town and thinking he could just murder anyone and everyone that tried to find the truth. I know he probably wanted to stay near Sophia, but how is he getting food and electricity and water and all that? How is he making money to pay bills and buy life necessities? And I guess the darkest question I have is that perhaps even before the PI arrived (but maybe after, I can't recall how soon after the murders he came to town) is why didn't Matthew just end his own life? Everyone he wanted revenge on he got. So what is he now living for? I wish we got to know these things in more detail. Edit - I do also strongly disagree with your take games like Dark Souls don't need an easy mode. As someone with physical limitations I believe including as many quality of life options/accessibility options is best practice. Video games are about having fun. It isn't fun to not be able to play games that become cultural touchstones because of not physically being able to. People who don't have these issues need not use them (just like not needing to look up a guide). But if it makes it more fun for them, who cares? Just my two cents (and obviously some of the games do have those options, I'm just speaking in broad terms)

Im mixed on this. On one hand I agree, the backdoor thing was a pretty neat idea. On the other hand, it should have been disclosed within the game or steam page, with an option to turn it on or off. Doesn't matter how "cool" it is, this is still someone else taking control of a PC without their knowledge and it's understandable people aren't too thrilled about this. I don't care what safety precautions are in place: The dev deserved all the backlash he got. All of this could have been avoided with a simple disclaimer upon starting the game, he consciously chose not to include it, and it was a poor decision and had consequences which were deserved. The vision was great but the execution was very, very poorly thought out. "I'm going to make the average consumer, who doesn't know jack about tech stuff, think I'm hacking into their PC, and then act surprised and upset when these same consumer accuse me of hacking into their PC" Yeah... No this was just blatantly stupid and naive on their part.

If the dev had just made this a 'special mode' where you are agreeing to potentially have your game fucked w, ppl would have celebrated it as a cool innovative feature. Instead he decided to manipulate the behavior of someone's pc to 'troll' them cuz he got his fee fees hurt and made villain of himself. It's a shame.

I've had interactions w ppl that do the type of shit this dev did before. They eventually get caught n held responsible for their actions, but always seem super surprised that what they did resulted in backlash or even legal action.

I have so much to say but first off, great stuff as always my guy, and 300K views, that is amazing. Watching this reminded me why I stopped watching Markiplier play this in the first place: it terrified me. Hell even watching this I opted to stop this video and wait till morning to watch it, because stuff like this ramps up my paranoia and sleep becomes impossible. That was about 6 days ago since I kept remembering it as kept coming back, so I would put it off. As for the controversy, I am gonna have my own controversial take, but I think I would be more fun for games like this to give devs the ability to mess with the game as people play it. Keep in mind I understand people's fear of stealing data and such, but if there is a way to make it free of those dangers it would be good to elevate the experience of horror games. Trolling streamers is what I call a good time and if I were a dev I would do that to have a little fun at their expense. Kind of like how twitch integration in games works now. On the subject of Adam himself, I get it. I have lost my temper before and done things I regret, so I don't hold that against him. Side note: I always imagine situations like these where the horror scenario is flipped on it's head. So at first we follow the horrors of deep web killers as they stalk a guy who is just some helpless shmuck, only for it to be revealed that that guy is some kind of legend himself, and the roles become reversed, in a "the hunters have become the hunted" situation.

I dont think a game can be too scary, if youre talking about should a game hack u or harm u for the sake of horror, then unless u ask for that experience urself ( for some fucking reason ), then yes, a game can be too scary in that regard, but no matter how much gore, how fucked up the themes are, how wacky the gameplay is, what subject it tackles, I think as long as ur intent is not to harm anyone, no matter how weird or fucked up ur idea for a horror game is, u should go for it, the magic of video games is that it allows us to experience things we otherwise cant irl, if it was illegal to do this, then we'd live in the universe where we took the gta controversy 20 or so years ago seriously. If you're not into weird experiences like these, chances are u wont search for them at all, so just let ppl make whatever fucked up game they want, u stay in ur corner, and they stay on theirs. I love how everyone called Adam, the creator, a psychopath for making the villain in the climax of WTTG2 his self-insert. Understandable though, underwhelming (albeit, realistic) ending, though is fun since it actually shows you that the cult Noir plays with their victims rather than tells you. I find actions to be more important and telling. Additionally, I love how the fact we know Adam is a self-insert implies that the mention of other "games" during the monologue basically says all of the creators, Adam's, games are actually within the world of WTTG and thus it's just one big series. Very good story telling that I love. Inspires me to see his other games and connect them all together with that evidence to see the whole story! I would like to end this with that I understand people got mad at the ending sense they took hours out of their days to see the ending just for the journalist to loss all their evidence/die. Frustrating. However, does make a good set up for a third game. Imagine... the journalist starts going off the radar and essentially becomes Batman to end the cult Noir.
