I Got Touched at the Cinema
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 ม.ค. 2023
Hi, I'm Ben Sherlock and I got touched at the cinema - not by a clown or a minister, but by the magic of film. Come along on a journey with me and I'll see if I can touch you too. New videos released every Friday.
Everything I Watched in July 2024
Happy anniversary, everyone! I've officially been doing these Everything I Watched videos for a full year. There were some huge disappointments this month, like Chris Pine's Poolman and the Netflix horror film Baghead, but there were just as many pleasant surprises, like Weird: The Al Yankovic Story and my eye-opening rewatch of Jersey Girl.

I give Deadpool & Wolverine two thumbs up: one thumb up Deadpool's arsehole and one thumb up... well, you get the idea, I'm being vulgar like Deadpool. Point is, this is an awesome fucking movie. A Dummy's Guide to The Godfather

In this Dummy's Guide, we're looking at Francis Ford Coppola's seminal gangster epic The Godfather. It's a brilliantly complex film exploring deeply humanistic themes, but let's see if we can simplify it. Every Kevin Smith Movie Ranked
มุมมอง 234หลายเดือนก่อน
Kevin Smith is like the Marmite of filmmakers: people either really love his movies or really hate them. I happen to be one of the ones who really love his movies. I've been a diehard Kevin Smith fan ever since watching Clerks at an impressionable young age. Obviously, not all of Smith's subsequent films ended up being as great as Clerks, and there have been some ups and downs over the years, s...
Two and a Half Men and the Weirdest Finale in TV History
มุมมอง 909หลายเดือนก่อน
Two and a Half Men has been one of my favourite shows since I was Jake's age and the crude double entendres went over my head just as they went over his. But when the series finally limped to the finish line after 12 years, I couldn't believe how lazy, insulting, and frankly bizarre the finale was. Inside Out 2 Review: Pixar's Back, Baby!
มุมมอง 533หลายเดือนก่อน
I have nothing but positive things to say about Inside Out 2. Based on Pixar's recent track record, I was expecting Inside Out 2 to end up something like Incredibles 2 or Toy Story 4. That is to say, really, really good, but not quite great, and certainly not as transcendently, mind-blowingly amazing as the movies that came before them. But I was pleasantly surprised, because Inside Out 2 IS tr...
Edgar Wright's Best Needle-Drops
มุมมอง 1.3Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Very few directors prioritise their soundtracks as much as Edgar Wright, and very few directors make song choices as memorable as Edgar Wright. From a Queen song underscoring zombie-slaying action in Shaun of the Dead to a Cilla Black song setting the mood for the '60s setting of Last Night in Soho, Wright's films are full of notable needle-drops. The Larry Sanders Show: The Forgotten Masterpiece That Reshaped TV Comedy
มุมมอง 2562 หลายเดือนก่อน
Any list of the greatest TV comedies ever made is bound to include mentions of shows like The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Arrested Development, and rightly so. But the single-camera shooting style, sly self-awareness, and cringe-based comedic sensibility of all three of these iconic shows can be traced back to one key influence: The Larry Sanders Show. This sadly forgotten series marked a...

