greetings,,, I need your support to install my tesla p4 on the r630 servers...with this function! I am interested in being able to use it as a vgpu to build the nox emulator for games within the windwos vm! thank you
Have a look at my other videos on GPU pass-through as that might be more appropriate?
Hey! I get the error OVF Deployment failed. Is there any advices to solve that?
I would check the error on the VMware knowledge base (which has now moved to the Broadcom website), you may want to also search for articles on “lifecycle manager”
Wow this presentation is amazing! what sort of tool do you use for those animations?
Davinci resolve as the video editor and plugins from motionvfx , but you need a decent GPU
Mostly done with the mReview plugin for Davinci Resolve
@@jasonmeersM3 would do the job?
yes, I used a M1 studio on those videos
Hi, this was very useful THANKS! Question: Once the 'cold migrate' job is kicked off by the vCenter, is the vCenter in the path while data moves from host to host; each host having its own local storage? I ask this because I have an enviroment where I'm trying to do what you did here, but it's extremely slow. My vCenter is in a different country and both the source ESXi and destination ESXi hosts are much closer to each other physically. Could the remote vCenter (vCSA) be causing a bottleneck in the transfer or is it more likely a network bottleneck between the 2 ESXi hosts? My initial thought is that the vCSA merely sets up the job and the rest is between the 2 ESXi hosts. Your advice is much appreciated!
I’m not sure, but think it probably is in the middle as a host wouldn’t necessarily have access to another hosts local storage. You could test by enabling ssh on each host and then using winSCP to copy files directly between VMFS volumes and see if the performance differs???
Fantastic. Thank you so much for this video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Jason! thanks for your video, it explains linked mode well. Question for you, if you were designing a large vsphere estate with multiple geographical regions, each containing their own multi host clusters, would you go for a vCenter per site or 1 vcenter to manage them all, assuming the networking is in place to support that? MPLS or SD-WAN etc. ?
I would probably go for a vcenter per site unless it becomes too many to manage. You could also do a vcenter per region, just depends as each vcenter requires extra resources but provides better resilience. I only have experience with vSphere 7 and earlier (since I moved to Google) so don’t know if anything changed in v8
Short and precise, thanks!
Thank you. There’s a newer 20 min all-in-one video on GCVE too
I want to use GoXLR "Line Out" jack as my "Headphone" jack. How do I accomplish this? Reason: Amp on Headphone jack is dead.
You should be able to do this. If you can’t hear anything check the routing table in the GoXLR software
Thanks Jason, this is the best explanation on the topics and finally understood the concepts.🙌
Thank you
Very good
Thank you
Very clear, thanks for sharing Jason!
Thank you 👍
Oh man, thank you this is the first Video series of Grid K2 cards i finally understand very good explained!!! I have two question tho, is it possible to use this as a sort of gaming server? if i for example use the Grid K2 in the K260Q profile so i can host four VM´s for a bunch of friends to play on? and if so how much would i have to pay for using VMware? also can i use win10 Home as iso type or is win10 enterprise a must have? Thanks in advance.
Yes you can but you need a paid version of vcenter which can be quite expensive. It may be worth looking at the free XenServer first
Thank you, I'll try Xen first
Can Nvidia grid be used with containers instead of VMs? Having trouble finding much detail on this online.
You would set this up on the “container host” and provide shared gpu access to the containers. Most cloud providers have this functionality already built into their kubernetes solutions. I’ve never tried it on VMware or Tanzu. The key bit is if the container host can share the gpu with or without needing GRID (the containers don’t care how it’s done, they think they are seeing a full local gpu)
Thanks for your video. May i ask how you created that graphic? It looks like you can activate "layers" to hide the other elements like known from a powerpoint presentation...
