Meet Bastian
มุมมอง 2052 ปีที่แล้ว
Bastian is a purple pincher that I adopted on July 2, 2022. He came to me from living in not-so-great conditions and as a result dropped his big claw sometime before coming under my care. I will be posting his journey as well as my other crab's journey here.
Enticing your crabs to change shells
มุมมอง 1022 ปีที่แล้ว
You may be like me and have a stubborn crab who has yet to change from its painted shells. We have one that we got in April and one of the ones I just adopted on the 1st of June is also in a painted shell. While we can not make them change and despite it not being a safe shell the only thing we can do as keepers is to make sure they have an abundance of shells to choose from in various sizes (c...

Welcome to The Yarnie Hermit
มุมมอง 2082 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello hermie friends, I am so glad you found me. I started this channel because although I constantly have knitting needles in my hands I am wanting to share stories of our hermie adventures. Although it has been over 30 years since I kept hermit crabs we decided as a family to get back into the "Hermit Life" and share that adventure with you all. I have posted my tank in several hermie Faceboo...
❤😊🦀🐚
Fantastic setup and great video. I'm struggling with the two pools and how to do it. Not sure I wanna go the filter option.
How do you keep your shelves up?The soap dish with suction cups never seems to work for me.
What kind of salt did you use to cure the oak. I have lots of oak.
You have done such a great job, and l am going to use a bunch of the ideas. Thank you.
How did you attach the egg crate around the top of your tank?
THIS IS ART!!!! Sorry instantly thought about SpongeBob
How does your trees not get mold?
Just wanted to say thank you! And just how much I appreciate this video. I'm currently building a background for my crabs and this gives me a lot of inspiration. You should be proud of yourself. This is incredible
Your tank is gorgeous 😍 Just got my first Halloween 🎃 moon 🌙 crab 🦀 today 🎉 Great set up gave me some ideas 💡
They talk with there arenas
Our robot vaccume is named Robie as in like a robot but instead the ie at the end. My kids named him. I love that you showed this I'm redoing mine right now.
Looks awesome! How do you connect the egg crate to the tank?
Thank you so much! I am having trouble with condensation pretty bad right now, this helped a lot!
So cute!!
NIce crabitat. Just curious, how would a flood occur?
hi! please make sure your tank has at least 6 inches of substrate to allow for proper molting
That tank did not have 6 inches because it was an iso/PPDS tank… Sebastian came to me from living in a tank for over a year without heat, sand or humidity. He also had lost a main claw. If he was in a permanent tank at that time he would have died. His previous owners also only feed him pellet food. If you look at my last community post you will see that tank be moved into after I saw he was eating consistently and strong enough to molt. It stays at 80/80 and has 13-14 inches of substrate. It’s a 45 gallon base with a 25 gallon topper. Trust me… this channel is about proper husbandry. 😉
he's so cute! I run a hermit crab rescue in Minnesota so its great to see people advocating for these guys!
You do!! I'm in Minnesota what part do you run it from if you don't mind me asking?!? I have two hermies for the last 3 years and I'm upgrading their tank and a new topper right now. they both just molted. They take turns molting, I'm glad so I always have one around while I constantly check and hope they come up. One of my crags molts for two months! Seems like forever!!
I love this setup. where did you buy your giant tree trunk/branch in the middle of your tank?
The hollow cork round or the big branch that spans the tank? Check out the community tab for an updated photo. The tank actually got larger about 4 weeks after that video was made… I really need to make a new video
I love ur crab tank 💕
Omg this is amazing. I am inspired. Also shout out Frank the robot 😂. Anyways this is gorgeous thanks for sharing this
Your tanks are amazing!!!! I found your 2nd channel from your Webpage! I love hermit crabs, we would see them on the white sandy beaches of Pensacola Beach, FL! Sure do miss seeing them out in the wild, so I'll come here to get my fix. 💜
Beautiful tank!! Can you tell me more about how you blocked off your pools please?
I promise an updated video is coming. :)
This tank is a dream
thank you
Hi your tank is awesome! I’m in the process of getting parts to make a crabitat. What little tanks did you use from Amazon? I’m looking at two Oltraman 1.6 gallon tanks from Amazon. They can also be used for aquaponics. What are your thoughts on these? Hope your adoption goes through smoothly.
My 1 gallon are from petco, but I also got aquarium glue and made sure they were water tight
Incredible 🎉🎉🎉 this is my goal
thank you
Where did you get those pod vines??? Great video!!!!
walmart, floral department
This tank is GORGEOUS. I’m obsessed with the tree
thank you This is an old video, it has had a topper for a month and even looks better. ;)
Lovely tank and great video! 👍🏻😁
thank you, I am planning on doing an updated video soon as it now has a topper!
@@theyarniehermit ooooo nice cant wait to see it!
So sad!!! But I’m happy he’s got a great mom to take good care of him now.
His first molt and he completely regrew that claw!
Glad to hear that@@theyarniehermit
Such a beautiful crabitat! I’m getting captive bred babies (two of them) next week and I’m so so excited. Thanks for the inspiration ❤️🦀🐚❤️
Thank you, it has actually changed and now has a topper! I need to do an updated video. Currently, my small crabs are all molting, but at least it is pretty to look at. lol
@@yarning4asmile yes! we would love to see their new topper😃
I will try to get one soon
Good luck!!

I LOVE shark week!!
Love this. I just got a 125 gallon and will definitely be using some of this as inspiration
Thank you for the tank love!
May I ask how exactly did you attach/hang the black egg crate along the top front? Thanks!
the black is zip tide to the back on the sides, and the middle piece I ran under the support beam and I zip tied to the support beam.
Absolutely beautiful!! Amd well thought out.
Thank you.
