GoPro: Taking Dezzie the Irish Draught and my novice husband Cross Country schooling at Downlands.
For our Five Year Wedding anniversary we decided to treat ourselves to an outing jumping! Very different to a normal year!
.
I don't know if Dezzie has ever been XC before but I do know Josh hasn't!
So it was great fun to school round and pick a few fun lines to try.
.
The ground at Downlands and the take off and landings were brilliant, highly recommend for how well maintained and made the jumps and schooling ground is - can't wait to go back!

From never riding a horse.. to achieving his goal of riding at the Farmers Meet!
มุมมอง 2Kปีที่แล้ว
Six Months spent learning to ride from having never done more than sit on a horse, to weekly hacking and then introducing jumping 4 weeks ago ... Me, Dezzie and Bob succeeded in teaching Josh how to ride and how to survive a hectic, chaotic, brilliant Farmers Meet. The Farmers Meet is where the land owners and farmers are invited to ride and leant horses once a year to see why they lend their p...
Exploring around Millyford Bridge in the New Forest with our horses
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
We decided to give my learner husband some practise loading up and travelling with horses before the Countryman's Meet, so we've downloaded an app called All Trails and been for an adventure exploring the New Forest at Millyford Bridge. We left the car park and took the route clockwise (which I think if it wasn't frosty in places would allow for more cantering) - I would really recommend the tr...
Teaching my husband on his Irish Draught How to Jump- Leg On!
มุมมอง 7Kปีที่แล้ว
Getting my novice husband ready to be able to do the Countryman's Meet, he's been learning to ride by riding his wonderful Irish Draught Dezzie once a week since April 2022 (apart from July, August and September where he was unable to ride at all due to work) it's exciting now we have started cantering and jumping, so we've found a circuit at home he can practice these new skills round. ft. Bob...
Taking my husband's horse out hunting for the first time.

17.2hh Irish Draught Dezzie hasn't been hunting in over a year, and I've never taken him myself.. let's hope he is as well behaved as he is at home!
Recap of the past 9 months teaching my novice husband how to ride a horse
มุมมอง 1.1Kปีที่แล้ว
Teaching my husband how to ride a horse on 17.2hh Irish Draught Dezzie, who came to live with us when he was in the last chance saloon as his last owner thought he was ready for his final trip. Forever grateful to Dezzie's grooms who alerted us when I was looking for a kind, steady, honest horse to teach Josh how to ride. It was definitely meant to be as over the months Dezzie has come out of h...
Taking my 6 year old son to his FIRST meet Christmas Eve on Bob the Cob, followed by Jumping.
มุมมอง 3.7Kปีที่แล้ว
My shy son Albert (6yo) being very brave and going on his first hack to the meet on my cob, Bob on Christmas Eve 2022. Then when Albie's had enough I got on and Bob enjoyed a half day following hounds and jumping rails as well as crossing on an underwater bridge in a lake.

