    Hi, thanks for your Video :) Do you think that the Galen Leather magnetic 6 pen case could fit an Edison Collier fountain pens? The pen is quite big and I‘m not sure that O could fit it in one of those.

    I never thought to use the smooth size lol, I like it because I have to organize by color. I think the easiest thing would be a small Rolodex type desk tool, where you could easily pop the cards in and out and flip through them. I know I have one somewhere and if I find it, I will try it.

    I have made several purchases from Birmingham Ink and love their inks! Vibrant, quick drying, and a small business (2 people). They have limited special purchase sets, like buy three get two free, and their prices are very inexpensive. I am not affiliated with them, they do not sponsor me, I’m a customer who loves their fountain pen inks and highly recommend looking at them for your inks.

    • @fountainPENdulum
      @fountainPENdulum 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for sharing those details and your experience! I've really enjoyed their colours and hues of the inks! Of course, swatching is different than inking up a fountain pen and having the writing experience of how the ink actually behaves, so this input is very helpful! Thank you! It's always great to support small businesses that provide excellent products!

    I just found your video and you discussed the issue that I’m having. I recently received a Pilot Custom 743 with soft fine medium nib. I inked it with Ferris Wheel Press periwinkle. I love the combo and it writes smoothly and beautifully in some notebooks and I have noticed the skipping occurring in other notebooks. It never occurred to me that I might be dragging lotion or oils down the page. I would 100% say that the skipping is worse as I go down the page. What a great tip to try! I will try it tonight! Thank you for sharing that tip! 😊

    • @fountainPENdulum
      @fountainPENdulum 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you! I'm really so glad to know this was helpful with your skipping situation! I recall when I first experienced this, I was very bewildered about what happened, and it took quite some time to find out what the issue was! It's surprising what a difference the paper makes too, textured papers present less of an issue as they can 'absorb' some oils or whatnot but more heavily coating papers become very slick and result in a skipping experience much more readily. Consider checking out my video on Pencil Boards next! Congrats on your Pilot Custom 743. That's a fantastic pen, and the Ferris Wheel Press Periwinkle is a beautiful Ink! Hope everything goes smoothly, and perhaps you will also begin to explore what paper fits your preferences best!

      @@fountainPENdulumThank you for the response. Now I’ve noticed that I will write in the left side page and then go to write on the right and I will get skipping because my hand has touched that page. I’ve been using mostly Tomoe River paper and you are exactly right about the coating on the paper. I’m going to try some other FP friendly paper soon. I love having the ink pool on the page to bring out its properties so we will see what paper works best. It is fun experimenting! I will keep an eye on your content too. Thanks again!

    • @fountainPENdulum
      @fountainPENdulum 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, Tomoe River Paper does give effect display of ink's colour and properties! Either washing your hands first or using a pencil board or another piece of paper under your hand will work well to avoid this skipping issue. Also, interestingly enough, there are calligraphy gloves or media gloves that you wear your writing hand to keep your hand from making contact with your page! I've tried it, and it's actually quite nice. ( Parblo Drawing Glove a.co/d/di6ptki ) But so far, my favorite has been the Hobonichi Pencil Boards. They have nice designs and come in different sizes. I fill all my con40s that way and move on to refilling the empty cartridges. I pull the con40 to check the ink often and never had a mess. I have so many pilots Im not sure I need a VP but it seems like a great home for carbon black. How has the matte lasted I hear the clicker will wear. I had a demonstrator with Dark Blue nib on a navalur and needed to spread the tines I think more manufacturer issue vs coating. I was afraid of the copper shims removing the finish. It was not an issue and didnt take long to get to flow. Sailor Says that the imperial black nibs need to use sailor ink only due to the coating. I clean my con40s the same and it really has lead me to just us empty cartridges as they clean super easy vs the metal rings in the con40 and my OCD.

    • @fountainPENdulum
      @fountainPENdulum 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nice! I've had this matte VP since early 2022, and so far, the finish has held up well. comfy vary with when the pen was made, perhaps they have made improvements to the finish and storage and use. When not in use, my VP is stored in a Rickshaw sleeve. Good call on the brass shims, I would have worried about that, too. If I recall correctly, I successfully used them on my black coated VP nib to increase the ink flow and had that same concern but used carefully it wasn't a problem. I agree that switching to the cartridge refill process makes good sense! The only thing I still prefer about the converter is that because I syringe fill, I can use the piston of the converter to prime the feed. I expect that if you fill the cartridge and keep the nib directed down, eventually, the feed will get saturated with ink by gravity. Even still, the cartridge would be wayyyy easier to clean than the Con-40. It takes quite a bit of time to clean even though I use a syringe to blast out all the remaining bits of ink that like to stay behind.