It was created in Visio. I created the “final” and “last” page with every layer on, then duplicated it a few times and removed layers on each page to build it up as I moved through the pages. The multi-page Visio was then saved as a PDF and moved through one page at a time. The pdf and my video in the corner were combined in OBS
Jason, I have a T3600 Dell Precision and trying to install ESXi 7.0. Using UEFI I can install ESXi however, when I finish the install and reboot, it can't find the boot file and fails. I reviewed Dell's support articles and this issue is addressed but I could not find the solution. There is discussion around GPT and that if the drive has partitions already on it the boot will fail. From Dell "UEFI firmware attempts to load the boot image from the EFI system partition, which is FAT based, on the disk. Booting from the EFI system partition only works if the disk is laid out by using a GPT. If the boot disk has an MBR or MSDOS partition table, a UEFI boot fails. You cannot add a boot entry for MBR. If the disk is fully consumed by ESXi, it cannot be converted to GPT, and you must boot in legacy BIOS mode" Have you run into this in your lab and if so can you share your solution? Great channel by the way and has already helped me with setting up this older server
Hi, I no longer have the dell servers, but from memory I don’t think I ever used UEFI I always used legacy boot, and I always completely wiped the disks with DBAN (Dariks boot and nuke) first to remove everything (or just wiped first 5% on an SSD just to clear it without wearing it out)
I also used to use a SATA cdrom, as a USB cdrom didn’t always work (usb drivers missing in boot/install process I think)
I have a problem, saying the operation is not allowed in the current state when I choose a host
You could try restarting vCenter, or the vCenter agents. Maybe google how to view the hostd log files on the host to see the actual error if you’re comfortable with that.
Dude why are you using vSphere for this entire video when your title says vCenter?? Why would you click bait us like that?
This is using vCenter (VCSA) look in the top right where it says vCenter-20 and vCenter-30. The vCenter client is used by both vSphere and vCenter.
This is awesome
Thank you
Great video. I plan on watching this a few times to have in sink in.
Thank you. The concepts still apply, but NSX-T was released after this video was made so I would watch some of those afterwards too. Jason.
Awesome explanation Jason. Thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful!
Is there still a 3 server minimum
Hi Brandon, no you can spin up individual instances, or even shared core (20% of a core) instances. I’ve never heard of the 3 instance limitation. If you wanted to try it you can sign up for 300 USD of free credits on the main website. N1 also has smaller shared-core instances.
Hey Jason. I watched your video on GoXlr and the document that should have been in the box and, yeah JFC. thank you. I didn’t reply there only because this was a newer video and I have a question. I am struggling to get my Goxlr and other audio sources properly functioning. Would you be interested in a paid gig helping me get my stuff in order? I can send over a detailed description of what I have and there settings now. I am just at wits and and you seem to have a awesome grasp on input and outputs. If not that you anyway for putting out your videos.
If you can explain what you are trying to do I’ll see if I can help. Also check out EposVox as GoXLR is going end of life and dev team has been laid off so no more support going forward.
I'm not the best on the technical side but if I understand that correct the Optical connector can't output? I'm trying to find out if I can connect my optical speakers into these to play music. Can someone confirm if I understood that right, or am I in the wrong?
its an optical input designed for XBOX and Playstation, I dont think it can be used an an output (unless anybody else knows better?)
Can you share file presentation ? thank you
This is quite an old video now. The “new starters” or “everything on the truck” videos are more relevant

Absolutely so sweet of your to deliver one of the complicated topics so smoothly and easily. thanks, alot.
Thank you
Thanks for making these videos. I found them to be very informative. I just purchased a K2 on eBay, and even though not officially supported, I'm hoping to get it working on ESXi 6.7 on my home server. From my experience, drivers meant for earlier 6.x releases tend to work on 6.7 and I'm hoping that will be the case. What is the software you are using to manage the ESXi server? I'm only familiar with the web interface.
You need vCenter server to mange these. If you don’t already have vCenter Server a new install gets a 60day eval licence automatically. You could also have a look at my folding at home video for other methods like pass thru
@@jasonmeers Thanks for the info. I prefer to stick to the free license rather than the expiring trial license, so I'll try pass thru first.
Very Nice
Thank you
This is an exemplary showcase of how every software vendor should introduce their product stack. Great Job Jason!!!