A Dummy's Guide to 2001: A Space Odyssey
I loved The Great Escaper, was my second favourite of last year. Enjoyed it even more at home, but that’s cos I didn’t have 10 minutes of the people in front of me discussing when the US joined WW2. I was surprised as it even made my partner cry, whereas I will cry at the drop of a hat (and from the distress of said hat being dropped) he’s just not a crier.
😂 this movie is hilarious. Ur an idiot. Lol
First one of these I’ve watched, found it really valuable, taken away a few recommendations for my watch list. But I have to ask the question.. HOW have you crammed all this into a single month?😂 unironically impressive
One of the only classic films that I've ever felt lived up to its reputation of a Masterpiece. I couldnt get into Part 2 and 3 was a bit of a mess and did not feel like a Godfather movie at all (helicopter hotel scene especially ffs!!)
I liked it more than I thought, defo the best DP film but that's not a high bar lol. The opening title sequence was brilliant, and the cameos were really fun but its all still hollow nostalgia bait. Elektra did not need to be there at all she was pointless unfortunately. I would have liked for them to finally do her right but that did sweet FA instead. No Way Home at least made an effort to incorporate the cameos into the story and close their arcs etc. But Channing Tatum was hilarious and glad he got his chance onscreen. And at the end of the day, Snipes was right. At this rate, there really will just be one Blade in the MCU and it doesnt seem like it will be Ali lmao.
loved this movie
Aaaa was so excited for this one!
Great Work!!
Fantastic Movie
Can't wait for July!
Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Keep it up!
Quality video sir 👏🏻
Great review of The Godfather
0 I don't know you pointed out that scene with the bond company stooge in the elevator and that was the beginning of Devo gut feeling. Which finally found its perfect use and you know the
An underrated vid about an underrated show!
Thank you!
One of my favorite films I know the soundtrack very well and you don't because you didn't mention my Mark Mothersbaugh at all
My deepest apologies to Mark, I love his scores (especially Rushmore), but I feel like in Life Aquatic his score is overshadowed by all the other music in the film
I loved it from the start. The one set in India and the recent one in France are the worst ones
I was also very disappointed by French Dispatch but I loved Darjeeling Limited!
Would have been funny if you snuck in a few Johnny English clips.
Johnny is so iconic he deserves his own edit
Well done.
Oh. Frasier’s back? Also, there are a lot of sitcoms where the laugh track fits (3rd Rock from the Sun, for instance) but a lot of them are why I hate the idea.
I don't mind a laugh track when the show is actually funny like Seinfeld or I'm Alan Partridge or 3rd Rock but when the show isn't actually funny like new Frasier or the later Big Bangs it feels forced and I find it really grating
@@igottouchedatthecinema Exactly.
What year is this?!
2016 I think, about 40 years too late for this kind of comedy
"why is gomora" was an improve. The guy is the real deal.
I didn't know he improvised that line! Like all the best improvs it's not just a random funny thing, it actually fits the character and the scene
All great. I would add "Where Do You Go To My Lovely?" in Hotel Chevalier.
I forgot about Hotel Chevalier! It added so much depth to Jason Schwartzman's story in Darjeeling Limited
"aline" in the french dispatch was very good too
Good call! I don't love French Dispatch on the whole but that was a great needle-drop
“i wonder if it remembers me” absolutely kills me everytime
Me too! It's such a tearjerker, Murray's delivery is beautiful
He's the goat! Period! 👏👏
Beautiful retrospective, I'm glad I got this in my recommended, thanks mate.
This movie is like a fully loaded potatoe chip, its sounds weird but its actually pretty damn good!
It is really a magic trick to make something this weird that's also really sweet and moving
Ruth - long lost member of "Mummas Kumquat"!
"We are not Mumma's Kumquat cuz I never agreed to us being Mumma's Kumquat!"
HOTD is quality, loving every second. Acolyte... not so much. Episode 4 was essentially a walking simulator ffs. Lake Mungo was overrated, but a decent shocking moment near the end. And I know what you mean with seeing old films in cinemas. I watched Elf on the big screen again this xmas and it was such a better experience at the cinema with kids all around laughing and enjoying it etc.
That's the thing about watching old films at the cinema! It's not just about seeing it on a bigger screen, it's seeing it with an audience who all love it as much as you do And I think The Acolyte had the same issue as the Obi-Wan series and most of the Marvel shows where it had a film's worth of story stretched out to a TV series so it has a lot of pacing problems and filler
@@igottouchedatthecinema exactly
Django is number 1 to me
He will never not be Saul Goodman
That really was the perfect pairing of actor and role
Criterion Collection selection. Gives positive effect..😮 overt irony??
* "I think you mis-judge the guy".
You should do a video on Still Game
Great movie history and music
Jeremy, we are NOT in the Euro.
I'm here to comment on this amazingly relatable title
Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie were a match made in heaven because they both love triggering people's anxiety
when the rock played in the game plan the kids movie about a foot player and his daughter he didnt know about, that was a real good movie for him and i havent seen him play a movie like that since. he really felt like the kids father and went from a didnt want a kid dad to i cant live without knowing his daughter is safe dad. it really showed his skills as an actor.
I really liked The Game Plan and I thought he was great in it! When I watched it as a little kid when it came out he had me tearing up
Jersey Girl is ranked too low, imo. George Carlin and the girl hold the movie together. The Reboot being higher is a travesty. Agree with the top 3. Thanks for making the list.
Based on this comment I actually went back and rewatched Jersey Girl for the first time since I was a teenager and I loved it! It's really sweet and heartfelt and Carlin is wonderful as the grandad! I agree I completely misjudged it, it's a better film than Reboot and most of Kev's most recent stuff
Nice video... personally I think Dogma is his best work... I love how high you placed Zack and Miri... I think everything staring Harley is his worst movie... Yoga Hosers and Reboot were just awful... Clerks 3 suffered from the fact that I know the heart attack story by heart from the million podcasts and late shows he talked about it on... and killing Dante, after killing Becky, after Randall shitting on him the whole movie for what a shitty friend he is... and then Kev ends the movie with Dante's ghost working with Randall for eternity ?? I mean the most likeable character of Clerks basically lived in hell and spends eternity not with his dead wife but his shitty friend... yeah... I am not hopeful for his next Jay and Bob movie... I will watch it... but its been a LONG time since I loved a Kev Smith flick... Still love the man tho...
Nice retrospective! My fav will always be Clerks too.
He set the bar way too high with Clerks
1. Pulp Fiction 2. Reservoir Dogs 3. Inglorious Basterds 4. Django Unchained 5. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood 6. Kill Bill 7. Jackie Brown 8. The Hateful Eight 9. Death Proof
1. Magnolia 2. Boogie Nights 3. Punch Drunk Love 4. There Will Be Blood 5. Phantom Thread 6. Licorice Pizza 7. The Master 8. Hard Eight 9. Inherent Vice
Dexter somehow messed up its finale TWICE ffs! lmao
It's like how Simon Kinberg fucked up Dark Phoenix Saga in X-Men The Last Stand and then when they did a Dark Phoenix redo they brought back Simon Kinberg and he fucked it up all over again
@@igottouchedatthecinema omg yh i totally forgot all about that giant turd mess lol
After rewatching, the chiropractor scene seems like a good parallel to how Asher is ignored and fucked over in the last episode of the show.
That's a really good catch! And it's also a perfect metaphor for Asher and Whitney forcing themselves on the community and ignoring what the community actually wants
@@igottouchedatthecinema Yes!! There’s so many parallels and foreshadowing in each episode especially because they knew how it was gonna end from the beginning lol
Very odd to see such a very young Owen Wilson and Matthew Gray Gubler here.
I never recognised Matthew Gray Gubler as the intern! Small world
Stopped watching a bit into the new guy coming so Thanks for showing me what happened !
You're very welcome! And congrats on dodging a bullet by not watching those last few seasons
Pixar’s back! = They’re making movies about white people again!
I laughed out loud when you said "He reminds me of Niles too...he reminds me of how much of a better actor DHP is." I haven't seen new Frasier. I'm a huge fan of the original, I can't get myself to watch this new.
It is hard to recommend the new one but it's not a complete abomination and it is a joy seeing Kelsey Grammer back in the role of Frasier so it might be worth checking out the first couple of episodes just for that