    • @HADESPAYLOAD
      @HADESPAYLOAD 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ cartridge also holds more ink vs cone- and in the E95s you can check the ink vs the concerted you only see the rod area. Matte colors look really good on fountain pens and to me stealth a bit in the office.

    I've unfortunately been disappointed by many of my purchases in this hobby. Rarely does the quality ever seem to equal the price. I haven't tried every brand out there of course, but the ones where I didn't feel like I got ripped off were Pilot, Platinum, and Graf Von Faber Castel. It's a huge part why I've been so hesitant to consider Visconti, because I've had bad experiences from many brands that even have good reputations. I suppose the enjoyment of the hobby and the search of excellence in a fountain pen keeps me going. I've had bad experiences with new and second-hand pen purchases, more expensive and economical ranges. I find poor quality control in expensive pens purchased brand new the most frustrating and unpardonble. Being able to purchase in person helps a lot, but it still doesn't remove all the variables of quality that can go wrong.

    I love to cook and bake, and have my mother’s recipe card file boxes. You can probably still get them (I found a large one - 5x7 cards - at a thrift store recently) and use the thicker paper cut on the cutter and organize them into one of those boxes. If you can’t find tabbed cards that would fit, you could buy tabs or make them from stickers to organize them the way you wanted. Additionally, you could get a regular index card and glue down a square of the paper of your choice on it, or tape strips of different kinds of paper (Midori strip, TRP strip, Rhodia strip) or similar. That would be easy to do with minimal expense, and it would be self contained. It may even be possible to use both sides of the card, one for the swatch and the other for a writing sample if you wanted. I’ve really liked seeing swatches with a good sized writing sample in the size nibs the person tends to regularly use. Diamine Celadon Cat is a color I want to run out and buy 20 bottles of…but I can’t tell if I’m going to be able to read it if I want to use an EF or F nib. Or, some of the cool shimmering inks…how overpowering is the shimmer in different sizes? I’m not a fan of sheening, so will I even really see it in a color I love (the base) with a drier or smaller nib. I think it’s important for people to do what feels right for them, and these were a great set of ideas. Also, there are a lot of A6-ish sized 6 ring binders everywhere in the US and on Amazon that might be a better size for a binder for making individual sheets (cut a stack of your favorite A5 paper sold as loose leaf (cheaper!) in half and you have A6…the hole punches are also dirt cheap, unlike the Japanese hole punchers for the Japanese binders. P.S., thrift stores will be full of things like old photo albums where you slid the photos into plastic, old Rolodexes, old recipe card boxes, so those can be great places to find inexpensive and repurposed solutions. Thanks for the video, lots of great ideas!

    • @fountainPENdulum
      @fountainPENdulum หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas on swatching and organizational methods! It's really fulfilling to be able to successfully repurpose something to suit what you're trying to accomplish! As to ink, with the Celadon Cat, I often start by looking up the ink online. There are often many good resources with ink swatches or writing samples that can help answer my question of, how will this look with a fine nib? I use fine and extra fine most frequently myself, so I understand the valid concern. Next, I really enjoy sampling inks. It really opens up the horizon of ink experience to try many inks and find great fits and true favorites. Especially if you hesitate to buy full bottles of ink, which I know I do. Concerning shimmer inks, it really depends on multiple factors. Some shimmer inks truly have more shimmer than others. Other factors are whether the ink thoroughly moved to get all the shimmer into suspension before using it (purposefully or not). For instance, sometimes I will not agitate the bottle and skim the top when I want to enjoy the ink colour without the shimmer in a fountain pen. If shimmer ink is filled in a fountain pen, you also want to keep the reservoir of ink moving a bit to keep the shimmer in suspension and keep the shimmer distributed. Shimmer inks are also higher maintenance as fountain pen nibs and feeds can more easily get clogged. As to sheening inks, it depends on how broad the nib and how wet. So, on even a fine nib that is wet, you'll see a generous amount of sheen, and the base colour may be faint. On wet Broad nibs you'll most likely see mostly sheen. On finer dryer nibs, you have a better chance of seeing the base colour, as you mention. Sheen varies quite a bit between inks also. For some, it only appears on swatches and hardly ever in writing samples.

    Thanks a ton for this video, maybe this will help--I found that tapping the nib on the edge of the bottle a few times knocks the heavy blob of ink and mitigates the initial ink dump but doesn't really decrease the amount of lines you can write on one dip. It seems to vary how well it works depending on ink though, ymmv but hope it'll help.