Thank you very much
thanks for your videos and commenting on the questions I've asked

Mr. Meers is VMware Horizon able to run in the GCVE; I'm going to look into that?
I Think you may be able to, but expect you would need the UNIVERSAL licencing SKU on Horizon, and also the VDA or Remote Desktop server licences from MS
Glad to see you back Jason
Thank you, I changed job and moved to Google, but still involved with GCVE and VMware customers
@@jasonmeers please keep updating your content whether it is VMware or GCP product. I love your technical explanation style and you help me landed a job as a SE at VMware couple month ago. Thank you Jason
Thank you for sharing knowledge of the Tanzu platform, it will be great if you can share information regarding the policies and its configurations.🙏🙏
Hi, I no longer work at VMware, but if you search vmware or google with "policies" and "tanzu" or "tanzu mission control" you should get to some content
Are you still using the T3610 and are you looking to upgrade to vsphere 8?
I no longer use the T3610 for vSphere as I now work for Google, but I think there may be some feature(s) missing in the CPU for vSphere 8. It would definitely be worth checking the hardware compatability list first or trying to install the free version on a clean ssd and see if you get any errors or warnings
Nice video and very informative for GCP guys. Thanks Jason.
Thank you
For some reason I can't make your suggested routing for another audio interface work. I think my problem is, that when I chose the "music" option for spotify, and then route music into "broadcast" in the app, then picks "listen to", it simply doesn't play anything. It seems like the "music" option simply doesn't work for me. On top of that I also now have the "broadcast" option as an actual sound app I can make specific settings for. However trying to route through this gives me nothing either.
I’m not sure. For some problems I used vb-audio virtual cables. Might be worth a try.
Thanks for this video. I know nothing about this topic (and I still don't), but this video was so easy to follow through that now I have a much better idea. Great way of explaining the concepts, etc. Thank you very much.
Thank you
Thank you
You're welcome
Hi Sir, Can you pls give me the download link for the VCSA for Grid K1?
The VCSA is exactly the same one used in any VMware deployment. It is a "paid for" product available from the VMware website
Great Jason, can I make the same in Arabic ?
If you mean can you copy or recreate the video and transale to Arabic then yes you have my permission
Hello Sir, you mean, I have to upgrade to vCenter to be able to use this Grid K1 for VMs shared gpu?Correct?
Yes you need vcenter
But check it’s even visible as a PCI device
Also consider pass-thru on multiple cards as the K1 is very old now. May not be an option for you I realise. Pass-through does not require vcenter or a licence
@@jasonmeersI have 3 physical host esix server at home, R730 esix 6.5; R720xd Host 6.7 and the DL380P Gen 8, host esix 6.5. on R730 esix 6.5, I did the pass-through K1 to VM win10, It shown the Grid K1 driver on WIN 10, but cannot be used that GPU.Should I install the VCSA Appliance 6.7 for my host 6.5 at another physical server R720xd?
when you use "pass through" it passes through the entire GPU over the PCI bus directly to the Operating system. This means that you only need to install the standard "desktop" GPU driver, not the "GRID" driver and VCSA appliance. PCI passthrough does not require VCSA. The limitation of pass through is that the GPU can only be passed through to 1 VM at a time. e.g. To use the GPU on a second VM, it would have to be removed from the first VM. I hope that makes sense
Hi Jason, I am using Esix 6.5 U3 from Dell website, and downloaded the right driver GRID K1 for Esix 6.5. Unfortunately, got this message nvidia-smi has failed because it couldn't communicate with the nvidia driver, from the Putty once installed the vib successfully. Can you help me to fix it?
Is the bios setup correctly with the required changes. I no longer work at VMware so don’t have a VMware host anymore to test this. I double check the settings in vcenter and if you can actually see the PCI device. Also every power connector on the GPU needs to be connected or the card won’t show up
Hello Sir, I installed the correct driver for esix 6.5, successfully But not reboot the host yet, I got the message."because it could not communicate with the nvidia driver, make sure that the latest nvdia driver is installed and runnng.." when typed nvidia-smi.Should I reboot the host ?