Very Fun, Busy Day with very deep wet ground but beautiful sunshine.
Good video!
50 Shades of Grey LOL
Dreary English weather LOL
i cant help but watch this over again, firstly you have done fab at teaching your hubby to ride and how well you took care of him with so much patience. He did so well for his first time and his horse well hes deffo worth his weight in gold. This gave my partner food for thought as i keep saying id love a days hunting with him. you all need to be really proud😊
Thank you so much that's so kind, it still feels such a huge achievement even now! We love Dezzie so much he's deffo worth his (considerable!) weight in gold! X
Wow he’s so pretty! The handler handled that very well aswell!!
He didn't even flinch did he! Epic handling skills! 💥
Love this. What an amazing this to do together.
thank you lovely, can't quite believe that's how we spent our anniversary 🥰😯 xx
At 3:34...: Such an old unfashionable Reit Hut (right rider) we had in Germany 40 years ago. this old equipment from the horses dates back to the early 19th century. Hardly anyone has effective protection for the legs of horses. It's probably not tradition.
Ahh the issue with boots on horses out hunting is we tend to slog through mud and plough and doing that for a full day can lead to boots slipping or rubbing even if you get off and adjust them, which just isn't always practical. Some do wear boots, but it is the back of your mind that they could create more problems than they solve. 😊
I dont even know you and im sooo proud of him!! And what a unicorn dessie is!! Love this sooo much! Well done to all!! P.s deffo landed on his feet 😂
bloody brillaint i loved every minute ,, he just kept galloping of without you ,what a good horse to look after him when jumping hedges , and to stay on what a credit to you
That grey was a fantastic find.
He is truly WONDERFUL we are all so in love with him! 🦄
You’ve done a great job, teaching your husband to ride! He looks like a professional!
Ahh that's extraordinarily kind, he certainly is a diligent pupil and really tries to listen to all advice given.
What a fantastic video . Very pleasant to follow such a beautiful event , which does you all , great credit at this farmers meet. Have subscribed and looking forward to future updates.
Thank you so much for your comment, we had a fantastic day and it really was a credit to all involved that put it on!
You taught him well! Great achievement
Thank you so much, I was very proud of all the boys, Bob, Dezzie and of course Josh!
Fantastic video. Hubby & Dezzie are such a team. He really is a true schoolmaster.
Dezzie is the absolute dream, I'm so proud of him for looking after his human the best he can!
He looks like he's been riding for year. Congrats
That's really kind, he's a very good student and he always asks how to do better, so can't wait to see how they get on next year!
Dizzied and your cob, worth their weight in GOLD....... well done!
Sorry for the spelling error!
And they are of considerable Weight too 🤭🦄💕💰
What poise and what a seat after only six months of riding. It looks like so much fun!
It was lots of fun, and he did so well.. but I'm not sure my heart could take it every week! 🤭
Your husband is a brilliant rider, enjoyed following his journey! Dezzie can really move, speedy lad. Question, do you refer to your husband as boy is the videos? x
Ha- yes I do, I've always called him Boy it gets confusing you can see heading into the first jump of the day someone else thinks I'm talking to them 🫣😂
Brillant! That was so much fun
It was SO much fun, heart racing stuff!!
That’s amazing 😮
Very lucky with such fabulous horses 😍
what a recovery on that last hedge ! They did so well, ❤some tricky country for a first time, well done ! great to see 🎉
I genuinely can't believe how brave Josh was but he is very lucky to have a horse like Dezzie who he trusts implicitly 🦄 I am quite glad we finished on that last hedge though, my heart had had enough!
He did so well.
Im so proud of them both!
That looks like so much fun and he did very well for a new rider and jumper!
It was marvellous fun but absolute carnage at times!! So impressed he kept up and tried everything!! 🫣😂
Earlier today, I came across a photo of me riding a polo pony in Argentina today (taken 25 years ago) the very first thing I thought was 'that is a terrible posture in the saddle'. I haven't ridden since, but I used to ride a lot and I was definitely not 'sitting nice and tall'. Funny how after all these years I was still critiquing my own riding.
Sweat and perfekt Horse....💯👍❤️
Enjoyed the video
Your hacking 😍
Like horsey ASMR 😍 so relaxing listening to the clip clopping. What a beautiful place
It was really pretty, so nice to try different places! Love the sound of clip clop on tracks! 🦄
Watching from Australia and enjoying every bit! A lovely quiet horse! Sorry to see you nearly speared there😮 hope you continue to post? THANKYOU for the treat❤
I loved this ❤
Wonderful video. If I was still riding, I would definitely need to live near off-road riding like that.
It's certainly a beautiful place, not too far away either!
Just came across your channel and subscribed straight away your vids are amazing!!
I love the🤍🐎
We do too, he's a diamond 💎
Loved this video!
Thank you! 🤩 It's not the most dramatic but it's a lovely place, so pretty!
Your ponies are so cute. Love your vids.🙂🐎
Aw thank you very much, they are both wonderful boys 💞
I think you were trying to think of common sense and steering. Lol. Both horses are gorgeous.. bob would be my kind of horse.. a bit of oomph but calm. What app were you using in the woods.
Haha- Yes I was - I know I'm on a little horse, he should know he's on a big horse! I was using an App called "All Trails" and it was incredibly accurate. It even noted when we went slightly off the route to go through the braken at slippery points. Thank you, Bob's such a wonderful boy!
What a fantastic cob, I love cobs, especially the coloured ones,
He's a very special Pony, bloodhounds one day, babysitting in a basket saddle the next! 🦄
Go Josh!
Very smart coloured cob
He's super duper isn't he!
Another wonderful Irish Draught, so sensible and kind. Best breed ever🇨🇮
Yes they have the loveliest brains 🦄🇮🇪
Good horses.
Really enjoyable thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love your videos!
Thank you!
Beautiful horse! Just curious - what are the dogs after?
They follow a scent dragged that morning by someone running. It means we vaguely know where we are going but when conditions change from shade to sun or turf to mud etc it is really challenging to follow so we get pauses. It's a lot steadier than bloodhounding which I also enjoy but can really wind horses up because the hounds are physically chasing a fresh runner only twenty minutes ahead of them so they never pause.
@@childponysleeprepeat Very interesting! Thank you for responding.
Hounds
Such a good, sweet boy. He will take care of your husband, for sure. Loved watching this!
He's an absolute sweetheart, we are so lucky to have him
Very neat. You are well off having Bob the Cob and Dezzie as part of your family. Cheers...Freddie
Enjoyed the ride, looks like your husband does well over the fences. Good coaching...thanks for sharing.
Good to see hubby looking much more at ease, rather than rigid as at the start of his journey! He has a good teacher!!
Ah that's very kind, he is trying his best to learn and I'm trying my best to teach! It's amazing bravery to learn to ride as an adult I think!
Thanks so much for your footage, gave me some great memories, and much emotion,of many cross country rides with my best friend “Rudi” who saw me through so many highs and lows of life. What a privilege horse ownership is.Thanks again. Happy Hacking.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, it really is the most wonderful privilege, even just sitting behind Bobs ginger ears is an honour, let alone Dezzie being such a gent teaching Josh to ride! 💕
Brought back very fond memories of going out with Greenspring Valley cubbing and hunting with Howard County in Maryland. Dezzie reminded me that if I were to fall off there is plenty of time to get my feet under me coming from such a height as I got to ride a good number of draft crosses. Really enjoyed this, what a grand horse for anyone to ride. Take care and stay well. Cheers...Freddie
I loved reading this comment, it's mainly for the memories I am recording, so thank you for letting me know how treasured your days gone by are! And Dezzie absolutely is a grand old boy 🦄❤️
@@childponysleeprepeat I really enjoyed the video and look forward to watching others you have made. This is a 3 minute video of memories that I posted a while back, horses included. Captioning goes by very quickly which works well for speed readers, which I am not. th-cam.com/video/p_4_fS8f4Kk/w-d-xo.html Cheers...Freddie
Never get between an ID and his food 😆😆😆
Haha absolutely, though he's so sweet how he trundles in ready for brekkie 😇🦄
